Original reporting on everything that matters in Israel!
A BBC Arabic freelancer, Samer Elzaenen, who reported live after the October 7 Hamas attack, was found to have posted violent antisemitic messages on Facebook, including calls to burn Jews “as Hitler did.” He also praised Hamas terrorists as “resistance fighters.”
Another contributor, Ahmed Qannan, endorsed violence against Israelis after the deadly synagogue attack on Holocaust Memorial Day in 2023.
Back in May 2011, Elzaenen posted similar statements on Facebook: “My message to the Zionist Jews: We are going to take our land back. We love death for Allah’s sake the same way you love life. We shall burn you as Hitler did, but this time we won’t leave a single one of you alive.” Eleven years later, he wrote, “When things go awry for us, shoot the Jews, it fixes everything.”
The BBC said both are freelancers, not staff, and condemned antisemitism — but criticism is growing. Leaders like Kemi Badenoch are calling for a full reform of BBC Arabic amid repeated accusations of antisemitism and bias.

The U.S. praised President Santiago Peña for designating Iran’s IRGC as a terrorist group and expanding Paraguay’s 2019 terrorist designations to include all of Hezbollah and Hamas.
Iran, the world’s top terror sponsor, funds attacks through the IRGC and proxies like Hezbollah and Hamas. Paraguay’s move will disrupt their operations, especially in the Tri-Border Area with Argentina and Brazil.
The U.S. urges all countries to hold Iran accountable and block its terrorist networks.

Abbas also demanded Hamas hand over control of Gaza, give up its weapons, and become a political party.
Pope Francis was laid to rest Saturday as over 250,000 mourners packed the Vatican. World leaders and royalty attended, but no senior Israeli officials were present, highlighting tensions over the Gaza war. Only Israel’s ambassador represented Jerusalem, a move criticized by former diplomats.
Francis, who died at 88 after a stroke, was praised for championing migrants, peace, and climate action. After the funeral, his coffin was driven through Rome to St. Mary Major Basilica, where crowds shouted “Viva il Papa” and threw flowers along the route.
Israel has made unprecedented use of AI in the Gaza war, with programs developed by Unit 8200 soldiers and reservists from tech giants like Meta, Google, and Microsoft, according to The New York Times.
Tools include a chatbot trained in Arabic dialects to gauge public sentiment, an audio-based locator for airstrikes, and facial recognition to identify hidden or injured individuals. These technologies have helped locate Hamas leaders and hostages, though Israeli officers admitted some tools are faulty and raise ethical concerns.
The innovation hub “The Studio,” part of Unit 8200, connected soldiers with reservists to build these capabilities. Tools like the audio locator helped target Hamas commander Ibrahim Biari, but the strike caused civilian casualties and is under investigation.
Facial recognition at checkpoints led to mistaken arrests, and the Arabic chatbot sometimes misinterpreted slang, needing human correction. Despite flaws, officials say AI has significantly sped up military operations in Gaza.
A massive explosion at Iran’s Shahid Rajaee Port killed at least 8 and injured 750 on Saturday. The blast, linked to chemicals used for missile fuel, caused a major fire that burned for hours.
Iranian officials said the explosion started in a hazmat storage area. The blast coincides with US-Iran nuclear talks and comes years after the same port was hit by a suspected Israeli cyberattack. No blame has been officially assigned.
State media later reported that the fire has intensified and could spread to other areas and containers. The blaze has been burning for around 10 hours. Schools and offices near the port have been closed as a precaution.

Some 12,000 people—including Holocaust survivors, former hostages, and bereaved families—marched from Auschwitz to Birkenau in this year’s March of the Living.
Led by released hostage Eli Sharabi and joined by President Herzog, the march honored both victims of the Holocaust and those still held captive by Hamas.
Herzog called the return of the hostages a “universal human imperative,” while Sharabi, who lost his wife and daughters on October 7, declared, “I chose life—and that gives me hope.”
Calls of “Bring them home now!” echoed alongside memories of the 6 million Jews murdered.
From past horrors to present struggles—the Jewish people march on.

In a major reversal, the ICC Appeals Court has sided with Israel, sending the case against Netanyahu and Gallant back to a lower court to fully consider Israel’s jurisdictional objections.
