this isn’t a new premise, it’s actually well established in pharmacogenomics. There are known gene–drug interactions where specific variants directly affect how a drug is metabolized or whether it triggers adverse reactions (like SJS with certain HLA variants). What I’m trying to explore is: can we simulate these variations before trials, instead of discovering them after real world harm.

Hey everyone 👋
Abhimanyu here
I’ve been working on a project called Anukriti that looks at something interesting from a science/biomedical angle:
👉 how the same drug can behave differently across populations due to genetic variation
For example, certain severe drug reactions (like SJS) are strongly linked to specific genetic markers that are common in some Asian populations but almost absent in others - meaning trials can completely miss these risks.
I’ve been trying to simulate this earlier, before clinical trials, using a mix of modeling + AI.
It recently made it into the Top 50 globally in the AWS 10,000 AIdeas competition
If this sounds interesting, would love your thoughts or questions. And if you do check it out, a like on the article would really help in the final round 🙏

Here there be monsters. 🕳️
Astronomers have long known that almost every large galaxy has a supermassive black hole at its centre. However, an international team, including University of Calgary assistant professor Matt Taylor, have uncovered something very unusual in the Virgo Cluster, a group of up to 2,000 galaxies.
Using the powerful James Webb Space Telescope the team examined a galaxy that hosts a “monster” black hole with a mass roughly 360 million times that of the Sun. What’s more surprising? It’s off centre.
This discovery gives astronomers new insight into how galaxies form and are torn apart.

Astronomers precisely date rare brown dwarf companion, offering new test for how these objects cool
Astronomers at the University of Hawaiʻi have precisely measured the age of a nearby sun-like star and its unusual companion, known as a brown dwarf, an object that falls between a planet and a star. The discovery offers new clues into how brown dwarfs grow and change over time.
Ideally yes, having genomic data gives the most accurate predictions.
But the idea here is to model population-level genetic distributions and simulate how drugs behave across those variations, even when individual-level genome data isn’t available.
So it’s more about risk estimation across groups rather than exact prediction for a single individual (at least in the current stage).

You said
"How the same drug can behave differently across populations due to genetic variation"
Was it already established that genetic variation is the cause of variation in behaviour.
Or rather have you worked on this premise?
Is there anyone pursuing your PhD abroad from India?

Theoretical models of supernova chemistry overhauled after X-ray data from Perseus Cluster reveal key discrepancies
The Perseus Cluster is a massive galaxy cluster located in the constellation Perseus. It is one of the largest structures in the observable universe, comprising more than a thousand galaxies—equivalent to roughly a thousand trillion times the mass of the sun. Hot gases within the cluster, known as the intracluster medium (ICM), emit powerful X-rays detectable by telescopes. These gases are produced by billions of supernova explosions, and their chemical composition reveals how typical supernovae have exploded throughout cosmic history.
