Mitts and masks might make parts 1 and 5 difficult, so we'll have to rely solely on Palm Orientation, Location, and Movement

As I recall, each ASL sign has 5 parameters:
1. Handshape
2. Palm Orientation
3. Location
4. Movement
5. Non-Manual Markers
Half true and half false, I just answered you I'm deaf pup ^^

There is a graphic for it but it's only for on all fours and mostly just conveys mood rather than action

this is a great idea, and tbh, I think I've seen a graphic somewhere sometime that had different ways pups could signal various things nonverbally.
But can't remember where I saw it or if its even widely accepted (and not just niche to one particular group/pack)
so true. So much of it is body language, which not everyone can read (or interprets the same way), and I imagine it's only harder when in full pup mode, with a different posture and with all the gear...
Really makes me think how better to communicate with others in a puppy mosh... Like, signaling for a hug/cuddles can be self explanatory (extend open arms/paws), but other things are much more complex
My hearing is going, and I'm asking for repeats more and more now. So I need to learn asl soon

idk if the slides were published anywhere and I don’t have notes, sadly

Asl is always a stable option if you know someone who can translate, but I think making a standardized UPSL (universal pup sign language) could be very useful to help with events and create accessibility for pups who may not be able to hear or speak.

I sure basic gestures and body language can say a lot.

is there a convention of established signs one could do with a paw to communicate simple things?
Like not full ASL, but something simple more pup play-specific (that works with wearing paw mitts)
thats a good start, but needs more signs for some basic communication needs.

hmm, I thought I saw one that also included some paw signals for basic things (using left or right paw, the direction in which you lift it and how, etc.) Was super simple, tho.
I really do support the idea of a simplified sign "language" derived from ASL but geared at pup play that is simple and easy enough to use in full gear, on all fours and with paw mitts on (so, no fingers/hands).

Oh no no my Deaf friend can speak and read lips. He wants to make real friends at furry conversation but thank you. ^^ I really appreciate that

Using ASL in pup spaces would definitely be more convenient than my current solution (carrying a small whiteboard and marker when in pup mode)

@GabrielGreenWolf if this friend is a pup and knows ASL, I know two friendly puppies who are learning ASL together and who would probably appreciate having someone to practice with. You can DM me if you're interested

I know when I am in my hood it is very difficult for me to hear speech and I tend to ignore people by default.

I do, however feel like a universal pup sign language is useful not only for those who might have hearing impairments or speech impairments, but also for those who don't want to talk when they're in pup space because it creates a non-verbal communication that you could do as a pup without breaking headspace

But I think these last couple comments show a big part of the problem, hearing people don’t fully understand the problem so would tend to avoid it

I feel like I saw a slide on this at the FC panel, hm

Even in full human conversation only a small percentage of communication is verbal

I wonder if they did squeekers in the paws? Like zarafas suit.

And I know this's easy for me to say as a hearing person who doesn't have much difficulty finding people to socialize with, but it's also true. If that group ignored him because he's deaf then he should ignore them back and look for a better group

Sometimes groups are cliquey, and they just don't want new people, so he might've misinterpreted their reason for ignoring him. But if they genuinely were ignoring him for being deaf, then fuck them, they wouldn't be good friends anyway
