‘100% Not in Line’ With MAHA: USDA Cuts to Critical School Lunch, Local Farm Programs Put Kids at Risk
The USDA last week cut two programs that provided U.S. schools and food banks over $1 billion to purchase food from local farms and ranchers, Politico reported.
Pediatrician Michelle Perro of GMO Science said eliminating programs that help schools purchase fresh, locally sourced food “is a deeply misguided decision that will negatively impact children’s health.”
“Access to healthy, nutrient-dense meals is essential for proper growth and cognitive development, especially for vulnerable students who rely on school meals. This policy change not only undermines these benefits but also prioritizes short-term cost-cutting over the long-term health of our children. This is 100% not in line with the MAHA [Make America Healthy Again] agenda and must be reinstated.”
In a statement to The Defender, the USDA said the programs were pandemic-era programs canceled because they “no longer effectuate the goals of the agency.”

⚖️ Plaintiffs Will Appeal Ruling in Merck Gardasil Vaccine Injury Case
Plaintiffs in a bellwether lawsuit against Merck alleging the company concealed the risks of its Gardasil HPV vaccine today said they will appeal a North Carolina federal judge’s ruling, handed down Tuesday, in favor of the pharmaceutical giant.
Michael Baum, lead attorney for the plaintiffs, told The Defender:
“We will be appealing the court’s order concluding that all of the Gardasil cases filed in federal court are preempted. In our view, none should have been.
“We believe the court failed to recognize that vaccine adverse event databases (VAERS and VigiBase), numerous case studies and Merck’s internal data clearly showed reasonable evidence of a causal association between Gardasil and autoimmune conditions like POTS [postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome] and POI [primary ovarian insufficiency].”
The lawsuit against Merck was the first of the “bellwether cases,” 16 cases selected as exemplar cases from a larger pool of more than 200 lawsuits pending in federal court against Merck for injuries related to its Gardasil vaccine.

U.S. taxpayers picked up the tab for about $6.2 billion worth of research, development and distribution of GLP-1s, the new class of blockbuster weight-loss drugs, according to an investigation by The Lever.
The “blockbuster drugs” generate annual sales exceeding $1 billion for Big Pharma.
Drugs like Ozempic, Wegovy and Zepbound — which belong to the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) class of drugs — are “minting billions of dollars” for Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk, the companies that make them.
Taxpayers fund the research. Pharma reaps massive profits. And Americans pay up to 11 times more for the drugs than people in other countries. The marked-up prices are inflating insurance premiums and risk bankrupting the country’s healthcare system, according to The Lever.

According to STAT News, Dave Weldon requested $1.9 million in the 2005 budget for the center to study “the biological origins” of childhood developmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, Congress chose not to fund it.
In 2007, Weldon introduced a bill “to improve vaccine safety research” that would have transferred the responsibility of tracking vaccine safety from the CDC to an independent agency within HHS.
