🇸🇩 More than 10 countries are now involved in the Sudanese Civil War, which has been raging since 2023.

Abdulmoniem Suleiman, the Sudanese investigative journalist and Editor-in-Chief of Sudan Peace Tracker, has written an article in the Washington Examiner about what countries are contributing what type of military aid to the warring parties in Sudan.

He notes that only the UAE’s involvement is being scrutinized by the international press, writing “if foreign intervention is indeed the problem, why has international condemnation evolved into a political campaign focused on the UAE, while the involvement of other states, providing documented military, financial, and logistical support, some of it openly before the eyes of the world, is largely ignored?”

Suleiman writes that recent British reports identify Egypt, Iran, Pakistan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia among the countries supporting the Sudanese army, alongside a broader regional network supporting the opposing side:

- Egypt hosts Turkish-made Akinci drones at East Oweinat Air Base inside Egyptian territory from where they support the Muslim Brotherhood-allied Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).

- Saudi Arabia has brokered and financed a $1.5 billion Pakistani arms package intended for SAF. Apart from weapons, Riyadh is also providing financial and political support for General Al-Burhan’s regime in Port Sudan and has strong links to Sudan’s Islamist movement.

- Pakistan provides SAF with all types of weapons, including drones.

- Iran supplies SAF with drones and the IRGC trains its Islamist militias.

- Turkey supplies SAF with drones and enhances its aerial capabilities.

- Russia maintains military, security, and economic networks inside Sudan.

- Qatar provides financial and political support,

while other actors have been accused of facilitating the movement of weapons, equipment, and fighters.

The U.S. recently imposed stage two sanctions on the regime in Sudan for using chemical weapons in 2024 and then refusing participate in investigations and take steps to stop it from happening again.

The regime in Port Sudan is making it clear that it’s refusing the ceasefire proposals by the international Sudan Quartet (the United States, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates) and their demands for a transition to civilian rule.

As the Sudanese Civil War continues, more and more Sudanese migrants are setting off for Europe, creating a risk of a new massive European migration crisis.

🇺🇦🌾 Ukraine Grain Exports to Slump After Russian Strikes on Odesa

Ukraine’s agricultural shipments could fall by more than half this season after Russian attacks disrupted Black Sea ports, threatening the country’s biggest source of export revenue.

The country may export about 29.6 million tons of agricultural products in the 2026-27 marketing year, down 54% from an earlier estimate of 64.4 million tons, according to Ukraine’s Agriculture Ministry. Wheat exports could plunge 53% to 8.3 million tons from a previous forecast.

Ukraine is one of the world’s biggest grain shippers, with the farm sector generating more than half of the country’s export revenue last year. Russian attacks on the port of Odesa, which usually handles about 90% of its grain shipments, are choking off those flows, while alternative routes via the Danube are limited by a drought that’s left water levels in the river at record lows.

The export bottleneck is creating pressure as the new harvest fills storage facilities and weighs on domestic prices. Ukraine’s roughly 59 million tons of grain storage capacity could be full by early November, with a deficit of about 11 million tons by the end of autumn.

President Vladimir Zelensky said Ukraine has approved subsidized loans for agricultural producers and plans further measures to increase storage capacity. Ukraine has also asked the European Commission for €220 million ($253 million) in grants to subsidize interest on loans to small and medium-sized farmers.

In a bid to develop alternative outlets, Kiev and Bucharest have agreed to expand shipments through Romania’s Constanța port, while Ukraine’s state railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia is looking for more transit routes.

Grain is already being redirected through Romania, Slovakia and Hungary, but those can’t come close to fully replacing Odessa’s export capacity.

The US Department of Agriculture also expects a significant decline in Ukraine’s grain shipments. The USDA’s official estimate for wheat exports is 14.5 million tons, but its Foreign Agricultural Service expects shipments of just 10.8 million tons. Its forecast for corn exports is 14 million tons, 39% below the official estimate.

🇪🇺 EU gas storage is refilling at one of its slowest paces in 15 years, and the numbers say the bloc has almost no chance of reaching its 90% target by November.

Storage across the EU stood at 58.1% full on August 5, according to Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) data - 15.6 percentage points below where the bloc would normally sit on that date, based on IntelliNews Lambda’s seasonal baseline built from 15 years of storage history.

The Fourier-curve model of the EU's seasonal storage cycle, fitted to 2011-2025 data with the crisis years of 2022 and 2023 stripped out, was recalculated this week, and broken out country by country for the first time rather than just for the EU as a whole. The model shows a continent splitting in two: some countries tracking close to a normal year, others falling far enough behind that catching up before winter looks next to impossible.

From a comfortable position, by February Lambda's modelling was already warning not only of problems, but that Germany was slipping into a gas crisis and that the EU would struggle to restock over summer - a forecast events have since borne out.

By March, the metrological problems were compounded by geopolitics. With EU storage already thin and tanks going into the restocking season with less gas than normal, Russian President Vladimir Putin put the knife in, suggesting cutting off supplies to Europe early in retaliation for Brussels' phase-out plan.

“If the EU plans to ban Russian gas imports entirely, why should we wait? Let’s cut the gas off ourselves,” said Putin, obviously enjoying the panic he was causing in Brussels. And this to and fro came just as  Operation Epic Fury was launched on February 28 taking the whole gas supply crisis up to to the next level. Within a month Qatar’s Ras Laffan LNG plant was bombed to a stand still taking a substantial amount of gas off the market for years. Nor did it look hard to refill Europe’s gas tanks, the EU was now looking at a  rerun of the 2022 energy crisis.

Europe ended up skewered on the horns of a contradiction. In Brussels the European Commission (EC) was adamant about a total ban on Russian gas imports due to come into effect on January 1, 2027, the first steps already phased in in April this year. In major European capitals, the governments were buying up every drop of Russian LNG they could get their hands on.

EU imports of Russian Arctic LNG from Novatek's Yamal plant hit a record high in the first four months of 2026, worth an estimated €3.88bn. In February Europe bought every single shipment of LNG produced by Russia's Yamal LNG plant.

🇺🇸 🇷🇺 🇺🇦 Earlier today, the U.S. Senate passed Senate Bill 5025, the “Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia Act of 2026”, by a margin of 86-11 sending the bill to the U.S. House of Representatives.

Key provisions include:
• Up to 500% tariffs on goods imported directly from Russia.
• Up to 100% tariffs on imports from the largest purchasers of Russian crude oil and natural gas, as well as countries determined to be facilitating Russian sanctions evasion.
• Expanded sanctions targeting Russian government officials, banks, energy companies, vessels involved in sanctions evasion, and entities supporting Russia's defense industrial base.
• New restrictions on investment in Russia, Russian energy exports, uranium imports, sovereign debt purchases, and access to international financial messaging systems.

If enacted, the legislation would represent one of the most comprehensive U.S. sanctions packages against Russia since the start of the war in Ukraine, while also increasing economic pressure on third countries that continue purchasing Russian energy.

🇨🇩 🇨🇩 🇷🇼 The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) announced an agreement with the Forces démocratiques de libération du Rwanda (FDLR) for the group to voluntarily disarm and demobilize.

The Congolese government is framing the plan as fulfilling its security obligations under the Washington Peace Accords (WPA) while simultaneously deepening collaboration, cooperation, and integration with the FDLR.

The political head of the FDLR’s largest faction outlined the group’s commitment to voluntarily disarm and demobilize its fighters and place them in cantonment sites in a May 30 letter to the Congolese president that became publicly available in late July.

The plan says that the FDLR would disarm, demobilize, and canton if there are “secure and viable sites with security guarantees.”

The plan also says that the FDLR will accept relocation for cantonment to a third country if it cannot return to Rwanda.

Rwandan officials rejected the plan and said that it was outside of the WPA framework.

🇷🇺⚔️🇺🇦 Ukraine loses more than half its Kiev-region warehouse space to Russian strikes

Russia has destroyed more than half of the Kiev region's pre-war warehouse capacity since its full-scale invasion began, after strikes overnight on August 5 hit 10 warehouse facilities totalling about 100,000 square metres, according to Ukrainian real estate analysts cited by Ukraine Business News.

The Kiev region's warehouse real estate market has now lost more than 1.2mn square metres, over half of its pre-war stock, with more than 400,000 square metres destroyed since the start of July alone. That is a sharp acceleration from the roughly 500,000 square metres destroyed across the whole of Ukraine over the preceding 12 months, as IntelliNews reported in July - the Kiev region alone has now roughly matched that nationwide total in a single month.

The attack is part of a wider Russian campaign against Ukraine's civilian logistics and retail infrastructure -  after  Operation Wildberries, Russia's own e-commerce warehouses came under reciprocal Ukrainian attack - and it is now large enough to move rental prices and squeeze the supply chains that keep Kiev shops and online retailers stocked.

Despite record construction activity, new development cannot keep pace with the scale of destruction, and there is now almost no vacant warehouse space left in the Kiev region, particularly large blocks of 10,000 square metres or more that retail chains and logistics operators depend on. The shortage is forcing companies to redesign supply chains, and analysts expect it to push warehouse rental rates up by 7-10%, raise transportation costs and eventually filter through to consumer prices.

The trend was already visible before this month: one of the region's largest hubs, the 100,200-square-metre Amtel logistics complex in Belogorodka, was almost completely destroyed in a July 19 missile strike that wiped out inventory belonging to Goodwine, WOG, Hilti and several other companies; its owners say rebuilding could take six to ten months.

The current campaign is not the first time Russia has targeted logistics. Leading courier company Nova Poshta’s warehouse was completely destroyed in October 2023, killing several workers. The company rebuilt the facility and continues to make deliveries of packages right up to the frontline.

🇪🇺🇹🇷🇷🇺 Europe demands Turkey certify its gas exports are not Russian in origin

European buyers are demanding that Turkey provide documentation proving natural gas transported through Turkish territory is not of Russian origin, Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said in an interview with A Haber TV on August 6.

Bayraktar said Turkey is legally obliged to process the supplies and provide EU buyers with certificates of origin, but that gas entering the Turkish system from different sources is mixed together in pipelines before it reaches Europe, making its nationality impossible to establish in practice - even though around 40% of Turkey's own gas supply still comes from Russia and Ankara has no plans to give those imports up.

Turkey has capacity to export 70-80bn cubic metres of gas a year via multiple routes, Bayraktar said, and pointed to the TurkStream pipeline's importance for Turkey's own domestic energy security. The pipeline is also the route by which several EU holdouts, including Hungary and Slovakia, still receive Russian gas despite the bloc's efforts to end Russian energy purchases.

The dispute lands as the EU presses ahead with sanctions regardless of the cost to its own supply. European Commission spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen said at a Brussels briefing on August 4 that the EU intends to ban all Russian energy from European markets and remains “well on the way to making this strategy come to a successful conclusion,” adding that a complete, permanent ban on Russian oil is also being pursued, notwithstanding continuing electricity and gas shortages inside the bloc.

Bayraktar said the EU's refusal to accept Russian gas had itself worsened Europe's energy situation. His comments came as EU storage sits at a record low for early August, and as gas operators warned in late July that the bloc will not accumulate the volumes it needs for winter given intensified competition for LNG cargoes from Asia and an unusually hot European summer.

📢 🇦🇹 ⚖️ Martin Sellner on X: In 2018, the Identitarian Movement was almost as strong as we are today.

Then they shut down all our social media accounts.

Then they closed all our bank accounts.

Then they carried out dozens of house raids and started a huge trial in Austria, destroying our entire infrastructure, accusing us of forming a "criminal organization." We were acquitted.

Then they launched another wave of house raids, claiming we had formed a terrorist organization. The investigation and house raids were ruled unlawful due to a lack of evidence.

Then they banned our symbol in Austria and the entire movement in France, without any prior conviction.

I have NEVER committed any criminal act, but like Dries van Langenhove, I am under constant lawfare attacks.

All of this has cost millions of euros and years of working time.

I have lost or been denied more than 125 bank accounts since then. I was blocked from entering Germany, Switzerland, the UK, Canada, and the USA. My car and my parents' car were burned down, likely by Antifa terrorists.

Why am I writing this? To show you that Europe is not simply dying. It is being murdered.

The natural and organic reaction to our ethnic replacement is suppressed through insane amounts of repression.

Our legal systems are oppressive engines that, from time to time, simply "mow the lawn" of patriotic infrastructure.

They don't care about legality. The trial is the punishment. At the same time, Antifa terrorists are let loose on you. Debanking drains your resources, and deplatforming kills your presence.

We don't live in a democracy. We live in an open-air death camp that is designed to replace us and destroy our ethnocultural continuity.

If we had no censorship, no Antifa terrorism, and no lawfare, organic resistance against migration and Islamization would already have formed.

Our movement would by now be a huge European network with offices in every major city. A patriotic civil society would counter the left, and remigration would be the norm everywhere.

The only reason why this is not the case is pure, brutal repression without any legal basis.

And since we are growing right now, the next repressive strike to "mow the lawn" will come soon.

Please remember: Europe's death is not just "happening." They are murdering us.

⚖️ 🇺🇸 🏛 In a 2-1 vote, the D.C. Circuit blocked President Trump's plan to build a new White House ballroom, ruling the administration likely cannot demolish the East Wing and begin above-ground construction without authorization from Congress.

The majority said Congress, not the President, controls major changes to the White House. It found no law authorizing the administration to demolish the East Wing and replace it with a privately funded ballroom, making the project likely unlawful unless Congress approves it.

Judge Rao dissented, arguing the injunction gives too little weight to the President's national security judgments. She said the courts should defer to the Executive on security needs at the White House and would have allowed construction to continue while the case proceeds.

🇰🇵 🌃 💡 Joe Weisenthal on X: It's boom times in Pyongyang.

GDP for the DPRK has kicked into a higher gear, and if there's any doubt, you can see that from space that it's getting brighter and brighter at night.

North Korea’s Kim Jong Un has more cash at his disposal than at any point during his 15 years in power.

His family-run dictatorship raked in as much as $22 billion in foreign revenue from 2022 to 2025, according to a Bloomberg Economics analysis of government trade figures and intelligence, as well as external research on key sources of income generation.

That historic haul is nearly quadruple the amount amassed in the previous four-year period, which came immediately after the US convinced China and Russia to sign off on United Nations sanctions aimed at depriving Kim of hard currency to advance his nuclear program. Since those restrictions were imposed, Kim has still managed to strengthen his nuclear deterrent, boost ties with key diplomatic partners and grow his sources of revenue.

Kim’s Jackpot
Foreign revenue soared after the war in Ukraine began in 2022

Kim has done it all while eschewing the billions of dollars in foreign aid that helped sustain his father and grandfather — the only other men to have ever ruled North Korea. Pyongyang’s skyline is being transformed by a construction spree, the capital’s once-empty streets are teeming with privately owned Chinese vehicles and Kim has been showing off more sophisticated weapons, including two modern warships.

“North Korea is in a stronger position than at any point in the last 35 years,” said Andrei Lankov, a specialist in Korean studies and director of consultancy Korea Risk Group. Cash from selling arms to Russia has been like “winning the lottery,” he added, while Chinese President Xi Jinping’s renewed support is equivalent to a reliable “pension.”

🇺🇦 Confidence in Vladimir Zelensky dips to all time lows

According to a new opinion poll by Socis who interviewed 2000 Ukrainians face-to-face, the Ukrainian president ranked 6th in a list of 9 political and military figures.

The most trusted Ukrainian politician is former Commander-in-Chief of the AFU, Valery Zaluzhny followed by the recently dismissed defense minister, Mikhail Fedorov, commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of Ukraine (USF), Robert "Madyar/Magyar" Brovdi, the recently appointed Commander-in-Chief of the AFU, Mikhail Drapaty, and lastly, the former head of the SBU, Kirill Budanov.

Socis also simulated presidential elections in Ukraine in which Zelensky would attempt to win a 2nd term. Although Zelensky would win the 1st round every time, when pitted against Zaluzhny, Fedorov and Budanov, he would always lose the 2nd no matter who his opponent was. The only two candidates Zelensky could defeat in a presidential run-off are former president, Petro Poroshenko and Azov Corps commander, Andrey Biletsky.

It was reported in the past that Zaluzhny was forced to resign from his position as Commander-in-Chief of the AFU because Zelensky was afraid he was becoming too popular and threatened his reelection.

🚫 🇨🇩 ⚒️ Congo bans copper and cobalt concentrates exports, official order says

The June 29 order, signed by Mines Minister Louis Kabamba Watum, Foreign Trade Minister Julien Paluku Kahongya and Economy Minister Daniel Mukoko Samba, says "the export of copper and cobalt concentrates is prohibited".

The ban takes effect immediately, although one-year export waivers may be granted under strategic circumstances, the order said, without explaining further.

Congo has imposed bans on copper and cobalt concentrate exports in 2013, 2019 and 2023, while granting waivers where domestic smelting capacity was insufficient.

Christian-Geraud Neema, a mining analyst at non-profit organisation the China-Global South Project, said the latest ban was unlikely to have a severe impact on most operators as the bulk of Congo's copper and cobalt is already refined domestically.

The ban was motivated by "the need to encourage mining operators to market or export commercial mineral products with high added value," the order said.

🛢 🇺🇸 🇸🇦 US refiners have shifted away from Saudi oil:

US imports of Saudi Arabian crude fell to zero in July, marking the first full month without imports since 1985, according to preliminary US government data.

This marks a sharp reversal from March, when US refiners were purchasing more than 800,000 barrels of Saudi crude oil per day.

This comes as US refiners sought alternative supplies after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and broader Iran War-related disruptions pushed Middle Eastern crude prices higher.

🇻🇪 As a result, Venezuela has emerged as the primary replacement, with US imports of its crude surging to ~600,000 barrels per day in July, up from just ~100,000 barrels per day at the start of the year.

Global oil trade flows are undergoing a historic shift.

No mention of attacking Iran or Iranian proxies in Iraq.

📝 The clauses of this defense agreement are secret so its impossible to know what constitutes an "attack" because the criteria will vary wildly from country to country. It is expected of Turkey and Pakistan to join the Saudis if the Houthis bomb oil refineries, but will the Saudis and Turks bomb the Taliban if and when border tensions flare up between Afghanistan and Pakistan? What about a resurgence of Pakistani-Indian border tensions over Kashmir? Most likely not. Will the Turks and Pakistanis bomb Iran if Iran resumes attacking energy infrastructure after new American/Israeli attacks? Most likely not.

This alliance was rushed by the KSA to reestablish deterrence from the Houthis who resorted to bombing ARAMCO's oil refineries for the Saudis bombing an airstrip.

🇺🇸🇯🇵🇪🇺 US euro sale to prop up yen blindsided European Central Bank

Washington’s sale of euros to boost the yen late last week blindsided the European Central Bank, with the US only informing its counterparts in Frankfurt after the historic currency intervention.

The ECB was made aware of the US’s move to sell euros to buy yen on Friday after the trade had been executed, according to several people familiar with the matter.

The lack of co-ordination highlights the unusual nature of the first joint Washington-Tokyo effort to boost the yen in almost 30 years. Typically, the US would have been expected to use dollars in such an operation.

Some senior ECB officials viewed the US’s decision to use euros in its trade as an unprecedented breach of longstanding conventions on co-operation between western monetary authorities, the people said.

📝 InvisibleFist: Selling dollars to defend the yen would have contradicted Bessent’s strong-dollar policy. Selling euros avoided that problem. But selling a European asset to defend an Asian currency to protect an American bond market, without consulting the institution whose asset was sold, is not a currency intervention. It is the reserve architecture consuming the alliance architecture.

The reason Washington intervened at all is the part nobody wants to say plainly. Japan is the largest foreign holder of US Treasuries. The yen was at its weakest since 1986. If the yen falls far enough, Japanese institutions sell their most liquid foreign asset to raise cash. That asset is Treasuries. The selling pushes American yields higher at the exact moment the thirty-year just touched 5.28 percent. Washington did not intervene to help Japan. Washington intervened to prevent the Treasury market from absorbing a forced seller at a nineteen-year high in yields.

The convention that was broken to execute this trade is the same kind of convention the reserve confiscation broke in 2022. That one taught central banks their dollar reserves were not safe from seizure. This one taught the ECB that dollar-system cooperation is not safe from unilateral action by its architect. Both lessons point the same direction: build the alternatives faster.

The fix is eating the architecture it was built to preserve.
