A court in Russia’s second city St. Petersburg has placed a military cadet in pretrial detention after he allegedly murdered a hearing-impaired woman whose hearing aid he mistook for espionage equipment, local news outlet 78.Ru reported on Tuesday.

Nikolay Tikhonov, 28, apparently met the victim, who has been named simply as Nadezhda, in a St. Petersburg nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning where they danced and drank together before he invited her to go home with him, according to 78.Ru.

Once back at his apartment, Tikhonov reportedly noticed that Nadezhda was wearing a device that emitted sounds, which he mistook for a recording device. Recalling that she had asked him about his military service as well as his studies at the military academy, Tikhonov concluded that Nadezhda was a “Ukrainian spy”, 78.ru continued.

According to investigators, Tikhonov started punching and kicking her and then called the emergency services, explaining that he had invited a woman home, but she had “turned out to be a Ukrainian or god knows who”, according to Telegram news channel Baza.

Tikhonov reportedly told the emergency services that he planned to kill Nadezhda, before hanging up. She subsequently died of her injuries, and the device Tikhonov took for recording equipment did in fact turn out to be her hearing aid, which Nadezhda had to wear due to her impaired hearing, 78.Ru said, adding that Tikhonov was believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the fatal attack.

Freedom of speech is one of the most valuable liberties in the Western world, perhaps the most valuable. Yet, there are now various attacks on freedom of speech, often under the pretext of countering disinformation.

While celebrating freedom of speech as part of a democratic society, the West is increasingly engaging in a form of “quiet censorship,” Enkvist says. Labeling opinions or ideas that challenge the power establishment as ‘disinformation’ is one way to restrict a free and open debate, and one that is being used in an increasingly more aggressive way.

Self-proclaimed ‘disinformation watchdogs’ that offer media and businesses assistance in sorting out ‘disinformation’ in reality have activist agendas, Enkvist says.

She highlights the Global Disinformation Index (GDI), an organization purporting to provide “transparent, independent neutral disinformation risk ratings across the open web.”

The GDI rates websites (in a “neutral, independent, transparent index”) on their risk of “disinforming readers.” The GDI is financially supported, Enkvist says, by the EU, the British and American governments, and—George Soros:

‘Disinformation’ is used by the GDI not only to refer to deliberately false information, but also to factually accurate but controversial speech that the establishment disapproves of. “Countering disinformation” is now serving as an excuse to “silence political opponents,” Enkvist writes, typically on topics like “immigration, social gender, and climate.”

The area is separate from the overall general population unit, but is common/shared living space, sources tell NBC New York.

Combs was denied bail last week as he awaits trial on the federal charges. The music mogul has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty at his arraignment. He has remained in custody in New York City since his arrest Sept. 16 at his Manhattan hotel by federal agents.

A major international bank has launched a new payment monitoring system to track customers’ purchases as part of a crackdown on the general public buying meat and dairy products.

London-based NatWest Bank launched the “carbon footprint tracker” to supposedly tackle the alleged “climate crisis.”

The British multinational bank’s system monitors customers’ spending and scolds customers when they buy meat and dairy products.

The tracker issues alerts that warn customers their food purchases are causing “climate change.”

As part of NatWest’s smartphone banking app, users receive messages when they are caught buying traditionally farmed produce.

They are also urged to “swap out” items such as beef and milk with “alternatives” such as “non-dairy” or “plant-based” products.

The app pressures customers to take part in “veggie Mondays” and warns they should be “choosing (mostly) plant-based” diets to fight “global warming” by reducing their so-called greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The alert messages also recommend eating “vegetarian at home” to reduce your “carbon footprint” by 40kg.

By “swapping out beef,” the app alleges an individual could reduce their “carbon footprint” by 12kg.
