Tambov Rebellion

In August 1920, the Tambov governorate became the stage for the largest peasant uprising against the new Soviet regime. The cause was the grain requisitions, confiscations, and repression that stripped the countryside of bread and any hope for the future. Led by former SR officer Alexander Antonov, the peasants united to defend their right to land, labor, and a life free from violence.

The rebellion involved tens of thousands of people and hundreds of villages. The communists' response was ruthless — punitive expeditions, mass arrests, and the execution of hostages. In the summer of 1921 came the ultimate act of repression: the use of chemical weapons against their own citizens, a grim precedent in the nation’s history.

The Tambov Rebellion is an evidence that Russian people — even poor peasants — stood against communism and fought the leftists themselves. 😎

The Human Rights Commission of the Argentine Congress received testimonies from victims of repression in Venezuela and relatives of Argentine gendarme Nahuel Gallo, missing for more than 250 days. They recounted cases of arbitrary detentions, torture, and political persecution, as well as demanding Gallo’s safe return and the release of political prisoners.

The session also included exiled leaders and relatives of imprisoned opposition members, who denounced serious human rights violations in the country, and Argentine deputies expressed support for the Venezuelan cause and called for greater international support in the face of the crisis.
