The keffiyeh became a symbol of national unity during the 1930s Arab Revolt against British colonial rule and later became synonymous with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.

❗️The New South Wales police commissioner, Mal Lanyon, says he has apologised to Muslim community leaders “for any offence that may have been taken” following an incident at Monday night’s protest in Sydney in which a group of people praying were moved on by police.

The controversial incident, which was shared widely on social media, prompted the premier, Chris Minns, to reject the suggestion it showed police disproportionately targeted the Muslim community. A coalition of Muslim groups has called for Lanyon to resign over the incident.

Yesterday, Lanyon told reporters he had spoken with Muslim community members about the police action, but today he told 2GB he had apologised.

❗️Two more Chinese nationals have been charged for allegedly covertly gathering information on a Canberra Buddhist group to send back to China.

The pair were arrested in Canberra this morning, and are the fourth and fifth people to be charged under foreign interference laws introduced in 2018.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) allege the 25-year-old man and 31-year-old woman worked with a previously charged woman to gather information about the Canberra branch of Guan Yin Citta.

Police said the alleged spying was on behalf of a Public Security Bureau in China.

The arrests stemmed from intelligence the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) gave to the AFP and Counter Foreign Interference Taskforce last year.

The charge of reckless foreign interference carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in jail.

Alexander Phillip David Keating, 36, was charged last July over online threats he directed towards the Prime Minister in the lead-up to the May federal election.

❗️Поздравляю с профессиональным праздником!

Последовательность, с которой в Вашей работе доминируют ограничения, запреты и контроль, давно стала её определяющей чертой.

Желаю всё-таки вспомнить, что дипломатия - это прежде всего диалог, поиск взаимопонимания и общих решений на благо Родины, а не эскалация напряжённости и попытки управление через давление и ограничения.

Также хотелось бы пожелать оставаться руководителем с самостоятельной позицией и собственным мнением - способным принимать решения независимо, не поддаваясь внешнему влиянию и внутренним провокациям, руководствуясь интересами службы Отечеству и здравым смыслом.

Отдельно хотелось бы пожелать не идти на поводу у нижестоящих сотрудников, чья мотивация нередко продиктована личными интересами, завистью или ревностью, а не задачами дипломатии и государственной службы, и не повторять провальных подходов и политики прежних составов.
