NEWπ₯: The U.S. Justice Department is in talks with Homeland Security Investigations about transferring the sensitive voter roll data it has collected from states for use in criminal and immigration-related investigations, according to government documents seen by Reuters.
The voter registration data was gathered over the last several months by the DOJ's Civil Rights Division, which has sent requests for voter registration-related information to at least 24 states. Of those, the division requested a complete list of all registered voters from at least 22 states, according to a tracker maintained by the Brennan Center for Justice and letters reviewed by Reuters.
Homeland Security Investigations, part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, intends to run the voter roll data against other information in its law enforcement databases for use in criminal and immigration probes, documents show. DHS is undergoing a sweeping transformation to become the main hub for vetting domestic intelligence.
Details about how the data will be shared with HSI are still being ironed out, but at least some government lawyers believe the data collected by the Civil Rights Division can be lawfully transferred to HSI because it would be used for civil and criminal investigations, the records show.

Democratic lawmakers on the U.S. Senate Banking Committee have demanded that Stephen Miran pledge to resign from his job as chief White House economic adviser before the Republican-controlled panel takes any more steps to advance his nomination for a seat on the Federal Reserve's Board of Governors.
Miran said at his confirmation hearing last week he had been legally advised that he need only take an unpaid leave from the White House's Council of Economic Advisors because the Fed job he is seeking only runs through the end of January, and "that is what I would be taking."
The Democratic senators on the panel noted that his term could last longer, depending on the time it took to confirm a successor, and said the dual role created a potential conflict between his duty as both a central banker and an adviser to President Donald Trump.
"It is ludicrous to contend that you could exercise independent judgment regarding monetary policy and financial regulation," a majority of the panel's Democratic members said in a letter that demanded Miran commit to resign his White House job by September 8.

In Laissβs case, authorities allege that he voted in 2020 in both in Pennsylvania and in Florida.

π₯Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr said in an interview published Monday that he is willing to penalize major media companies if he and President Donald Trump believe they are "out of line."
The Wall Street Journal described Carr as a maverick, saying he has embraced Trumpβs "showman instincts" to hold broadcasters accountable. While previous FCC chairs were often reluctant to rein in major companies, Carr said he would pull broadcast licenses from any outlet he believes has engaged in misconduct against the "public interest."
"Broadcast licenses are not sacred cows," Carr told the outlet.
Carr, who has been with the FCC since 2017, said the agency is "fully aligned with the agenda that President Trump is running."
He said Trump has set the tone for the governmentβs approach to media companies, stating, "President Trump ran directly at the legacy mainstream media, and he smashed a facade that theyβre the gatekeepers of truth."

NEW: The House Oversight Committee has released another tranche of files related to Jeffrey Epstein on Monday night, which includes a message from former President Bill Clinton in the late pedophile's infamous "birthday book."
The surprise document dump by the GOP-led panel came hours after Epstein's estate turned materials over to House investigators, pursuant to a congressional subpoena.
Among the documents released by the committee is the reported book compiled by Epstein accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell for the late pedophile's 50th birthday.
