Special Attorney Ed Martin was just spotted in Brooklyn inspecting Letitia Jamesβ multi-family residential property that is at the center of a federal mortgage fraud investigation.
This comes about a week after Martin was appointed by AG Pam Bondi to run two mortgage fraud probes into Letitia James and Sen. Adam Schiff.
Grand juries in Virginia and Maryland are currently weighing criminal indictments for both after allegations they falsified property records to secure favorable loans.
Our optimism for the Trump-Putin meeting in Alaska has not been rewarded with a ceasefire, but that was always a long shot.
No Ukraine representation at the meeting made any significant development impossible, and the statecraft we saw early on (Lavrovβs sweater, chicken Kiev for dinner, the B2 flyover) dampened the possibilities for any big announcements.
Each side is still posturing and playing diplomatic games.
But our optimism was rewarded with the meeting happening at all; the two sides spent hours together and parted with the prospect of future meetings being on the table. Thatβs far more positive than anything we saw between Putin and Biden, whose diplomats and officials were sometimes stranded in the air or had the lights turned off while meeting, if the meeting even occurred at all.
Communication is key if we are to see a ceasefire, let alone peace, achieved, and we at least have that.
I posited around this time last year that many would be surprised when Trump increased support for Ukraine. That he will rearm Ukraine.
That notion was received with some disbelief and mockery.
Understandably so, as the influence of people like Mearsheimer and McGregor found acceptance on the right, wild conspiracy theories about Ukraine were popularized, and hatred for Biden plus billions of handouts to Ukraine fed a growing disdain for both.
But I think that it remains a strong possibility that Trump will rearm Ukraine significantly via selling arms to them and to Europe, via pressure on Europe to arm Ukraine themselves, and via non-combat support operations.
I think that because all three of those things are already taking place under Trump.
He can increase them as a means of a) bringing Zelenskyy to the table and b) leveraging Putin to agree to a ceasefire.
That, combined with sanctions on Russia, ends the war.
But both sides have to agree to end it.
Right now neither is willing to agree to the terms availableβbut they are willing to talk. Direct dialogue was objective One, and at least part of that direct dialogue happened. There is now the possibility for more dialogue in the coming week.
Russia often behaves as a mafia state, and Ukraine is hardly different. They share a nexus of corruption.
Both countries are run by mobsters and groups of mobsters.
Trump is experienced in communicating with and dispatching, even catching, such mobster types.
