ANOTHER WINπ₯: The Supreme Court, in a 5-4 ruling Thursday, enabled the Trump administration to cancel hundreds of millions of dollars in National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants linked to diversity initiatives.
The decision partially lifts a Boston-based judgeβs ruling that declared the cancellations illegal and blocked the administration from moving forward.
Five of the courtβs six Republican-appointed justices sided with the administration: Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett.

With this order, I am announcing βAmerica by Design,β a national initiative to improve experiences for Americans, starting by breathing new life into the design of sites where people interface with their Government. It is time to update the Governmentβs design language to be both usable and beautiful. This effort will be facilitated by a new National Design Studio and by a new Chief Design Officer. The Chief Design Officer will help recruit top creative talent, coordinate with executive departments and agencies (agencies), and devise innovative solutions.
It is the policy of my Administration to deliver digital and physical experiences that are both beautiful and efficient, improving the quality of life for our Nation. Towards that end, the National Design Studio will advise agencies on how to reduce duplicative design costs, use standardized design to enhance the publicβs trust in high-impact service providers, and dramatically improve the quality of experiences offered to the American public.

The Trump administration will suspend public White House tours due to the construction that is scheduled to start soon on a new ballroom, multiple Congressional offices told ABC News Thursday.
Spokespeople for the official websites for several of these members said they were told by the White House that this pause would start in September and tours could be postponed "indefinitely."
The offices gave various reasons for the pause on tours, including "construction projects," "extensive renovations" and "because of construction on the new White House ballroom."
All tours of the White House are scheduled through a visitor's member of Congress.

An election technology firm allegedly overbilled Los Angeles County for voting machines used during the 2020 election and funneled the extra cash into a βslush fundβ for bribing government officials, federal prosecutors say in a criminal case against three company executives.
Smartmatic, a U.K.-based voting system company, had bribery embedded as part of its business model, prosecutors allege in a Florida federal corruption case against company co-founder Roger Alejandro PiΓ±ate Martinez and two other company officials.
Prosecutors do not indicate who benefited from the alleged pot of Los Angeles County taxpayer money.

U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro has announced the end of pursuing felony charges against people carrying rifles or shotguns in the nation's capital.
D.C. law made it illegal to carry rifles or shotguns in the nation's capital, except in limited cases for permit holders.
Pirro's office makes clear that guns must be registered and that those with a criminal record prohibiting them from possessing a firearm and-or are accused of using a shotgun or rifle in a violent crime will be prosecuted, according to Fox News.
Pirro said that the new policy is based on guidance from the Justice Department and the Office of Solicitor General.

A Trump-aligned legal group founded by White House aide Stephen Miller filed Freedom of Information Act requests Thursday targeting a Biden organ transplant program that critics warn could be open to abuse.
The requests from America First Legal went to the Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and the Health Resources and Services Administration. At issue is the Increasing Organ Transplant Access Model, a six-year mandatory program finalized in December 2024 and set to take effect in July 2025, which aims to expand access to kidney transplants but has drawn criticism from Trump officials who warn it may be vulnerable to outside influence.
The model builds on earlier payment experiments, testing whether financial rewards and penalties can improve care and expand access for Medicare and Medicaid patients.
Trump officials and allies, including America First Legal, argue the system risks distortion by outside interests β a charge that prompted AFLβs FOIA requests as part of a broader investigation.
They cited in part recent findings from an HRSA-led probe published earlier this year. That investigation suggested third-party groups or for-profit organizations "may have unduly influenced the IOTA Model"β though their exact role or the extent they may have done so is unclear.
