✍️🇵🇰 - Who is Mahrang Baloch — the most prominent voice from Balochistan — and what is the 'Baloch Yakjehti Movement' she's leading?
- Mahrang Baloch is a prominent Baloch human rights activist and medical doctor from Balochistan, Pakistan. She became a leading voice against enforced disappearances and state violence after her father, Dr. Deen Mohammad Baloch, was forcibly disappeared in 2009 by security forces and later his bullet ridden body was found. His case still remains unresolved.
Mahrang's personal loss transformed her into a lifelong activist. Over the years, she has consistently spoken out against the militarization of Balochistan, extrajudicial killings, and the silencing of dissent.
In response to the growing state repression, she helped launch the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) — a grassroots movement advocating for Baloch rights, justice for the disappeared, and accountability for human rights abuses. Under her leadership, BYC organized major protests, including the 2023–24 Baloch Long March to Islamabad, which brought national and international attention to the crisis in Balochistan.
BYC''s five point-charter of demands:
1- End to Enforced Disappearances
2- Stop State Repression and Militarization in Balochistan
3- Accountability for Killings and Abuse
4- End to Harassment of Protesters and Families of the Disappeared
5- Recognition of the Baloch People’s Right to Dignity and Justice

🇵🇰🌵🐾 The Return of the Sand Cat in Pakistan.
After nearly 50 years of disappearance, the elusive Sand Cat has re-emerged in Pakistan — thanks to 16 years of relentless dedication and ingenuity by conservationists.
Here's how it happened:
🔹 The Sand Cat vanished from Pakistan almost 5 decades ago — no confirmed sightings for years.
🔹 Conservationists working on small mammals and reptiles began finding occasional traces.
🔹 The Pakistan Sand Cat Program was launched to protect this mysterious desert feline.
🔹 Tracking it was nearly impossible:
• Silent paws with fur leave no tracks
• Doesn’t respond to food, catnip, or calls
• Avoids water and makes no sounds
🔹 Innovative solution: Attracting gerbils (its prey) with watermelon seeds near camera traps — and it worked!
📸 Clear photos of the Sand Cats in Pakistan’s Baluchisran province were finally captured in its natural desert habitat.
