Yeah he's still a bit dogmatic (what pope isn't {yes even John Paul was}), but he is really pushing the church towards humanitarianism from where it fell under Benedict and Francis.

At moshes, you can just get on the mats and see about playing with the other pups! Push a ball at someone and see if they push it back. If that sounds like too much to stay, find one of the volunteers, introduce yourself, and ask for information/help. Usually at least one of the volunteers is a handler. You could also see who around is handling and ask if they'd play with you/show you around.

The SF K9 Unit mosh starts in 5 minutes at the Eagle! It goes until 6. The puppies are nice! Get out there! 😁

the SF K9 unit runs a handler 101 panel, I think a couple times a year. We went to the one about a month ago and was super informative.

I'm sure if you ask folks at the PawCon panel questions, they'll be able to point you in the right direction

I've had good luck with the strategy of 'show up, find someone who looks friendly and isn't in the middle of a conversation, and say "hi I'm new here what should I know?"'. Can take a couple of tries to really click and it's a bit terrifying if you have any amount of social anxiety, but almost everyone in the community is very friendly and welcoming

How long are you in the Bay Area? Next big event I know of is PawCon next Fri-Sun in San Jose. Its actually a furry party con, but pups are definitely welcome and I've seen quite a few there. And there's an actual pup play panel and mosh on Saturday.

Check out the SF K9 unit and sf.dog sites for a list of other upcoming pup-related events (but not seeing anything for today).
