Aryan Paganism, Traditions and Art (APTA)

Rituals become powerful when everyone has a role to play.

At our last blót, we gave children a special task—tossing color-changing packets into the fire. It wasn’t just a fun moment—it made them part of something sacred.

We also handed out wood chips, inviting each person to carve or write a personal prayer or offering. These were then added to the flame, symbolizing their part in the rite.

It’s small touches like this that help build real connection—between people, the gods, and our living tradition.

The idea of a human (ex-turnip) and a talking bear mating is obviously a very odd one, but we have to keep in mind that most heroes have animal-related origins. Also vegetable and fruit related ones are common. Like being just found in a garden.

Druids came to baptise the boy into paganism, and they sang their pagan baptism over the little boy, and said, “there will not be born a boy more impious than this boy to the Connachta, and he will not be a night without the head of a Connachtman on his belt, and he will kill more than half of the Connachta.

The folklore dive I am starting today is dedicated to heroes and demigods born under odd circumstances, which is actually common when it comes to ancient heroes. The first example is Conall Cernach. This Irish hero’s origins are relatively mundane, at least when compared to those I will present later.

The art above and here is by Raphael Bagautdinov. He had a tragic life. Both parents killed by communists. Was seen as untrustworthy due to it. But that’s a story for another time.

I like his style a lot and think it fits folk horror tales he illustrated really well.

Those who consider atheism a product of modernity should study history, especially (but not exclusively) of Ancient Greece. Take the case of a 5th c. philosopher Diagoras of Melos. He was branded an atheist after saying that since iniquity and injustice exist Gods don’t. In other words, he judged the Gods like other philosophers did before and after him. But unlike most Diagoras went even further since on top of slanderous words he committed other crimes. Most notably Diagoras used an idol of Herakles as firewood telling the God to perform his 13th labour by cooking turnips. A reward was offered for killing Diagoras but he managed to escape.

There are several circumstances in which human beings might be ritually slain where it was not common, or even conceivable, to kill animals: the slaying or suicide of wives or concubines on their husbands' graves (suttee); the killing of slaves to accompany or serve their masters after death; and vengeance killing or execution carried out during funerals. Indeed there are many possible occasions for the ritual slaying of human victims, and it would be erroneous and misleading to group all forms of ritual killing of humans together under the term 'human sacrifice'.

Heroes are not always superhuman, sometimes they are seemingly the opposite born physically impaired like the diminutive Tom Thumb or Hans the hedgehog boy. In such cases the hero is often seen as cursed by the parents, but ends up being blessed possessing great wit and talent.

In the temple, an enormous statue, which exceeded any type of human body in size, left one stunned, with its four heads and equal number of necks, of which two seemed to look at the chest and another two at the back. And of the two located on the front as well as the two on the back, one seemed to be gazing to the right and the other to the left. They had close-shaved beards and very short hair, such that one could think that the maker had imitated the Rani’s style of doing their hair. In its right hand it held a horn decorated with several types of metal, that the priest who was an expert in their rites would fill each year with pure wine, in order to make predictions about the coming year’s harvest through the state of the liquor itself. On the left there was a bow in the arm turned towards the side.

The admiration for these things was further increased by a sword of an astonishing size, whose scabbard and hilt, in addition to excellent embossed decorations, were also covered in splendid silver.

On folk horror

I love horror. In literature more so than in movies, mostly due to the lack of good folk horror adaptations. And it’s clear why. Short stories shared at night under the glow of the moon while listening to the children of the night are mostly short and always have a local aspect. It’s something that happened in your own village back when grandpa was still young. Adapting this into a feature film is a lost cause.
Folk horror is immersive and relatable, especially compared to something like cosmic horror. After all, how many people have been in space? But most have visited old towns or villages with decrepit houses and complete lack of street lights. This is where horror was born and I hope more people will apperceive the folk roots of their favorite stories.

I've never liked christianity and christians, despised and hated their religious views. They are damn liars. No man can follow all the commandments listed in the Bible, not only because most christian just don’t know them, but also because they are impossible to follow, therefore a man who declares himself a christian automatically becomes a liar.

In a story from Aristodemus' Collection of Myths, an oracle proclaimed that a plague besetting Sparta would cease if a maiden of noble birth should be sacrificed each year. One year the lot fell to Helen, and she was led forth to be sacrificed. But an eagle swooped down, snatched away the sacrificial knife, carried it off to the cattle herds, and dropped it on a heifer; the heifer was substituted for the human victim, and henceforth they refrained from virgin killing.

Human sacrifices as a means of expiation were not unknown to the earliest Greek and Roman worship, and continued in certain cases (e.g. at the feast of the Lyman Zeus and of Jupiter Latiaris) until the imperial period; however, where they continued to exist, criminals who were in any case doomed to death were selected, and in many places opportunity was further given them for escape.
