The 12 months of the year are like the 12 sons of Prophet Ya'qub A.S. Just as Prophet Yusuf A.S was the most beloved to Ya'qub A.S, the month of Ramadhan is the most beloved to Allah. And just as Allah forgave the 11 brothers by the du'a of one, Yusuf A.S, He can forgive your 11 months of sins by your du'a in Ramadhan."

Will I get a higher score using idioms or quotes in my IELTS essay?🤨

The answer is clear - NO❗️Idioms, such as "it costs an arm and leg" are informal which means they are not suitable for IELTS writing task 2 academic or general training essays.

A funny 😆 anecdote from AI | IELTS

During an IELTS speaking test, the examiner asked the candidate to talk about their hobbies. The candidate confidently replied, "My hobby is playing the guitar. I can play many types of guitars such as the acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and even air guitar."

The examiner, trying not to laugh, replied, "That's impressive. Can you tell me more about your skills in air guitar?"

The candidate replied, "Well, I have to say that I'm quite good at it. I can play almost any song on air guitar, but the downside is that nobody can hear it."

The examiner burst out laughing and had to take a moment to compose themselves before continuing with the test.

Obesity is now a major global epidemic. What can be done to tackle this increasingly common problem?

Obesity is now one of the main causes of preventable death, especially in industrialised countries. To tackle this problem, governments can reduce the impact of their overweight citizens by the careful use of taxation to fund alternatives to a sedentary lifestyle. However, individuals should also take responsibility for their own health by avoiding a bad diet and taking the initiative to participate in sport.

It is important for governments to act quickly to curb obesity because of the rising death rate. There will also be rising costs in healthcare and the benefits system if it is left unchecked. To combat this problem, governments should, first of all, heavily tax junk food and use the revenue generated to subsidise healthy fruit and vegetables. This would make healthy food cheaper and more widely available than unhealthier options. Also, the government can act by funding leisure centres, sports clubs and gyms. This money could be used to help people gain motivation to exercise and become more active.

On the other hand, there are those who claim that obesity is due to lifestyle choice and therefore an individual problem, not one for the government. They claim that people should find their own motivation to prevent obesity by being aware of the potentially fatal consequences of their lifestyles. Individuals could also change their diets by switching from a carbohydrate - heavy diet to one which includes a balance of vitamins and minerals. Joining a sports club need not always be the only way to lose weight. Even vigorous housework or heavy gardening can help avert heart disease.

In conclusion, although individuals may be able to help themselves by changing their diets and activities, it may require government intervention to tackle obesity quickly and on a large scale.

Is the IELTS exam easy and hard depending on the country? I heard it's easy in Nepal and hard in gulf countries.

No, that’s not true. Countries have no control about which exam they give. It is all controlled by Cambridge.

The exam is, in theory, of equal challenge wherever you take it. For example, the writing and speaking are marked to the same criteria so it doesn’t matter if you take the exam in the US or Pakistan, you are marked to the same standard.

The only way you will have an advantage is if any part of the exam is about something you know a lot about. So, if you are a teacher and your Parts 2 and 3 speaking questions are about education, then you should be able to do well. However, this will only help with part of the criteria.

Good luck with your exam.

My IELTS materials!

In certain nations, an increasing number of parents are opting to educate their kids at home instead of sending them to schools. While this can lead to increased bonding, I believe that the drawbacks of this trend prevail over the aforementioned benefit, as the numerous distractions and lack of proper competition at home will not allow the kids to learn well.

There are several drawbacks to homeschooling. Firstly, homes are not designed for learning. This is because the primary reason for setting up home is comfort, consequently kids will have several distractions when they opt to be schooled at home. Such distractions range from televisions, the aroma of a favourite meal being prepared in the kitchen, and the noise from neighbours. . For example, statistics show that children hardly learn for more than an hour at a stretch at home due to interruptions around the house. Also, youngsters learn more when they interact and compete with their equals, an arrangement that is lacking when they are taught at home by their fathers or mothers. I believe that these drawbacks significantly outweigh any perceived merits of homeschooling.

Nevertheless, there are also some advantages to studying at home. By opting to teach their kids at home, parents can develop an increased bonding with them. As a result they get to understand them better and are able to fully help them develop into better adults. To illustrate, a study carried out by the Guidiance and Counselling Unit at the University Of Lagos Nigeria in 2019, showed that a significant majority of the well behaved first year students had some form of homeschooling. However, I am of the opinion that these benefits do not make learning at home better than in schools.

In conclusion, it is true that homeschooling can enhance the love between parents and their children. However, I believe that the drawbacks of poor learning environment and lack of adequate competition outweighs the mentioned merit.
