The Supreme Court has reined in a lower-court order that allowed a watchdog group wide-ranging access to records of the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency.
The high court’s majority said a judge’s directive allowing Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington to examine DOGE’s recommendations for cost savings at executive branch agencies was “not appropriately tailored.”
In a two-page order Friday, the Supreme Court said such access was not a proper way to resolve an ongoing dispute about whether DOGE is a federal agency subject to the Freedom of Information Act or operates as a presidential advisory body that does not have to share its records with the public.
“Separation of powers concerns counsel judicial deference and restraint in the context of discovery regarding internal Executive Branch communications,” the court’s majority wrote.
All three of the court’s liberal justices indicated they disagreed with the decision, but none provided an explanation of her views.

Iran’s most sensitive nuclear infrastructure lies far beneath the surface and cannot be destroyed by a single strike, UN nuclear watchdog chief Rafael Grossi told the Financial Times, as he warned of the risks if negotiations over the country’s nuclear program fail.
“The most sensitive things are half a mile underground — I have been there many times,” FT quoted Grossi as saying. “To get there you take a spiral tunnel down, down, down.”
Grossi said a breakdown in talks would likely lead to conflict. “The Iranian thing has incredible potential to become catastrophic. If there is a failure in negotiation, this will imply most probably military action,” he said.

The National Institutes of Health is soliciting proposals for HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s autism data project, pledging an initial $50 million for efforts to help identify causes of the neurological condition, per a funding opportunity posted to the agency's website.
Some health experts are concerned that the initiative will allow HHS to pick and choose information that supports certain theories, including the debunked idea that vaccines cause autism.🙄
NIH said it is looking for proposals that leverage existing data and possibly generate new specifics aimed at answering questions including which emerging or "understudied" factors may contribute to autism and treatment options.
The agency said it will likely grant between 10 and 25 awards of up to $5 million each for 24- to 36-month projects.
The data can't be directly derived from animal testing but can pull from existing information on toxicity data and other concerns that are derived from animal studies.
The notice states that all data used should comply with privacy and confidentiality requirements, federal and state laws and other policies governing secure data usage.
NIH said it's seeking applicants with expertise analyzing autism-related data from universities, nonprofits, business and state and local governments.

The controversial lawyer, who once defended both Trump and the late pedophile, told Daily Mail the disgraced socialite's 'excessive' 20-year sentence should be commuted for her immediate release – with a full pardon possibly following.
One ultra-close source to the Maxwell family told us last week: 'It's not a bad idea to ask President Trump for a pardon. He knew her. He's probably got views about whether she's guilty or innocent.'
Now, 86-year-old Dershowitz – who was on Trump's legal team fighting the 2020 impeachment charges – says: 'Certainly she should get a commutation. The sentence was way, way, way in excess of anything she was alleged to have done.
'She was in part a victim of Epstein. The fact that Epstein died made her a primary target and caused an excessive sentence to her. Some executive clemency is very much warranted in her case.'
Maxwell's freedom-campaigning brothers Ian, 69, and Kevin, 66, have not so far petitioned for a pardon or commutation, the family source told us. But they have not ruled out the possibility. If they want to makes those appeals, Dershowitz said petitions should be sent to the White House Counsel's office and the Department of Justice.
'And they should sent them to both places,' he emphasized. 'I believe there will be a lot of people who would support some executive clemency for her.'
