This week, the House is voting on the GENIUS Act which lays the groundwork for a layered Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) where Americans interact with stablecoins but behind the scenes there are the functional surveillance capabilities of a CBDC.
The bill as written does not expressly ban a CBDC and does not protect self-custody. Self-custody means that you control your own money, not a third party.
On Jan 23rd, President Trump signed an executive order on digital financial technology with two important clauses:
1. People will maintain self-custody of digital assets.
2. Banning agencies from establishing a CBDC in the U.S. or abroad.
The GENIUS Act does not follow President Trumpβs executive order because it does not ban a CBDC.
House Leadership did not allow any amendments banning a CBDC. This should NOT be tolerated.

Republican lawmakers have blocked a move that could have forced President Donald Trump's administration to release the files on the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein's death and investigation.
All but one of the GOP members of the House Rules Committee voted against a Democrat amendment that would have allowed Congress to vote on whether the files should be made public or not.
The amendment, which was first put forward by Californian Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna, was voted down 5 to 7 on Monday evening.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement got into a spat with a Democratic congressman who they accused of doxing an agent who had been harmed by rocks.
"Yesterday in Carpinteria, I witnessed ICE agents using unnecessarily aggressive and militarized tactics against local farm workers and peaceful protesters," Rep. Salud Carbajal, D-Calif., wrote on X last week. It was appalling. This is not how we keep our communities safe."
Carbajal said that he had a right as a member of Congress to oversee federal operations, but was denied entry.
ICE alleged that Carbajal was part of a group of violent protesters who tried to disrupt agents who were executing a search warrant and then doxed an agent who got injured.
