North of Ireland - 3rd March 2026

Foreign national Luis Dos Martins Mariano, who repeatedly raped an unconscious woman in Tyrone, has still not been sentenced, 54 weeks after pleading guilty.

His friend, another migrant from East Timor, Alcino Soares, who also raped the woman, attempted to claim in court that he did not understand English and there was a delay sourcing an interpreter. There was also a barristers strike.

No deportation orders have been issued.

Families from East Timor were brought in to work in meat factories.
