On our homestead, May Day generally consists of uncovering our Freyr idol and walking him through the gardens and fields, either in a small mock-wagon or by hand. Once we have visited all the necessary areas, we return the idol to his altar and leave generous offerings for his blessings and fortune. Two fires are built in front of the altar and each ritual participant walks between them, purifying themselves of yearly baggage and giving personal thanks to the great Yngvi-Freyr. This is who the "Bad Dürrenberg Shaman" from ice age Germany may have looked like 👀👀
The Bad Dürrenberg Shaman is an archaeological find, dating to about 9,000 - 8,800 years ago. Discovered in 1934, in the Saale River valley, the grave was extraordinary for its very well-preserved state and full of ice age relics!
The burial contained "a female shaman" accoring to the archeologists, including many relics, a headdress made of deer antlers and various animal bones, all of which suggest her having high status and maybe having a spiritual or tribal leadership position.
The burial full of tools, clothing and other finds reveal a journey to the underworld, much like all of our ancient ice age European ancestors. The placement of her body and artifacts around her showcases that Paganism in this time was complex and may lead to other discoveries about our most ancient ancestors.

Nøkken by Theodore Kittelsen in 1904, the water spirit depicted has a huge array of different depictions across various cultures.
German: Nixie Dutch: Nikker Finnish: Näkki Icelandic: Nykur Estonian: Näkk English: Neck or Nicker & more. For a creature to feature in so many different areas it must have had huge significance. The appearance might be hard to describe as they are mostly known as shapeshifters but I think Theodore did a great job. One appears in Beowulf as “Nicor” during a swimming contest. There’s many more references but I’m sure you’ve seen this picture a lot and this is the generalized lore.
Paganism: The world is full of intrigue & mystery, many Gods & spirits & creatures influence the world and can interact with you.
Abrahamism: Shut yourself off from the world and its evil influences submit to the one God so that you may leave the sinful world and live in paradise when you die.

Unlike Abrahamic religions, Pagan religions are perfectly fine in being the “underdog” as in not being the most followed on a global scale. Yes, it would be fortunate to see a world in which each peoples followed their folk religion in a proper way but it is not necessary, especially since these are tribal religions that don’t concern themselves with others. Think of the loose tribal people all across the world still following their ancestral ways, it would not occur to them that they need to join the herd of Abrahamism but indeed any follower of that would make an effort to convert them.
