🇺🇸🔋 US Government Agrees To 10-Year Nuclear Power Plan

One the customers for nuclear power from existing facilities is the General Services Administration, the agency responsible for keeping the lights on in federal buildings. This week it committed to pay Constellation Energy more than $1 billion for electricity over the next ten years to power 13 federal agencies and implement energy efficiency measures in five GSA-owned facilities in the National Capital Region. Joe Dominguez, Constellation President and CEO revealed some crucial aspects of this deal.

“For many decades, Constellation’s nuclear fleet has provided carbon-free, reliable, American-made energy to millions of families and institutions. Frustratingly, however, nuclear energy was excluded from many corporate and government sustainable energy procurements. Not anymore. This agreement is another powerful example of how things have changed. Under this agreement, the United States government joins Microsoft and other entities to support continued investment in reliable nuclear energy that will allow Constellation to relicense and extend the lives of these critical assets. In combination with the Crane restart announced previously, Constellation and its partners will add approximately 1,100 MWs of 24/7 clean energy by 2028, enough energy to power over one million homes.”

Trump Privately Complains About Clingy Elon Musk: NYT Reporter

Publicly, Donald Trump is thrilled to have his mega-donor and “First Buddy” Elon Musk camping out just a few hundred feet from his house.

Privately, he seems to be tiring of Musk dropping in whenever he feels like it.

“Trump does complain a bit to people about how Musk is around a lot,” New York Times journalist and “Trump whisperer” Maggie Haberman told tech reporter Kara Swisher during the latest episode of Swisher’s podcast, On.

Trump hasn’t even taken office yet, and already Musk has inserted himself in policy battles to the point of Democrats calling him “President Musk.”

“It definitely bothers him,” Haberman said of Trump’s reaction to the taunt. “The ‘President Musk’ line was always going to be a way to get him. Trump’s not a wind-up toy, but there certainly are very specific things that can zotz him.”

This comes after US President-elect Donald Trump wanted to buy Greenland again, The Guardian reports.

For 500 years, the Danish royal coat of arms depicted three crowns – a symbol of the Kalmar Union between Denmark, Norway and Sweden from 1397 to 1523. But in the updated version of the coat of arms, the crowns were replaced with large images of a polar bear and a ram – they symbolize Greenland and the Faroe Islands respectively.

The Danish Royal House said that the updated coat of arms "strengthens the authority of the commonwealth." And the three crowns were removed because they were no longer "relevant."

🛢 Has The Shale Gas Boom Peaked? EIA Signals First Drop In Production

Oil and gas fields, no matter how productive, eventually decline. Before the transformative impact of the shale boom, U.S. oil production had been steadily falling for decades, while natural gas output had plateaued.

But the rise of shale drilling changed everything. Beginning in 2006, U.S. natural gas production surged by an impressive 94%, and by 2009, oil production also turned a corner, ultimately soaring by 170%.

For years, experts have debated how long this shale surge could last. Now, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) has offered a clue: U.S. shale gas production, which accounts for 79% of all dry gas output, dropped slightly in the first nine months of 2024 compared to the previous year. Should this pattern hold, 2024 could mark the first recorded decline in U.S. shale gas production since the EIA began tracking it in 2000.

Total U.S. shale output dropped by 1% to 81.2 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) from January to September 2024, while other dry gas production increased by 6%, averaging 103.3 Bcf/d overall. The decrease is primarily due to declines in the Haynesville (down 12%) and Utica (down 10%) plays, with only the Permian region showing growth (up 10%).
