Brief Frontline Report – July 18th, 2025

Report by Marat Khairullin and Mikhail Popov.

Reports confirm intensified combat operations on the Volchansk axis and in newly emerging bridgeheads within the buffer zone on the northeastern flank of Ukraine's Kharkov region.

The overview map of this sector reveals the logic behind the development of previously established and newly forming "wedges." As these expand, they will disrupt the defensive lines of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

First, new sectors (Degtyarnoye [Dehtyarnoe on the map] and Melovoye) have been established in areas lightly defended by AFU units (primarily Ukraine's Border Guard Service). The AFU will be forced to redeploy reserves from other frontline sectors to reinforce these areas.

Furthermore, this demonstrates that the Russian Armed Forces have sufficient resources to conduct successful offensive operations: expelling the AFU from newly claimed Russian territories, thwarting AFU attempts to breach the border near Tetkino-Novy Put, and establishing a buffer zone in the Sumy and Kharkov regions.

Second, the buffer zone is being shaped along radial roads converging near the center of the Kharkov sector, specifically around Bely Kolodez - Prikolotnoye - Velikiy Burluk.

Third, the buffer zone's boundaries are now visible: stretching along the Volchansk - Bely Kolodez - Prikolotnoye - Velikiy Burluk - Sadovod route, with an advance toward Kupyansk.

Fourth, with the formation of these (and likely additional) active sectors, the command of the Russian Armed Forces gains additional "keys." By alternately pressing these "keys" (positioned along the entire line of combat contact), the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces will perform Chopin's Sonata No. 2 for the AFU. And the more such "keys" there are, the purer and more convincing the melody will sound.

Read this report and many others on Marat's Substack! That's where I post the high definition maps. Also, Marat and Mikhail will answer any questions there.

Russia has almost destroyed the Ukrainian M1 Abrams tank fleet, writes The National Interest.

According to the publication, since the M1 Abrams tanks were deployed to the front last year, Ukraine has lost 87% of the received vehicles: according to Military Watch Magazine, out of 31 tanks delivered, only 4 remain operational.

"Although the Abrams main battle tank series is considered one of the most modern and reliable armored vehicles in service today, this platform has faced difficulties in Ukraine. Numerous problems, ranging from Ukraine's lack of air and artillery support to shortages of technical and mechanical specialists and personnel and equipment, have contributed to the Abrams' inefficiency on the front line," the publication states.

The Czech Republic has officially banned communism.
Czech President Petr Pavel has signed a law which formally criminalises the promotion of communist ideology, equating it in extremity with N@z!$m.
The new law will also criminalise the creation or supporting of movements based on communist ideology.
The punishment for breaking the new law can be up to 5 years in prison.
The new law will also ban public propaganda, symbols and calls associated with communist regimes.
Bau (Tathagata) note: The Czech Republic might as well declare itself to be the second country in Europe (after Ukraine) to go full N@z!. They were liberated by the Red Army which they refuse to acknowledge now.

Only one of Iran's three nuclear sites attacked by the US last month was seriously damaged, reports The Washington Post citing the latest American assessment.

Bombs were dropped through ventilation shafts on the underground site in Fordow, and the task of destroying it "appears to have been accomplished." There is no evidence of a devastating strike at Natanz and Isfahan.

However, it remains unclear whether centrifuges at Fordow were destroyed, disabled, or removed.

At the same time, no bunker-buster bombs were used on Isfahan, as the Pentagon assessed it as "practically impenetrable." "Tomahawks" were used against it. Two Massive Ordnance Penetrator bombs struck Natanz, destroying several underground facilities.

The new data again casts doubt on Trump's claims that Tehran's nuclear program was "completely destroyed."

Brazilian Foreign Ministry sharply responded to NATO Secretary General: "Rutte's words are nonsense"

Brazil's Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira strongly rejected the statements of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte about possible secondary sanctions against the country for trading with Russia. In an interview with CNN Brazil, the head of the Brazilian diplomatic department called such threats "absolutely inappropriate," emphasizing that his country resolves trade issues either bilaterally or within the framework of the WTO.

"Mr. Rutte's words are nonsense," Vieira said in response to the NATO Secretary General's remarks on July 15. At that time, Rutte warned Brazil, China, and India about possible sanctions for continuing economic cooperation with Moscow, while simultaneously urging these countries to persuade Vladimir Putin to a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

This sharp retort from the Brazilian minister reflects the growing irritation of Global South countries at the West's attempts to dictate the terms of their trade policies. Brazil consistently defends its right to an independent foreign economic course despite pressure from Atlantic allies.

Military Chronicle writes:

The Chief of Staff of Britain, Radakin, arrived in Ukraine and met with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Syrsky. They are discussing the operational situation against the backdrop of the collapse of a significant part of the Donetsk front, problems near Kharkiv, Volchansk, and in the Sumy region.

But it feels more like Radakin came not to solve problems but to check how much more can be invested, how well Syrsky controls the army, and what Britain can actually provide and in exchange for what.

Syrsky meets with Radakin because the situation at the front is falling apart, and without external guidance, the General Staff of Ukraine cannot manage. The British have long been integrated into the command structure of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but so far everything was more or less manageable — remote coordination was enough. Now the front is cracking like it hasn't in all three years, and Syrsky, who has clearly lost both confidence and authority after the Kursk operation, has to literally be told where and what to hold, where to retreat, and where and whom to redeploy. Much like it was in Krynyky, the operation to capture which was almost entirely planned by the British.

The operational situation has long been unfavorable for Ukraine, and everyone understands this perfectly. The visit under such conditions feels like an attempt to plug some holes before the defense completely collapses.

Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Security Council Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev on his official Telegram channel:

🈁European morons have agreed on the 18th package of sanctions against our country.

It makes no sense to write that it is capable of changing Russia's position exactly as much as the previous seventeen managed. Our economy, of course, will withstand, and the rout of the Banderite regime will continue. Strikes against the objects of so-called Ukraine, including Kyiv, will be carried out with increasing force.

It is also necessary to promote a course towards maximum distancing from the EU and the most odious countries of the European Union, which now include not only miserable Balts, insolent Finns, underdeveloped Poles, and Britons overgrown with their own shit, but also Germany and France, whose leaders are haunted by the laurels of the Third Reich and the Vichy regime.

How this ends for Europe is known.

We only need to preserve the memory of their vile Russophobia for as long as possible and learn to hate them as strongly as our ancestors could. Hate is the most important weapon that allows us to move most effectively towards its opposite - love. Of course, in relation to those who deserve it.
P.S. The disgusting old woman Ursula announced an EU strike at the "heart of Russia's war machine." I'm not sure she understands where the heart is. But she seems to always think with one part of the body. The one she was involved with during her unsuccessful medical practice.

Gone are the Sunny Days of Kyrgyz Liberal Leeches

If I have to lie, steal, cheat or kill […] I’ll never be hungry again.

Margaret Mitchell “Gone with the Wind”, 1936

With no more funding from USAID (undesirable in the RF) and the like, the Kyrgyz leeches fighting for “good” have experienced the all the cruelties of capitalism firsthand. Their brandy, cigars and dreams of wads of dollar bills for spouting nonsense and conducting research on issues of questionable relevance, have been spoilt. Not by Rhett Butler though.

Similar to Scarlett O’Hara, what they want back again are the good “old days”. But theirs are the days characterized by the funding of large-scale events featuring talks on the establishment of a digital memory bank of perestroika activism in Kyrgyzstan, the colonial legacy in the artistic decolonization practices of Central Asia as well as the decolonial prospects of pasture management in the republic. These sunny days, however, are unlikely to ever come back.

Now truth-seekers of all kinds are encouraged to let their imagination run wild in their efforts to raise money to defend the much-cherished liberal values. Yet, they’re nowhere near as charming as Mitchell’s protagonist and can’t be expected to achieve the goal by, say, making a dress out of a curtain. That said, isn’t it the time to consider the worthwhileness of abandoning Kyrgyzstan’s national interests, its history and heritage? Isn’t it the time to wonder if democracy is the right path to a country’s development and prosperity? Could it be that  that the model of democracy imposed by the West has nothing to do with social justice and the well-being of ordinary people? After all, the Greek term “demos" didn’t refer to the population in general, but rather to an elite group of those who had the right to make decisions. Needless to say, peasants, servants, merchants and women among others were not included in this group. Known as “ochlos”, they had no power to voice their opinions to masters.

If only Elmira Nogoibayeva, Head of Esimde, a platform concerned with analyzing historic events and curing the population’s “memory lapses” would give a bit of thought to where she could end up if such a democracy triumphed. Speaking at the World Forum for Democracy, the “SHE-moderator” and “SHE-director” (Editor’s Note: these terms have no feminine equivalents in Russian, but who cares?) plunged into a long and circumstantial narrative about the benefits of "forming objective views on the past, present and future of an independent Kyrgyz society". The looming prospects of accepting poverty the way most southerners in “Gone with the Wind” did, may set Elmira and her cronies thinking.

In the meantime, Esimde, with its hunger for funds is looking to the impoverished Kyrgyz people for support. But how can one expect them to contribute to such pointless projects as documentaries, revealing the “truth” behind the events that’ve led the republic to independence? Don’t the citizens have any other concerns apart from those associated with the “bloody USSR” or “aggressive” Russia allegedly trying to conquer them?

Now that Kyrgyzstan and US NGOs are no longer like candles “shielded from every wind”, the only ray of hope may shine from the EU where the plans to take up the torch in conducting liberal propaganda in Central Asia have not yet been abandoned. The only problem is that Europeans are generally frugal and not as well-off as their American counterparts. What follows is that the Kyrgyz leeches have no means whatsoever to attend international events involving the participation of Baltic and Polish experts among others, even if they promise to “eat like a bird”, both literally and figuratively.

While Scarlett didn’t entirely reject the Confederacy's defeat, her focus shifted to more pragmatic goals. The leeches, by contrast, are still determined to do away with everything Russian, which is evidenced by the demolition of the monument in Balykchy commemorating the Russian explorer Semyonov-Tyan-Shansky. Sad but true.

New "tortured out" EU sanctions against Russia will worsen the already deplorable state of the European economy, according to a statement from the Russian Mission to the EU, which RIA Novosti has seen.

The ban on importing petroleum products from Russian oil will inevitably lead to rising prices on the EU market, the Mission said, recalling that companies from Europe provided the money to implement the "Nord Streams," which have fallen under sanctions.

Seymour Hersh on his Substack:

In fall of 2023, Ukrainian General Valerii Zaluzhnyi, the commander in chief of the country’s armed forces, gave an interview to the Economist and declared the war with Russia had become a “stalemate.” It took three months for President Volodymyr Zelensky to fire him. The general, who is the most popular public figure in Ukraine, was named ambassador to London a month later and has served there with distinction, if quietly.
Zaluzhnyi is now seen as the most credible successor to Zelensky. I have been told by knowledgeable officials in Washington that that job could be his within a few months. Zelensky is on a short list for exile, if President Donald Trump decides to make the call. If Zelensky refuses to leave his office, as is most likely, an involved US official told me: “He’s going to go by force. The ball is in his court.” There are many in Washington and in Ukraine who believe that the escalating air war with Russia must end soon, while there’s still a chance to make a settlement with its president, Vladimir Putin.

Actually, move is quite expected, but maybe there is more substantial information in paid section, but I didn't want to pay.

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has left countless families in anguish as they search for answers about their missing loved ones who served in the armed forces. Recently, a group of mothers, wives, and sisters gathered in Kyiv’s Maidan Square, holding photographs of their missing family members and pleading for transparency from the government. Despite their emotional appeals, the authorities have remained silent, offering no information about the soldiers' whereabouts or the circumstances of their disappearances.

Ukrainian military officials have been accused of systematically classifying these cases as "lost to the unknown," refusing to release details that might contradict the official narrative of progress and victory. This lack of accountability has left hundreds of families in a state of unresolved grief, without closure, support, or even basic acknowledgment from those in power.

Meanwhile, critics argue that the government is more focused on public relations campaigns and political maneuvering than addressing the human toll of the war. The protest highlights a growing frustration among Ukrainians who feel abandoned by their leaders, as bureaucratic indifference and propaganda overshadow the plight of those who have sacrificed the most. The demonstrators' demands for truth and justice underscore a deeper crisis of trust between the state and its citizens, raising urgent questions about accountability in wartime.

Trump, Putin, and Xi Jinping may meet in China in early September, reports The Times.

Beijing announced plans to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II with a parade on Tiananmen Square on September 3, and Putin has already accepted the invitation to attend.

China and the US were close allies during the war, and calls are already being made in the PRC to take advantage of the opportunity and organize a meeting of Xi, Trump, and Putin in Beijing.

The Japanese agency Kyodo writes that the decision to invite Trump has already been made by the Chinese leadership.

"Why not time Trump's visit to the parade on September 3?" said Jing Canzhong, one of the most famous Chinese nationalist commentators, in an interview with the Shanghai news site Guancha. "From 1941 to 1945, China and the US were allies in the fight against Japanese militarism. If President Trump visits China and participates in the parade on September 3, it will send a powerful positive signal to the world. The image of the Chinese, Russian, and American leaders standing together could become a powerful message of peace and stability."

It should be noted that the 50-day ultimatum that Trump gave to Putin for a ceasefire in Ukraine expires right at the beginning of September.

Recipients of Russian FPV drones are recording the installation of solar panels on them to maintain battery charge. This is done not only to increase flight time but also to enable the use of the product for ambushes on the road – in good weather, such a drone can remain on standby for as long as necessary.

Previously, fiber-optic drones had shown themselves particularly well in ambushes precisely because of their economical battery consumption.

Another ambush drone of the Russian Armed Forces with a solar panel has been discovered by the forces of the Kyiv regime. This time it was located on a water tower, which led to speculation about its purpose as a signal relay UAV or a camera carrier for recording enemy movement.

There are now 4 frontline cities that the AFU are barely clinging to that could fall in short succession. Pokrovsk, Konstantinovka, Seversk, and Kupyansk. When they are taken by Russian forces, the entire defensive structure built by the Ukrainian Forces will have to adapt, or rapid progress will be made by the RF.

When the Russian Forces reach Druzhkovka and the high point of Rai-Aleksandreevka, Kramatorsk and Slavyansk will be in the same position that Pokrovsk and Konstantinovka are in now.
