Wisconsin has set a new all-time record for average diesel price at $5.620/gal, beating out 2022's record. Wisconsin joins Illinois and Michigan with a new diesel record.

Illinois average diesel price has just hit $6.000 per gallon, according to live-ticking GasBuddy data- for the first time ever- joining Michigan and becoming the second state to break the $6 price today.

Over the last week, gas prices rose in every single state, but no where were the hikes more severe than Great Lakes states like MI, IN, IL, OH and WI, which saw some stations raising prices over $1.25 per gallon.

🇺🇸⛽️ Doomsday for California as last barrel of oil from the Middle East arrives in Long Beach

California is about to face the most brutal test of the gas crisis yet as the final ship carrying oil from the Middle East arrived in the Golden State.

The last oil tanker to pass through the Strait of Hormuz since the Iran war kicked off docked at the Port of Long Beach with two million barrels for gasoline, diesel and jet fuel.

Despite the West Coast being heavily reliant on fossil fuels out of the Persian Gulf due to crippling eco-policies from Gavin Newsom, there are no more vessels currently en route.

Oil giants and experts tore into California’s Democratic leaders for letting the state become so exposed to supply problems out of the Middle East while crucifying any production at home.

It has seen the price of a gallon of fuel rocket to $6.1 for drivers up the West Coast — nearly $2 more than the national average — with some gas stations hitting up to $8.

California is now holding out hope that President Trump’s plan to have the US Navy escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz from Monday will bring some relief.

Hong Kong-flagged ship New Corolla, which loaded up on oil in Iraq on February 24 just days before war broke out, was spotted unloaded the vital black gold in Long Beach over the weekend.

It will now spend two weeks unloading at the Marathon Petroleum terminal before leaving California to figure out how to make up for the 200,000 barrels a day it got from the Middle East.

Last year, California refineries sourced around 30% of their foreign crude oil from the Persian Gulf, based on state data.

The Golden State is particularly vulnerable to war in the region as its status as an isolated energy island without gas pipelines has led it to increasingly rely on these imports.

📝 🛢 📈 Oil prices will rise to at least $140 per barrel by June if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened by July, and will not return to pre-Iran War levels before 2028 even in a best-case scenario, predicts Goldman Sachs. It warns of price surges and major economic impacts.

The Iran War is predicted by Goldman to permanently add at least $9 to the cost of a barrel of oil – equivalent to an extra 20 cents per gallon for gasoline in the US, or 5 cents/pence per litre for petrol in the EU and UK. This is forecast to persist for years.

Goldman warns that the full economic impact is likely underappreciated given refined product shortages, record inventory draws, and the potential for non-linear price responses. It notes a record gap between crude and fuel prices, highlighting the likely economic pain.

It forecasts a large amount of demand destruction, particularly in the regions most exposed – the Middle East, South Korea, Japan, and Africa – but warns that even sharper demand losses could be required if the shock persists, which would imply deeper economic damage.

Markets have not yet caught up with this reality. As Trafigura Group Chief Economist Saad Rahim, has said, "The scale seems to be something where the market can’t actually get its head around it, so there is the real disconnect between perception and reality right now."

Two carrier strike groups remain in the Middle East as President Trump announced ‘Project Freedom’ to get trapped ships out of the Persian Gulf.

The historic deployment of the Gerald R. Ford CSG appears to be winding down. The strike group – now deployed for a record-setting 315 days – transited the Suez Canal northbound on May 1 and has reportedly begun the journey back home to Norfolk. However, CENTCOM still has two CSGs under its command, led by USS Abraham Lincoln and USS George H.W. Bush, positioned in the Arabian Sea together for the first time since the conflict kicked off. The second carrier provides additional flexibility to enforce the blockade, support the Project Freedom mission to get commercial vessels out of the Persian Gulf, and, should combat operations resume, strike Iran with double the firepower.
