EAEU’s zone of free trade with other countries to encompass around 3.5 billion consumers in foreseeable future

🌐 In December 2023, the EAEU signed a free trade agreement with Iran, and negotiations are ongoing with Egypt, the UAE, and Indonesia. Talks are also beginning with Mongolia, with the Indian direction on the horizon.

Andrey Slepnev, Member of the Board (Minister) for Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission, shared this information at the Strong Ideas for a New Time forum.

📊 The Union’s mechanisms offer positive prospects, with trade between member states growing by nearly 10% in the past year, and mutual settlements in national currencies exceeding 90%, the Minister said.

🌍 According to him, the most promising direction for mutually beneficial dialogue is the Global South.

📌 Representatives from the Russian government and business, as well as President of the “House of Africa” Serge Fokas Odunlami and President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia Robert Agee, participated in the discussion.

🇷🇺 🇮🇩 The Free Trade Agreement between Indonesia and the Eurasian Economic Union may be signed in the near future. Negotiations are progressing actively. Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Lyudmila Vorobyeva said this in an interview with TASS news agency.

“Three rounds have already taken place. The next round will be in March. According to the Indonesians, they are very interested in completing the process as soon as possible and announcing the signing of the agreement,” she added.

The Italian-Russian Chamber of Commerce has launched a system that allows Russian member companies to pay for Italian goods allowed for import to Russia in rubles. President of the Chamber Ferdinando Pelazzo reported this to RIA Novosti.

💳 The system enables the Сhamber to pay for Italian goods in rubles and then transfer the funds to Italy from their account in a third country. The testing phase will last for about three months. Afterward, the Сhamber will evaluate the results and decide whether to implement the mechanism for all Russian companies.

Asian countries remained Russia’s main trading partners in 2023, with their share in trade increasing to nearly 70%. This follows from the Russian Federal Customs Service data analysis by RIA Novosti news agency.

📊 Russian exports to Asia reached $306.6 billion (+5.6%), while imports from the region totaled $187.5 billion (+29.2%). Europe’s share decreased to 23%, primarily due to a 68% reduction in Russian exports there. Imports also declined by 12.3%.

📈 The largest export growth from Russia was in Africa, with a 42.9% increase.
