United States v Switzerland - International Friendly Photo by Robin Alam/ISI Photos/ISI Photos via Getty Images Another one bites the dust at Bayer Leverkusen (not literally)... As expected (or maybe feared for Bayer Leverkusen fans), Granit Xhaka is headed to Sunderland. After agreeing on personal terms with the English club earlier this month, Xhaka is headed back to the Premier League per Fabrizio Romano: ⚪️ EXCLUSIVE: Granit Xhaka to Sunderland, here we go! Deal agreed between all parties involved.Understand fee will be €20m, contract until 2027.Green light from Bayer Leverkusen for the player to fly today and complete his move to #SAFC, one more ambitious signing.Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg added context to the report: Granit #Xhaka to Sunderland is now considered a done deal, as expected. An agreement between Leverkusen and Sunderland has been reached for a fee of €20 million including bonuses, after @FabrizioRomano and confirmed. A verbal agreement until 2028 + 1 was already in place, as previously reported. If Xhaka doesn’t change his mind now, the deal will go through. @SkySportDEBayer Leverkusen’s roster has been ripped apart this summer. Bayern Munich is getting Liverpool’s Luis Diaz...now what? Let’s talk through why we should take a step back, relax, and try to make the best of the move. Also, we’ve got some ideas about what might be next for Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart for Nick Woltemade, why kicking the tires on Benjamin Šeško could be a good idea, the prospect of Gianluigi Donnarumma at Bayern, Jamal Musiala’ comeback plan, and MORE! RC Celta de Vigo v CA Osasuna - La Liga EA Sports Photo by Jose Manuel Alvarez Rey/JAR Sport Images/NurPhoto via Getty Images Bayern Munich is trying to recoup what it spent on Bryan Zaragoza... Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has tracked down some details on Bayern Munich’s transaction with Celta Vigo for Bryan Zaragoza: ⚪️ EXCL | Bryan #Zaragoza to Celta Vigo is considered a done deal.A full agreement with FC Bayern on a loan with an obligation to buy has now been reached. ⤵️ More exclusive details on Bryan #Zaragoza: €13m obligation to buy will be triggered based on a realistic number of appearances, and Celta Vigo finishing at least between 11th and 13th in the league table. There were follow-up questions, but it should be clear — even though a word was missing: In addition to the appearances, they must finish at least between 11th and 13th.This is an interesting set-up for the arrangement, but it does get Bayern Munich back into a range where it does not feel like acquiring Zaragoza in the first place was a complete waste of funds. In addition, that is probably as good as it will get right now for Zaragoza — especially when everyone knows Bayern Munich has no use for him. Beckenbauer Cup FC Bayern München 125 Years Photo by Stefan Matzke - sampics/Getty Images Bayern are going global again...in the form of at least one legend. Bayern Munich legend Franck Ribéry is going to South Korea in September. The 42-year-old winger has been invited to the Nexon Icons Match in Seoul. The announcement was made on the 23rd of July. The Icons Match is a large-scale event hosted by Korean gaming giants Nexon and charity Shoot For Love. The concept was to bring together a group of retired footballing legends and split them into two teams - offensive and defensive - based on their positions in their playing days. This writer actually wrote a hypothetical post about it using Bayern legends last year. The first edition of the Icons Match was held last October, and featured legends like Didier Drogba, Kaká, Rio Ferdinand, Luís Figo, Michael Owen, Andrea Pirlo, Clarence Seedorf, Fabio Cannavaro, Thierry Henry, etc. This year, a lot of them will be making a comeback, along with a couple of new faces, including Ribéry.Ribéry’s participation caught a bit of attention from Shoot For Love - they remembered that Ribéry had been sent off for slapping Koo Ja-cheol in a DFB-Pokal game against FC Augsburg in the 2012/13 season. Koo will also be joining the team this year and will play alongside Ribéry. The two are not harboring any ill feelings for each other, and exchanged warm video messages.Ribéry will be the first Bayern alum to join the party, although it remains to be seen whether he will be the last. Unconfirmed rumors suggested that Philipp Lahm was close to joining last year’s team. Fans are currently clamoring for Ribéry’s partner in crime Arjen Robben to join as well.Should this writer prevail in the arduous ticket booking process for the match, he will deliver a report on King Franck’s performance (along with any other Bayern legends, should they join the party).

Paris Saint-Germain v FC Bayern München: Quarter-final - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images The deal got done... In a recent interview with Süddeutsche Zeitung (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich talked through his decision-making process for signing his new deal in Bavaria. “First of all, it was a completely new situation for me. With my previous contract extensions, it was always just a question of what terms would I be renewing under? This time, there were concrete alternatives. I don’t want to name any names, that’s not appropriate. After all, I deliberately chose FC Bayern,” said Kimmich. “Last summer, I was a potential transfer candidate at FC Bayern, let’s not forget that.”When asked if he was told that the club was thinking about selling him, Kimmich said that he had only heard the rumors. “Well, of course, no one comes to you and says, ‘We want to get rid of you.’ But I certainly noticed that the club was open to it. During that phase last summer, the thought began to grow in me: ‘Okay, there are other clubs in the world.’ Although it was actually clear to me that I didn’t want to just leave after a year like that,” said Kimmich. When asked why Kimmich took so long to make a decision, the Germany international talked through the process. “My old contract was due to expire in June, meaning, according to the regulations, I wasn’t allowed to talk to other clubs until January anyway. And I wanted to reserve the right to explore alternatives before signing what was likely my last major contract. I didn’t want to make a decision without knowing my options and weighing them up side by side,” said Kimmich. “And of course, this process wasn’t completed on January 5th. At the same time, I remained in constant contact with FC Bayern, and the club knew where I stood at all times. I was in regular contact with Max Eberl and Christoph Freund, and we talked a lot about prospects. Concrete figures only really came up in the last three weeks—and then my decision was actually made relatively quickly. At least, that’s what I think [laughs].”Kimmich also confirmed that he had more lucrative offers:“I can confirm that,” said Kimmich. “It’s about the overall structure. Money is a factor, of course, but the most important question for me was the sporting perspective: Where do I have the best chance of regularly competing for the Champions League title in the coming years? And the next question depends on this: Where do I have the best chance of playing a key role and influencing the team? In the end, both factors spoke in favor of FC Bayern. Added to that, of course, is the fact that my family feels very comfortable here; our four children were born here, and Munich has become our home.”Finally, Kimmich confirmed that the contract extensions for Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies played a role in his decision. “That was intentional. I wanted to be able to assess the team’s prospects, and I think the contract extensions with Jamal and Phonzy are a statement in that regard. I feel that FC Bayern is very well positioned and very healthy compared to other top clubs in Europe. I believe the mix is right: The club is careful about its finances, but is still willing to invest when it believes in something,” Kimmich stated. With a move for Hugo Ekitiké getting close, the reality is that Bayern Munich is likely going to get Luis Diaz…whether fans like it or not. Bayern Munich has reportedly also exited talks with VfB Stuttgart to focus on a deal for Diaz. It might also just be time for Bayern Munich to rip off the band-aid and sell Kim Min-jae, João Palhinha, and Sacha Boey. Finally, we have a note on Bayer Leverkusen’s CEO and his recent slam on Bayern. You can get all of that and more on the latest edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works Show! Liverpool Pre-Season Training Photo by Nikki Dyer - LFC/Liverpool FC via Getty Images A day late (and hopefully a few dollars...err, euros...short). According to a report from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, the timeline for Liverpool FC winger — and new Bayern Munich acquisition — Luis Diaz to arrive in Bavaria has been pushed back a day. Luis #Díaz will arrive in Munich on Tuesday, with his medical also scheduled to take place the same day.He will then sign a contract until 2029, with an option for a further year. FC Bayern are paying €70m as a fixed fee, plus up to €5m in potential bonuses.Agents Christian Wein and Raul Pais Da Costa from the agency AS1 played a crucial role in making the deal happen. @SkySportDEMeanwhile, Sport Bild’s Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl have slightly different information regarding the total financial package headed over to Liverpool: Bayern will pay Liverpool a fixed fee of €67.5m plus add-ons that could take the deal up to €75m for Luis Díaz.Until everything goes official, we will probably see more slight shifts in the numbers. FBL-FRA-LIGUE1-LYON-RENNES Fofana was one of a small handful of backup options on Bayern’s list in the event the Luis Diaz move fell through. After several twists and turns in the tale, rejected bids, and a slew of varying rumors over the course of the past couple of weeks, it finally looks like Bayern Munich is 100% going to be signing Luis Diaz from Liverpool. The deal is going to be worth around 75 to 80 million euros, which Liverpool is presumably going to use to invest into a potential transfer for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, who recently told Newcastle he wants to explore other options this summer away from Tyneside. All things considered, Diaz was technically a backup option to Florian Wirtz, but Bayern also had contingency plans lined up in the event that a move for the Colombian winger also fell through. Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku, RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons, and Lyon’s Malick Fofana were all players identified on Bayern’s backup option list, though Simons is now on the verge of completing a move to Chelsea.Additionally, per information from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg (@iMiaSanMia), Lyon’s Fofana was never really a concrete or serious option for Bayern. While it wasn’t 100% known that Bayern would wind up agreeing on a deal with Liverpool for Diaz, the Colombian was the sole focus of the club, especially after they had temporarily tabled their efforts to sign striker Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart. As things stand, Fofana is a on the verge of a completing a move to Everton, though Lyon is currently asking for a higher bid than the one the Blues have already submitted. The Ligue 1 outfit has leverage in this situation because they are aware of the fact that different Champions League clubs have at least loosely been linked with wanting to sign Fofana. Thus, they can try to hold out to try to get more money from Everton. Ironically enough, Bayern defender Adam Aznou will also be heading to Everton, as a deal worth up to 12 million euros was just agreed upon.

RB Leipzig v VfB Stuttgart - Bundesliga Photo by Maja Hitij/Getty Images Scratch one name off the board? As things progress, Chelsea FC is reportedly getting very close to making its first offer to RB Leipzig for star attacker Xavi Simons. According to GiveMeSport journalist Ben Jacobs (via @iMiaSanMia), personal terms are pretty much done and now it will be a matter of the teams agreeing on a transfer fee. However, Chelsea still has to make a formal proposal: Personal terms between Xavi Simons and Chelsea are now ‘broadly’ in place. Chelsea are expected to place a first formal offer soon. Bayern and Arsenal are monitoring the situation but have yet to place bids.Fabrizio Romano had similar news: Understand Chelsea and RB Leipzig are now in advanced talks for Xavi Simons.Negotiations club to club progressing well, still work to do but heading positive direction.Xavi, keen on Chelsea project with personal terms talks also advanced.Simons might have been the best overall fit for Bayern Munich’s needs this summer, but he has been rumored to be focused on a move to England. Looking for the latest Bayern Munich discussion, then check out Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show. This is what we have on tap:€75 million might be Bayern’s magic number for Liverpool’s Luis Diaz — and we think we finally know why we have been feeling so iffy about the situation.Bayern made its last bid on Nick Woltemade, which could still fall short of the mark. If that fails...who’s next? Maybe of three Red Bull-related players. Are we headed into an era of stability at Bayern Munich?
