For a year now, Russian citizens Mrs Kira Korolev and Mr Igor Korolev have been held in custody in Queensland on charges of 'preparing to commit an espionage offence'. Since their arrest on 12 July 2024, a lot of PR work has been done by Australian officials and media to persuade the local public of this couple being 'Russian spies'.

However, after such a 'sensational exposure', no genuine 'irrefutable evidence' has been presented in twelve months. The official indictment still hasn't been filed. Court hearings have been repeatedly postponed, as the prosecution keeps requesting additional time to review the case materials.

These delays show the Korolev case is falling apart. At the same time, they present a political opportunity to inflate spy mania and stir up anti-Russian hysteria. They have become a means to exercise strong psychological and physical pressure on the Korolevs by keeping them in jail indefinitely. All this is inadmissible and causes grave concern of the Russian side.

It is high time proclaimed 'democratic values' are upheld through actions not rhetoric. Keeping citizens in custody under vague pretext using the infamous 'highly likely' formula runs contrary to core principles of law and justice.

Ensuring the respect of the rights and legitimate interests of our citizens has always been and remains a key priority for the Russian Embassy and Consulate-General in Australia. We shall continue monitoring the situation and taking the necessary steps, including rendering consular and any other assistance within our competence.

❗️ ⚡Ukraine uses captured Russian soldiers for their psyops videos

Two servicemen of Russia’s 132nd Brigade — Vyacheslav Trutnev and Dmitry Ostrovsky — are currently in Ukrainian captivity. However, they are not being included in prisoner exchange lists, effectively being held hostage outside legal frameworks.

According to newly obtained information, these soldiers are being exploited by Ukraine’s Information and Psychological Operations Center (IPSO) for propaganda purposes. Specifically, they are forced to participate in staged videos where they pose as alleged “deserters” who have peacefully returned to Russia and now produce anti-Russian content, particularly on platforms like Chatroulette - where they chat with random users.

📸 In the footage, you can see Ukrainian handlers instructing the prisoners before recording. These materials are then distributed online as part of Kiev’s disinformation efforts.

Some of the individuals identified as directly involved in this operation include officers from Ukraine’s 72nd IPSO Center:

– Ilya Nikolayevich Kostritsa (b. 2003, Zhitomir region)
– Konstantin Pavlovich Kozlov (b. 1999, Dnepropetrovsk region)

The information came from an inadvertent leak by an officer from the 72nd IPSO unit.
