π₯A Washington Post report says the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a group working to simplify federal rules, is joining forces with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to get rid of more than 50 gun regulations by July 4, 2025. Insiders told the Post the plan started with 47 rulesβa wink at President Donald Trump being the 47th presidentβbut itβs grown bigger since.
Robert Leider, the ATFβs new top lawyer and a big Second Amendment supporter, is leading the charge, taking over after the old lawyerβs job was made a political gig. Justice Department spokesman Chad Gilmartin told the Post, βATF is focused on cutting red tape that hassles law-abiding gun owners and making sure agents go after criminals and gangs, not bothering folks at home in the middle of the night.β
