Mid-Continent Liberty Festival - MidFest.info - An unorganized non-event for fellowship with kindred spirits seeking a stateless society. Please stay on the topic of Midfest.
Hey! I'm from VA and live just over the stateline in WV. Anarcon is my jam. Just wanted out to both of you @ElStone that Anarcon is not in WV but close, and not in Southern VA but in the north tippy top of the triangle in Gore, VA.
I'm also looking for land/like minded in the area but I didn't know there are owners long on land and short on community... @ElStone can you connect us?
Yes! It’s in southern VA. Wanted to go last year but didn’t line up to schedule. I’ll try to go this year - it’s Sept 26-28. Thanks for the reminder

Just my 2 cents but breaking the financial prison put on people by statism is far more important than isolating at a homestead hoping like minded folks will join you.
If you do the former you have the ability to travel the world freely with few restrictions, the latter seems like a potential time/ value sink IMHO unless you already have the community and infrastructure to enjoy such.
Anarcon of WV is a festival just like midfest where you might find locals into your goals also.
That PFF meetup should be a good place to network and talk with landlords.
Joel has about 5,00,000% +/- more advertising reach for tenants than we do so I'd suggest talking to landlords who were in a similar spot as you for how they're doing in their search for tenants to work their land with them.
Joel can likely pay nothing, literally with internships and due to his reach get tenants but with 0.002% of his reach it's completely different.
Oh that’s good to know! I’m iso opportunity in VA 90 mile radius from DC. Thanks!

I’ll be wearing my Seeker shirt to the Exit & Build Land Summit at Joel Salatin’s Polyface Farms in 2 weeks 🐖 Anyone else here going? I know it’s far for MidFesters but it’s in my home state of VA.

It's unfortunate Mike failed to trust more of us to continue his legacy here but good for us leaders of other groups to learn from his mistakes. Jack will hopefully become owner here once Mike's account times out and is removed a year or so after he last connected to telegram. At that point new owner can improve redundancy of *trusted* admins to avoid this issue.
I stopped using session due to lack of interest. Telegram is far better reach than session IMHO but perhaps FB, X, Insta, and more widely patronized platforms would be the better direction over briar, session, matrix, and platforms with less than 1% of their audience.
I maintain a few groups here so I plan to use it until they ban me. Signal is best where Groups need no owner or admin, for example https://signal.group/#CjQKIJcE6FTaxotZsE4nrSlWsRq5itRw5FaPUvI4dcMkoCrcEhBucfRVCSvHQXksSyO5Tit6 where the owner died and it still is vibrant, block trolls and never see their posts
Why would you ask that? Are left-handers allowed? Are professional wrestlers allowed? What does that have to do with voluntaryism and agorism? The only ones not allowed are those who advocate violence and coercion against peaceful people.

Why should we have a ruler from thousands of miles away...
Why don't you just go away and leave us alone?
Why do you stay where you're not wanted?

I like midfest better for a lot of reasons, it's $30 for 3 nights, I think Anarcon was $40-50 for 2 nights

Last year I paid $25-60/hr or so for labor at my homestead and got less than half of what I was looking to hire for done due to lack of people who want to show up and work for numerous days for $35 +/-. Although NH is a very wealthy state...
Every homestead I've visited, 3+ last month, was short on labor and long on land.
There just isn't enough people who want to live rural and work at rural locations with voluntaryists IMHO but if people want to go solo on homesteading there's unlimited options for that as far as I've seen.
These centralized platforms with their complete lack of privacy and/or leaky metadata are better for reach, I agree. But Session, SimpleX, Element, Briar, XMPP are all better for privacy in communications with those who essentially are already connected.
The latter is almost moot though, due to "client side scanning" technology being implemented by Big Tech at the OS level. Unless all communicating parties are using GrapheneOS or some flavor of Linux (responsibly), your data is compromised pre-encryption and post-encryption. Not to mention quantum computing and the required quantum-resistant encryption that is necessary to protect against those kinds of threats.
But like I say, anyone serious about their privacy should create their own personal threat model, and whatever that is, employ your defense as such.
I think what happened was Mike's Telegram account was abruptly banned the better part of a year ago. Why/how/who...I don't really know. He was the Owner of this group with full abilities to manage it.
Telegram gave Mike an option to potentially reactivate his account if he provided a cell phone number; he chose not to do so and therefore abandoned his Telegram presence (gladly). After 6 months of account non-usage, Telegram supposedly permanently blocks accounts from reactivation. So there is no coming back for Mike as the Owner of this group if that is the case. And because his ban happened abruptly without any forewarning, Mike had no opportunity to shift ownership of this group to me (or anyone else).
It's true that @Squawk7500 is an Admin, but he is an admin with limited abilities (as he stated). If there is a way to convert an Admin to an Owner of a group that was abandoned by the original Owner, that might be worth exploring with the Telegram people. The Owner has the highest abilities to grant x, y, z abilities to members.
However, Session is where it's at these days for Mike. And that Session group for MidFest is the focus. In fact, the Session group was just updated to the new v2 protocol which adds increased security and additional features. If folks want in on that, please send me your Session ID privately and I will add you.
We don't have a ruler at all. Mike is a trusted friend of mine and he asked me to admin this group when he set it up, but he orphaned it by leaving Telegram. I know you know what that means, but for those that don't, it means that I just appear as an admin and I can't add any other admins or make changes to the group. So I'm really just another member of the group.
All i can do is ban spammers when I see them, but i can't even add or modify any anti-spam bots.
I don't think Mike cares to have this group on Telegram at all, since he has the Session group.
If he did want it active, he should have transferred ownership to @colljrdam, who lives in the area.
There's a 0.5% chance someone will donate, Lot's of naive, greedy people get on telegram every day. I've known a couple people who donated to similar investments and the whole Ian Freeman case was due largely to the audience Clifford is seeking.
Читать полностью…Also, a big THANK YOU for everyone who spent time, energy, and resources to come and trade value last weekend!
I traded over $2,000 of value with people there and appreciate the agorism tremendously.
Seeing the industrious youth embracing the art of agorism was quite heartening!
Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed without any love to face a harsh world that has moved on and left him behind to wallow in his misery!
However,
I'm sure we all miss the days when Mike ruled over us participants in this room here!
He had such judicious use of moderation to govern our chats such that we could participate without fear of such negativity seen lately. There was no need to seek out telegram government to moderate participants because Doc was in charge of that! But then the telegram government came for him and so many other group leaders including my last account/s here and Mike gave up his control over this room and stopped supporting telegram.
I like @Squawk7500 on a personal level, sharing much of his philosophy but he just doesn't govern us as well as @DocBarber am I right?
Fortunately, we have a private group to discuss relevant issues under the joint leadership of Jim, Ingrid, and Randy who seem to enforce the spirit we all love about the mid continent liberty festival.
PM to connect on signal, that has the features we desire in this room.
