My early Vegas days were also my know-nothing libertarian days, so my reaction to the Venetian story was, Gosh that's mighty racist.
Industry friends told me bluntly: it's just business. Blacks bring drugs and prostitution into the club, so if you don't want drugs and prostitution, you keep out the blacks.
There were vendors that didn't shun this sort of business; notable from memory was one called Moon at the top of the Palms casino. Very dusky staff and patrons. They ended up being part of a large drug bust involving employees, and paid a $1m fine for it, if I recall.

When I arrived in Las Vegas twenty years ago, there was a pretty clear delineation and soft segregation: niggers largely stuck to Fremont and the Orleans, and security would apply a little pressure as needed to keep the undesirables out of the nicer south Strip properties.
Nightclubs in particular were vigilant about keeping them out. One ingenue I knew got a job as a promoter for a venue at Venetian, and was surprised that a group of black women she had solicited was turned away at the door later that night.
The women were turned away on the pretext of, "These IDs look fake," but the young promoter was told: "Blacks don't get in unless they're tens." This was around 2008.
Totally different today. The security staff are mostly some version of nog or mutt, and the clubs from a walk-by appear to be full of them as well.
