Hello my fellow healthy and well-adjusted Telegram enjoyers.
It is now October, and over the course of September I have been putting effort into a certain personal goal of mine which I will not go into detail about, except that it has involved what is essentially learning how to learn (don't put your kids through public school). Now I have some insight to share.
Chiefly, don't go so fast. For much of my life, I have only concerned myself with whatever I could immediately grasp. Obviously that was self-sabotage, but everything is clear in hindsight. You need to build a foundation, first and foremost, and it is necessarily a tedious process.
There are entire books on this subject, like A Mind for Numbers by Barbara Oakley, but the most basic, foundational habit for learning is as follows: when approaching a new subject, go at it hard for a short burst of time, with every iota of focus you can muster. The length of that burst of time, circumstances depending, but usually 20 minutes at least while also not too long. Then stop and allow your mind to wander, with the information you took in present in your mind but not in focus. Do this once or twice in a day, then sleep on it and do it tomorrow. And don't memorize facts, understand processes. See them in action and consider why it's done like that.
There's obviously a lot more to the skill of learning, but most of it is an expansion of this method. When building a foundation of knowledge, start with the smallest iotas, mentally chunking them based on their main concepts and contexts. To build an airship, you first need to understand basic algebra. Only after that, will you have access to things like gas physics and structural design.
This is true for anything, as straightforward as working out or as nebulous as theology. You aren't a retard if you can't grasp something instantly, and you aren't a loser if it takes you a while. You will end up with a deeper and more intimate knowledge of a subject when learned this way, than somebody who seems able to crunch and power through it effortlessly. Those "gifted and talented" kids are all burned-out deadbeats today, or set in life but dead inside.
