During her time in Basel for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, Israeli singer Yuval Raphael visited the historic balcony at the Hotel Les Trois Rois, where Theodor Herzl was famously photographed in 1901 during the Fifth Zionist Congress. By recreating Herzl’s iconic pose, Raphael paid tribute to a pivotal moment in Zionist history, symbolizing resilience and hope.
This gesture aligns with the thematic elements of her Eurovision entry, “New Day Will Rise,” which conveys messages of renewal and perseverance. The performance’s staging includes a massive chandelier and a balcony reminiscent of Herzl’s, further emphasizing the connection between past and present aspirations.
Raphael’s homage serves as a poignant reminder of enduring strength and the pursuit of a brighter future, resonating with audiences amid contemporary challenges.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez described Israel as a “genocidal state” during a parliamentary session in Madrid. Responding to criticism from Gabriel Rufián, a Catalan MP who accused Sánchez of maintaining trade ties with Israel despite the ongoing conflict in Gaza, the Prime Minister stated:
“We do not do business with a genocidal state, we do not.”
This marked the first time Sánchez publicly used such terminology, aligning with language previously employed by his far-left coalition partner, Sumar. The statement intensified diplomatic tensions between Spain and Israel, leading to the summoning of the Spanish ambassador to Israel for a reprimand.

The couple was arrested during a trip to Iran in 2022 and later shown on Iranian TV allegedly confessing to spying—confessions France insists were coerced. Since their arrest, they’ve been denied proper consular access and held under conditions France describes as inhumane.
This legal move marks a serious escalation in France’s efforts to pressure Iran, which it accuses of using foreign detainees as political pawns in what’s often referred to as “hostage diplomacy.” The case also follows broader European action, including EU sanctions against Iranian officials tied to such arrests, aiming to hold Iran accountable and push for the couple’s release.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed that Private Arthur Gasner, previously listed as missing since 1949, was buried alongside two fellow soldiers in a military cemetery in Rehovot. Gasner was killed on April 20, 1949, during an operation by the Negev Brigade in the Lachish area.
This determination was made following an extensive investigation by the IDF’s Missing Persons Unit, which utilized historical records and forensic analysis to establish the burial site.
President Trump said the U.S. is “getting close” to a possible deal with Iran, claiming Tehran has “sort of agreed to terms.” The talks, held indirectly through Oman, focus on reducing Iran’s uranium enrichment in exchange for sanctions relief and stricter inspections. While Trump hopes for a peaceful resolution, he warned of severe consequences if Iran doesn’t comply. Israel remains skeptical of the deal’s ability to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

He explained that the negotiations are being steered along a “friendly path,” stressing that there are only two options for Iran: a friendly approach or an unfriendly one—nothing in between. Trump expressed his desire to avoid any deterioration in relations with Iran, adding that he envisions a scenario where Iran not only complies with the agreement but also succeeds, thrives, and prospers, ultimately benefiting everyone involved.
