⚡️🇺🇸🇮🇷 — The US military is preparing for a wide-scale attack on Iran expected to last about 3 days and focus on missile and drone systems, energy facilities and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps headquarters, The New York Times reported.

US officials told the paper that President Donald Trump has rejected 5 military-operation plans targeting Iran or the Houthis in recent months and made clear he would not attack before next month’s US midterm elections.

➡️ Three US aircraft carriers are expected to deploy to the Middle East for the first time since 2003, alongside more than 20,000 troops and hundreds of aircraft.

⚡️🇺🇸🇮🇷 — The US Treasury sanctioned 17 additional vessels it says are tied to Iran’s “shadow fleet” and used to transport oil and gas, targeting Tehran’s ability to move and monetize petroleum/petrochemical exports. The vessels are registered across more than a dozen jurisdictions and, according to Treasury, have transported millions of barrels of Iranian crude, petroleum and petrochemical products. The measure alone is not expected to significantly affect Iran’s economy but targets the “remnants” of the shadow fleet, complementing existing sanctions. — US Treasury press release

Designated vessels include Vanuatu-flagged TINA 5 (>1.5M barrels of Iranian crude in August), Comoros-flagged LPG tanker SOGL (>2M barrels of Iranian propane and butane since September 2025) and Cameroon-flagged crude tanker SHENZHEN (>3.5M barrels of Iranian crude since November 2025).

➡️ A Treasury official said Iran has stopped loading and offloading oil due to the ongoing US blockade of its ports; Kpler data indicate Tehran has not loaded crude for export since August 25.

⚡️🇺🇦🇺🇸🇷🇺 — US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will meet Ukrainian representatives in Miami on Friday to discuss “new ideas and proposals” developed by American negotiators with Russian and Ukrainian counterparts during their recent regional visit and seek a unified proposal to resolve the Ukraine war, according to an American source familiar with the plan. White House National Security Council and Treasury officials will attend; Kyiv will be represented by chief of staff Kyrylo Budanov, intelligence chief Rustem Umerov and top negotiator David Arakhamia, while national security advisers from the UK, France and Germany, plus NATO and EU officials, were invited. — Reuters

➡️ The talks are expected to address security guarantees for Ukraine, a post-war prosperity plan and other conflict-related issues. The source said European governments had conveyed frustration to Washington over high energy costs and other major financial impacts of the war, warning: “It will be a tough winter if the war does not stop.”

⚡️🇺🇸🇷🇺🇩🇪 — White House Envoy Discusses Nord Stream Pipeline Investment with Kremlin Official, — The Telegraph.

➡️ Donald Trump is considering a deal with Vladimir Putin to reopen the Nord Stream gas pipelines, with White House special envoy Jared Kushner reportedly holding talks with Kirill Dmitriev—a close adviser to the Russian president—in New York and Moscow in recent weeks. Kushner views the resumption of trade with Moscow as central to restoring peace between Russia and Ukraine. A White House official stated that any deals would have to be negotiated by Russia with the DFC and the Treasury and must benefit U.S. taxpayers and companies, while adding that there had been "no Nord Stream discussions recently."

➡️ Reopening the pipelines faces significant hurdles, as the U.S. and EU sanction Nord Stream, making any restart illegal unless President Trump waives or softens sanctions—a move that would become harder if Democrats win control of Congress in next midterm elections. A U.S. official noted that a deal is unlikely in the medium term. Meanwhile, Dmitriev met U.S. energy department and treasury representatives last month to discuss potential U.S.-Russia energy initiatives, and he plans to meet the leadership of Germany's far-Right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party early next year to discuss selling Russian gas again.

➡️ Germany and other European countries are expected to strongly resist reopening Nord Stream, as Berlin's economy and energy ministry stated that Germany has found alternatives to Russian gas and that any reopening requires government approval. Critics in Germany, such as politician Michael Kellner, condemned the talks as a "dirty deal" where Americans and Russians share profits. The discussions also coincide with the Nord Stream sabotage case, where German prosecutors formally brought charges against a former Ukrainian army officer alleged to have been responsible for the 2022 undersea explosions.

“We are ready to help [with a settlement] and continue to explore any possibilities for a diplomatic settlement. We believe that this would be good for Russia and Ukraine, but for now it looks difficult to achieve,” he told Greece’s Kathimerini.

➡️ Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov subsequently said Moscow agrees with Rubio’s position that there are currently no prospects for a diplomatic settlement in Ukraine, TASS reported.

⚡️🇺🇸 — The Pentagon said the execution by firing squad of Nidal Malik Hasan, the Palestinian-origin former US Army psychiatrist who carried out the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, will be broadcast live. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the execution is scheduled for December 3 and: “we’ll make sure people can watch it, and that the event will be public.” Military-law experts said Hasan could resist execution and file a habeas petition in civilian court, potentially significantly delaying it. Hasan, then an Army major, entered a medical building where soldiers were queued for immunizations and deployment clearance and opened fire with a laser-sighted handgun, killing 13 people. — AFP/France 24

➡️ During the trial, it was revealed that Hasan had spent weeks preparing the attack, including being shown how to change his pistol’s magazine and later seeking advice at a gun range outside Austin on rapid, precise reloading; soldiers testified that his rapid reloading made the shooting extremely difficult to stop. Investigators recovered 146 shell casings inside the building and dozens more outside, where Hasan fired at the backs of soldiers fleeing toward the parking lot.

Hasan said he acted to prevent them from going to Afghanistan and killing fellow Muslims; a military judge barred him from presenting that as a defense. Representing himself, he made almost no effort to defend himself, told jurors the evidence would show he was the shooter and described himself as a soldier who had “switched sides.”

➡️ Hegseth said the military has not executed a service member by firing squad since World War II; the last military execution was on April 13, 1961, when Army Pvt. John Bennett was hanged.

⚡️🇮🇷 — Iranian Defense Ministry spokesperson said the country is undergoing a “step-change” in developing new weapons, military equipment and technological support for the armed forces, with the defense establishment adopting a more urgent operational posture after the “12-day war”: senior command has sharply intensified strategic oversight, requiring progress reports on military programs every 30–45 days, while new specific military capabilities/products have been presented and validated at the highest command levels as instruments of national “power creation.” — IRIB interview

➡️ The armed forces, private sector and non-military industries are jointly pursuing 50 strategic “dual-purpose” technology initiatives, including aviation manufacturing and diesel-engine production for railways and industrial plants, with the stated aim of civilian “spillover” from military technological advances, expertise and experience into industry and the wider economy.

➡️ The ministry said it maintains a continuous, resilient logistics/industrial support chain to prevent weapons and equipment shortages across the armed forces and security corps; key military capabilities and strategic resources are deployed in protected areas deemed secure against potential hostile attacks. Under central strategic commands, including the General Staff and Khatam al-Anbiya Central HQ, the armed forces maintain full operational readiness for future aggression or hostile action, with the spokesperson pledging a force “decisively greater and tougher” than before.

⚡️🇮🇷🇶🇦 — The Acers, an oil and chemical tanker, was struck by several projectiles north of Qatar late Wednesday, causing casualties, according to maritime intelligence firm Vanguard and the U.K. Maritime Trade Operations agency, raising trader fears that shipping strikes are spreading beyond the Strait of Hormuz and threatening tanker operations that have helped sustain oil flows despite the conflict. Iran’s involvement in the Acers attack remains unconfirmed, although Iranian state-linked media have reported Iranian forces striking several tankers around Hormuz in recent weeks. The Wall Street Journal reports Iran’s ability to target shipping has also improved.

➡️ Oil prices jumped Thursday as the attack increased fears of further Iranian disruption of Hormuz shipments: Brent rose ~5% to >$105/bbl, while preliminary tracking data show oil flows through Hormuz and linked routes declining in recent days. Deeper-Gulf attacks could disrupt U.S.-backed arrangements that helped oil exports recover toward prewar levels last month, including “shuttle runs” carrying crude from Gulf terminals through Hormuz to vessels waiting outside for transfer and onward delivery. Analysts say Tehran is using increased shipping attacks to break the Hormuz stalemate and pressure Washington ahead of November’s midterm elections; Alice Gower of Azure Strategy said Tehran seeks sustained pressure on global energy markets because higher oil prices increase the conflict’s economic costs for Washington and its partners, while Iran is conscious of Trump’s sensitivity to elevated prices and the political implications of an unresolved conflict before the midterms.

➡️ Kpler reported 10 tankers struck inside Hormuz from Sept. 28-Oct. 4, the highest weekly total this year versus a previous high of six, while Iran loaded no crude onto ships in September; Iranian officials have warned they intend to challenge neighbors’ shipping arrangements, including by closing routes near Oman’s coast. Eurasia Group analysts expect continued Iranian shipping attacks to undermine U.S. gains rather than deliberately seek full-scale confrontation, while Gower warned that without a credible diplomatic pathway, both sides risk becoming trapped in an increasingly dangerous escalation cycle.
