An analyst from Goldman Sachs on the reasons for Trump's current policy towards Russia:
"Some people think that Trump is afraid of Putin, so he does nothing. Unfortunately, he has virtually no leverage.
1️⃣The idea of secondary sanctions on countries buying energy resources from Russia, with tariffs of 500%. Which countries are these? India, China, the EU. Trump is already waging a tariff war there, and tariffs 5 times lower are very frightening for the markets, especially UST, for the stability of which the stable genius is very (rationally) worried. It's not even funny.
2️⃣Supply of long-range missiles without restrictions on strikes against Russia. Yes, probably a few hundred missiles at sensitive places in the vicinity of Moscow could make Putin more accommodating. But the US has nothing in that range. The US does not have land-based ballistic systems like the Iskander.
