The aircraft carrier’s long deployment in the Iran war is raising concerns that the sailors and Marines on board are facing poor conditions, low supplies and fatigue.

Moldy showers. Food shortages. Sailors running out of toothpaste, deodorant and soap.

Families of the sailors and Marines aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln are sounding the alarm that their loved ones are so exhausted they fear it could lead to deadly mistakes, as the carrier enters its ninth month at sea and its fifth consecutive month of combat operations against Iran.

MS NOW spoke to a dozen family members who say they are extremely concerned with the morale, safety and conditions on the ship. They described a crew straining under the demands of an unexpectedly long deployment, as President Donald Trump continues to extend his military campaign against Iran with no clear end in sight.

The families told MS NOW there is no indication of when their loved ones are going to return home, as the routine seven-month deployment for the 5,000-plus crew members appears to have been extended for a second time.

Most sailors are working excruciatingly long shifts, and depending on their job, some are rarely getting a day off, family members told MS NOW. One father, who is a Navy veteran, said his son described seeing holes that have worn through the Lincoln’s flight deck.

The flight deck of an aircraft carrier is already one of the most dangerous places in the military. High-speed aircraft with powerful engines can burn sailors and blow them overboard. Spinning propellers can cause accidents. And the constant loading and unloading of bombs, missiles and rockets pose the risk of explosions and fires. 

It is a fast-moving, tightly packed, extremely loud environment that can lead to hearing loss from the relentless engine noise — and the work on deck is physically demanding and done in elements like wind, rain, heat and cold.

The crew of the Lincoln has had only two days off the aircraft carrier since it left its home port in San Diego in November. The ship had a short port call in Guam in December and then did not have another stop until July 7, when it briefly pulled into Oman after 208 continuous days at sea — a modern-day record for a Navy aircraft carrier.

In her new Foreign Affairs piece, Lori Wallach proposes a similar restructuring of the global trading regime, arguing that because our current trading system rewards countries that improve their manufacturing competitiveness by suppressing wage growth relative to productivity growth (and by ignoring environmental costs), it's no surprise that income inequality has risen across most countries over the past four decades.

Like a growing number of analysts, she argues that countries should be free to choose their own growth models, but they should not be able to externalize the associated costs via their trade and capital accounts.

Neither the neoliberal order nor Trump’s second-term pandemonium offers a way forward. But a new approach could yet capture the considerable benefits of trade—if the rules were designed explicitly to promote balanced trade, fair and competitive markets, and a floor of labor and environmental standards. It will not happen under the current administration. But the U.S. global trade deficit will outlast Trump’s presidency, and so will Washington’s leverage over countries reliant on access to the U.S. market. The next administration should use this leverage to build a fairer and more flexible trade paradigm, one that will unshackle countries and better enable them to address the most pressing economic, social, and climate challenges of the twenty-first century.

The cell says that anyone who does such actions in Iran will be rewarded between 1,000 to 2,000 US dollars, and they have a list of police officers in Iran they will target.

The government confirmed his death today.

🇮🇱 Exodus of Skilled High Earners from Israel Doubled Over Five Years: Report

Emigration among high-earning Israelis in tech and healthcare has almost doubled over the past five years, tax authority data shows. The accelerating brain drain of top-earning professionals threatens severe long-term tax revenue and structural economic risks.

Data compiled by the Israel Tax Authority’s Planning and Economics Division reveals that affluent individuals working in tech and healthcare account for a disproportionate share of recent departures.

Up until 2019, those leaving paid roughly NIS 500 million ($166 million) in annual income taxes prior to departure, a figure that surged to NIS 1.2 billion annually over the past two years.

The shift reflects a dramatic change in the economic profile of emigrants, whose pre-departure incomes once mirrored national averages but are now 50 percent higher.

“From all the indicators regarding Israelis recently leaving the country a consistent picture emerges: the pace of emigration among the strong and affluent strata of society increased, whereas among the weaker strata, the departure rate is almost unchanged,” said Dr. Ariel Greizaz and Nili Ben-Tovim, the authors of the study.

The outflow is particularly concentrated among prime-age workers in their 40s and 50s, a demographic that now represents 20 percent of adult emigrants, up from 13 percent a decade ago.

Because tech accounts for a fifth of gross domestic product and more than half of exports, losing skilled personnel directly undermines the country's economic backbone.

Parallel findings from Tel Aviv University show nearly 50,000 citizens have exited annually for three consecutive years through 2025, driven by ongoing military conflict and internal political instability.

Satellite images revealed that all three berths on the island had been "empty for an extended period of time" after operations on Kharg Island halted on July 31.

No tankers have loaded at Kharg Island, Iran’s main export terminal, for at least a week, recent shipping and satellite data show, suggesting that the renewed US naval blockade has brought Tehran’s crude oil sales to a halt, the Financial Times reported on Friday.

The US reimposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports in mid-July after an interim agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz collapsed.

Operations at Kharg Island, vital to Iran's oil industry, halted on July 31, according to Kpler and Energy Aspects, two intelligence providers for global energy, commodity, and shipping.

Satellite images revealed that all three berths on the island had been "empty for an extended period of time," maritime intelligence company Windward said.

On Tuesday, only 16 vessels were anchored in the waiting area around Kharg, added Windward, the lowest number since the beginning of last month.

🇺🇦🤝🇺🇸 Ukraine has promised to not attack infrastructure belonging to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) again

Ukraine has agreed not to target some non-Russian oil tankers and Black Sea infrastructure critical for exporting Kazakhstan’s crude, after strikes on vessels last month halted loadings, according to a US official.

Ukraine has set up points of contact to allow commercial shippers to communicate information and ensure safe passage, said the US official, who asked for anonymity to speak candidly about the private agreement.

The commitment, which follows a meeting between senior US government leaders and Ukrainian leadership, marks a potentially significant step in increasing oil flows in the region, after a spate of recent attacks on ships near the Caspian Pipeline Consortium terminal in Novorossiysk, Russia, chilled activity.

The CPC terminal is critical for getting Kazakhstan’s oil to market because the Central Asian country doesn’t have significant capacity to export barrels via alternative routes. The CPC normally handles about 2% of global crude supplies, and Europe’s refiners are heavily reliant on volumes from the region.

Higher costs for crude and fuel have rippled through the global economy and spurred climbing pump prices in the US before November midterm elections expected to hinge on voters’ economic concerns.

Under the agreement secured by the US, Ukraine has committed to refrain from targeting Caspian Pipeline Consortium infrastructure and non-Russian vessels bound for the terminal as long as those ships are not otherwise subject to Ukrainian sanctions and aren’t carrying Russian cargo, according to the US official.

Additionally, while shipments have since restarted, they’ve remained at lower-than-normal levels as a result of wider drone attacks near Novorossiysk. Russian authorities generally halt oil loadings when there are drone alerts at terminals.

An initial wave of drone strikes the week of July 20 prompted commercial vessels chartered by US companies to stop loading at the CPC terminal. Although they resumed July 27, commercial vessels loading at the terminal were struck by drones two days later.

The recent disruptions mean exports of CPC Blend are expected to fall by about a third this month, according to people familiar with the matter. There’s some uncertainty about those figures, however, as they don’t include cargoes from July that were delayed until August, while the recent stoppages could yet delay some August cargoes.

ExxonMobil and Chevron are the two biggest shareholders of the CPC and Ukraine attacking their facilities in Novorossiysk cut into their revenues, brought instability to the oil price which the Trump Admin has a hard enough time keeping it under control besides removing yet another source of oil needed especially on the European market on whom Ukraine itself relies on for gasoline and diesel.

🇿🇼 Zimbabwe eyes $1bn turnover from lithium sulphate exports amid beneficiation drive

Zimbabwe's lithium industry is expected to generate about $1bn in turnover this year as producers begin exporting lithium sulphate, with annual revenue projected to rise further as planned processing plants come on stream, Mining Zimbabwe reported on August 6.

The projections were outlined by Lithium Producers Association of Zimbabwe chairman Innocent Rukweza during the Beneficiation Symposium held alongside the Mine Entra 2026 exhibition in Bulawayo.

Zimbabwe, Africa's leading lithium producer, has progressively tightened restrictions on exports of unprocessed lithium as the government pushes miners towards greater domestic beneficiation and the conversion of concentrates into higher-value products such as lithium sulphate.

“In 2022, when we were just exporting ores, we were looking at a turnover of over $60mn,” Rukweza said.

“The moment the ban came in and we were dealing with concentrates; we've been averaging about $580mn between 2023 and 2025. This year, with the first parcel from Arcadia of lithium sulphate, we're expecting turnover to reach about $1bn.”

Rukweza has previously projected that annual lithium industry turnover could reach $3.2bn by 2030 as additional lithium sulphate plants enter production.

The forecast follows Zimbabwe's first commercial export of lithium sulphate from the Arcadia Lithium Mine, marking the country's entry into a higher-value segment of the battery minerals supply chain. Lithium sulphate is an intermediate product used in the manufacture of battery chemicals including lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide.

Arcadia is operated by Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe, which is owned by China's Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt (SSE:603799).

Zimbabwe's other major lithium operations include Sinomine Resource Group's (SZSE:002738) Bikita Minerals, Chengxin Lithium Group's (SZSE:002240) Sabi Star mine, Sichuan Yahua Industrial Group's (SZSE:002497) Kamativi project, the state-owned Sandawana mine and Tsingshan-backed Gwanda Lithium Mine.

Several producers are developing or studying lithium sulphate plants as the government pushes the industry further downstream, while Huayou's Arcadia operation is currently the only one producing and exporting lithium sulphate commercially.

Rukweza said about $3.4bn had been committed to completed and planned lithium projects, including concentrators and lithium sulphate plants.

He also said planned industry processing capacity was expected to reach about 385,000 tonnes a year by 2028 as additional beneficiation facilities are commissioned.

Zimbabwe has sought to capture more value from its lithium resources by restricting exports of raw ore and tightening controls on concentrate exports while encouraging producers to invest in domestic processing.

Rukweza urged the government to review the industry's tax regime and introduce fiscal incentives to ensure Zimbabwe remained competitive as producers committed capital to more advanced processing facilities.

The report says Caine believes all the escalatory options available to the US could backfire, and airpower alone is insufficient to defeat Iran. The report notes that Israel strongly advocated for escalation.

“Caine is looking for an off ramp,” one of the sources said bluntly.

“I think it is just his way of protecting the military,” one of the sources told CNN, referring to Caine’s discussions with other top national security officials within Trump’s cabinet about the Iran war.

Trump has consistently appeared averse to the idea of deploying ground troops in Iran, instead signaling he believes that air bombing can force them to agree to a deal on his terms. Caine and others in Trump’s cabinet privately view that outcome as unlikely and instead have sought to develop other options that fit within the president’s own parameters, according to multiple sources familiar with recent discussions.

🇮🇱❌🕊🇵🇸 Israeli ministers and security chiefs have discussed resuming attacks on Gaza to signal that Israel rejects the U.S.-backed 15-point phase 2 roadmap accepted by Hamas, according to the Times of Israel.

The debate occurred on Thursday night, August 6, during Israel’s political-security cabinet meeting. Another cabinet meeting is set for Sunday night.

It comes as Kan, Israel’s public broadcaster, reports that the U.S. is pressuring Israel to begin a 14-day ceasefire to move the roadmap forward. Friday marked the fourth consecutive day without any Palestinians deaths due to fresh Israeli strikes – the longest such stretch since the ceasefire was announced last October.

The Times of Israel, citing Israel Hayom, reported that Israel is also facing pressure to withdraw from its expanded control of roughly 70% of Gaza back to the original Yellow Line, which left it controlling 52%, and to halt targeted strikes.

Key details from the meeting on August 6:

🔹 Minister Ze’ev Elkin argued Israel must reject the U.S. plan and attack: “If Israel doesn’t carry out offensive action for two weeks, the meaning is that we have accepted and entered the process. That’s why we need to publish that we are not signing these 15 points.”

🔹 Brig. Gen. Ofir Mizrahi-Rozen, head of Israeli military intelligence research, said Hamas was attempting “to put the ball in our court,” while warning against foreign forces, including Turkish and Qatari troops, deploying near Israel under the plan.

🇩🇪 🇷🇺 🇺🇸 U.S. intelligence has reportedly linked the explosive-laden drone discovered at Germany's Leipzig/Halle Airport this week to the Russian government, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The drone was discovered Tuesday night inside a secure area of the airport, just meters from a Ukrainian Antonov cargo aircraft, carrying what German investigators reportedly determined was an explosive device with a defective detonator that failed to function. The discovery forced the airport to suspend operations overnight. Authorities are also investigating a second suspected drone that a DHL cargo aircraft reportedly struck after executing a go-around due to the airport closure, with the aircraft later landing safely despite damage to its nose.

The development comes one day after The Wall Street Journal reported that new U.S. intelligence assessments warn Vladimir Putin could test NATO's resolve through limited attacks ranging from sabotage and cyber operations to a small-scale incursion into alliance territory. Western officials have increasingly warned that Russia is conducting probing operations against NATO infrastructure, with previous incidents including drones entering Romanian airspace and Russian missiles landing in Poland.

🇺🇸🪖 - The US Military Is Preparing For A Draft

Last month, the Selective Service System (SSS) quietly posted a listing for contractors to help wargame a potential scenario where young Americans are mobilized against their will. The solicitation coincides with a new law set to go into effect this December that will automatically register all men aged 18 to 26 within US borders (including illegal aliens) into the SSS by utilizing a cross-section of unspecified federal databases.

These updates have taken on a new meaning in light of the ongoing Iran war, which has exposed the limitation of American air power and missile strike ability in accomplishing the goal of regime change. The wars in Ukraine and Iran have drained the US of difficult to replace defensive and offensive missiles while bases in the Persian Gulf are being obliterated by Iranian missile and drone attacks, leaving few options on the table for muscling the Strait of Hormuz out of Iranian hands outside of either diplomatic recognition of the new status quo (which is not an option for the Israelis or their lackeys in Washington) or escalation with ground troops that could interrupt Iranian oil shipments and clear out coastal defense systems so planes can use cheap and plentiful glide bombs. A third disquieting option, which is to deploy tactical nukes, also appears to be on the table.
