🇸🇩 🇸🇩 🇱🇾 The RSF have been expanding their control in north-western Sudan to secure their supply road coming from Libya.

South-Eastern Libya is under the control of Khaklifa Haftar local allies (reportedly Sobol al-Salam brigade).

This region is strategic because it's a strategic and historic crossroad. The main city is Kufrah, well known for the battle between Free France and Italy in 1941.

Today, Kufrah is a crucial hub, with a big airport, which is often upgraded.

This airport has seen a lot of activity, with hundreds of UAE linked planes landing to ressuply their allies in Sudan, the RSF.

A bit south of this base is a less known air base, the Matan As Sarra airbase.

It is currently being upgraded, mainly because Russia is using this base for their African logistics. This airbase is one of the most important (partly secretive) russian base abroad.

Between both airbases and southwards toward Chad, there is a dirt road.

For the last few months, important consutrction work has been ongoing. I found out the road nearly reached Matan As Sarra.

This road is not diretly related to Sudan, but there is a well known RSF base camp close to this road, inside Libyan territory.

Other dirt roads are as well going into the Triangle area of Sudan (border between Sudan, Libya and Egypt.

The RSF installed a checkpoint on the border with at least 3 military strongpoints, reinforced the defenses of the Triangle and protected the roads leading south.

Colombian mercenaries have also been seen, it is already proven they are working with the RSF.

78% of Southern farmers say they can’t afford all required fertilizer this year, the highest of any region.

The South is exposed for two reasons: crop mix and pre-booking behavior.

Just 19% of Southern producers pre-booked fertilizer ahead of the season, vs. 30% in the Northeast, 31% in the West, and 67% in the Midwest.

Cotton, rice, and peanut growers, largely concentrated in the South, barely locked anything in before fertilizer prices skyrocketed.

Only 13% of cotton growers and 9% of peanut growers pre-booked.

Those are also the most fertilizer-intensive crops on the board.

Rice runs $1,308/acre to produce, peanuts $1,166, and cotton $943 vs. $658 for soybeans and $396 for wheat.

U.S. farm sector losses have exceeded $50 billion across the past three crop years.

Nearly all (94%) farmers say their financial situation has worsened or stayed the same vs. last year.

Farms are getting squeezed.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces will begin supporting Project Freedom, May 4, to restore freedom of navigation for commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
The mission, directed by the President, will support merchant vessels seeking to freely transit through the essential international trade corridor. A quarter of the world’s oil trade at sea and significant volumes of fuel and fertilizer products are transported through the strait.
“Our support for this defensive mission is essential to regional security and the global economy as we also maintain the naval blockade,” said Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander.
Last week, the U.S. Department of State announced a new initiative, in partnership with the Department of War, to enhance coordination and information sharing among international partners in support of maritime security in the strait. The Maritime Freedom Construct aims to combine diplomatic action with military coordination, which will be critical during Project Freedom.
U.S. military support to Project Freedom will include guided-missile destroyers, over 100 land and sea-based aircraft, multi-domain unmanned platforms, and 15,000 service members.

✈️ 🇪🇺 🛢 As airlines ground planes and officials urge citizens to cut back on their commutes, Europe’s effort to prevent shortages caused by the Iran war is running into an unexpected hitch:

Europe doesn’t know how much fuel it has

The scramble comes as the war in Iran drives up Europe’s fossil fuel bill and threatens to choke off supplies moving through the Strait of Hormuz, a key artery for oil and gas. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Wednesday that the conflict is costing the EU nearly €500 million a day in higher energy costs, even as U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered his aides to prepare for a prolonged blockade of Iran that could further disrupt global energy markets.

“In Europe, we have visibility and commitments into May and June … what happens beyond is hard to forecast,” Tobias Meyer, chief executive of DHL Group, said during a press breakfast attended by POLITICO earlier this month. “There are strategic reserves, but there's not much visibility on how much has been drawn.”

At a high-level summit last month, ministers from Belgium, the Netherlands and Spain called attention to these knowledge gaps, urging the EU to coordinate more real-time monitoring and analysis, particularly around refined products, according to minutes seen by POLITICO. Greece's delegate went so far as to ask the Commission to set up a WhatsApp or Signal channel between member countries and the EU executive.

Tracking jet fuel stocks — held primarily in fixed-roof tanks — is “much more difficult,” Falakshahi said. Data on the fuel is drawn largely from voluntary disclosures by companies, and the lack of transparency is consistent with ongoing disagreements over how much fuel Europe has left.

At current Urals prices of ~$112 per barrel, that’s a potential loss of around $200M+, depending on the load level at the time of the strike.

A significant portion of the technological pipes burned down due to the oil product spill. The technological process at the station has been shut down for an indefinite period.

One tank (probably with a capacity of 20,000 m³) was partially burned, while three others were undamaged.

A rather successful operation by the Security Service of Ukraine: approximately 70% of the entire LPDS was burned down during two raids.
