JUST IN: The White House on Thursday selected a top deputy of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to serve as acting head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention after a clash over vaccine policy ended in the departure of several agency leaders, according to two people familiar with the decision.
The selection of Jim OβNeill, currently the deputy secretary of HHS, as interim leader of the CDC, potentially clears a path for Kennedy to continue his efforts to overhaul federal vaccine policy after the agencyβs prior leader, Susan Monarez, balked at his requests.
As HHS deputy secretary, OβNeill helps oversee the agencyβs sprawling operations and serves as a key aide to Kennedy. He will continue working as Kennedyβs deputy while helming the CDC, according to the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss personnel decisions.

My bet is he intentionally highlighted it in order create a national conversation about the matter prior to taking certain actions later. Actions that could include either slashing the number of student visas afforded to Chinese students, if not cancelling them altogether.

I believe our current course of events, understanding what would have occurred had there not been an intervention (on our behalf), resides in the gray area between these two options of recourse.

"DOJβs refusal to enforce anti-corruption laws betrays the public trust and will create lasting harm to Americansβ faith in the integrity of government officials," Democrats wrote in their letter to Bondi and Patel, which was first obtained by NBC News.
The lawmakers said that the changes made by Bondi and Patel are coming in the βmidst of an unprecedented wave of corruption in the Trump Administration,β citing, amongst other issues, Trumpβs involvement with cryptocurrency, his acceptance of a luxury jet from a foreign government to use as a new Air Force One and pardons he issued to donors.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., are leading the probe into the changes at the Justice Department and FBI. Eight other senators and more than 50 members of the House signed the letter.
The lawmakers request that Bondi and Patel answer a series of questions about the role of the Public Integrity Section and the FBI's public corruption efforts to address their "grave concerns."

BREAKINGπ₯: President Donald Trumpβs administration has asked a military base outside Chicago for support on immigration operations, the base said Thursday, signaling a push to expand its law enforcement crackdown to other cities.
The Department of Homeland Security has asked Naval Station Great Lakes for βlimited support in the form of facilities, infrastructure, and other logistical needs to support DHS operations,β said Matt Mogle, spokesperson for the base 35 miles (56 kilometers) north of Chicago.
He said no decisions have been made on the request and that the base has not received an official request to support a National Guard deployment.
The request shows the Republican administrationβs desire to move beyond Washington as it ramps up immigration operations. Trump has threatened to deploy National Guard troops to Chicago and other Democratic-led cities after he called up troops to target crime, immigration and homelessness in Washington.
