⚡️ Article by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, “International Cooperation in the Arctic: Challenges and Opportunities,” published on Arctic.ru

📰 Read in full

✍️ On 19 August, a landmark event took place in Arctic shipping. For the first time, a container ship from China arrived at the port of Murmansk via the Northern Sea Route, a vital part of the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor. In collaboration with our international partners this represents the start of a new phase in the development of Russia’s Arctic region, which accounts for at least 10 percent of the country’s GDP and is home to more than 2.5 million of our citizens.

In this regard, I would like to share a number of considerations on how we assess the current state of affairs in the Arctic and how we plan to develop international cooperation there.

***

Russia and international partners in the Arctic

• The Foundations of the Russian State Policy in the Arctic for the Period up to 2035, approved by President Vladimir Putin, focus the efforts of all government bodies on improving the quality of life for the population of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, promoting economic growth in its territories, protecting the environment and fostering mutually beneficial international cooperation. <...> Foreign policy priorities in high latitudes have been enshrined in the currently effective Concept of the Foreign Policy of the Russian Federation of March 31, 2023.

• In the Arctic, Russia is seeking to preserve peace and stability, reduce the level of threats to national security, and create favourable external conditions for the country’s socio-economic development. We are open to interaction with all constructively minded foreign countries displaying reciprocal readiness to put these ideas into practice.

• The countries that cooperate closely with us in the Arctic include, first and foremost, China and India. <...> There are prospects for interaction in the Far North with Brazil, Indonesia, Iran and other #BRICS countries.

Challenges for international cooperation in the Arctic

• Preserving the Arctic as an area of peace and cooperation meets the interests of the entire international community, and Russia is undoubtedly interested in this as well.

• Meanwhile, there are those who do not share this point of view. How else can one explain the fact that NATO countries, as well as the Alliance as a whole, are driving the region towards militarisation and creating hotbeds of international tension there? <...> NATO is conducting large-scale military exercises involving non-regional countries and introducing new components of its command-and-control system.

• Such military activity in the Far North poses a direct threat to Russia’s security. <...> NATO and other Western countries make no secret of their true motives, openly declaring their intention to turn the Arctic into a new front for opposing the development of Russia and its like-minded partners.

• One manifestation of the West’s anti-Russian policy has been the disruption of previously effective mechanisms of multilateral cooperation in the Far North. <...> The Arctic Council, established almost 30 years ago, on September 19, 1996, remains the only functioning intergovernmental format. Russia is ready to resume the full-fledged work of the Arctic Council, provided that all parties engage in good faith and take into account the legitimate interests of every participant.

The future of international cooperation in the Arctic

• A glance at the world map makes it clear that Russia has been, is, and will remain a leading Arctic state. <...> The strategic importance of the Arctic to our country’s national interests and security will also continue to grow.

• In our economic activities, we will continue to proceed from the understanding that the Arctic maritime areas form an integral part of the World Ocean.

• Russia’s foreign policy in the Arctic will remain comprehensive and pragmatic. We support the Arctic’s development as an integral part of the broader Eurasian space of security and cooperation.

⚡️ Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rodion Miroshnik:

On August 26, the Kievsky District of Donetsk was attacked with Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG missiles. Eight people were injured, including two children.

According to the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, the district was struck with British-French long-range air-launched Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG cruise missiles.

The main strike hit the area around the Donetsk City shopping and entertainment center. A girl born in 2016 and a woman born in 1973 sustained moderate injuries. Also injured were a teenage girl born in 2010, a woman born in 1947, and four men born in 1987, 1981, 1977 and 1949.

As soon as the British PM spoke of sharing the technology behind these missiles with Kiev, they were used against civilian targets.

❗️ Ukrainian terrorists behave like drug addicts – once they get their hands on something, they rush to use it, usually in the most dangerous way possible for those around them.

⚡️ Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rodion Miroshnik:

ICRC representatives visited Wildberries facilities in the Leningrad Region targeted by Ukraine.

Delegates of the International Committee of the Red Cross (#ICRC), together with experts from the Russian Red Cross, assessed the humanitarian impact of drone strikes carried out by Kiev’s armed groups against civilian facilities belonging to Russian marketplace Wildberries (#WB) in the Leningrad Region – a WB warehouse in Shushary and the WB Krasny Bor complex.

In both cases, Ukrainian forces used long-range drones equipped with high-explosive fragmentation and incendiary warheads. Each attack lasted between 1.5 and 2 hours, with swarms of strike drones circling the facilities and methodically carrying out targeted strikes aimed at inflicting maximum damage on the company and destroying as much civilian merchandise as possible.

❗️ During the visit, ICRC experts were able to verify that there were no military facilities either at the warehouses or in their vicinity. They also spoke with company management and employees who had been at work when the attacks took place.

Since mid-July, 28 Wildberries facilities have been deliberately targeted by Ukrainian militants. The attacks have resulted in the deaths of 10 people and injuries to 128 others.

⚡️ Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rodion Miroshnik:

💬 Mines disguised as logs have been discovered in the Zaporozhye Region. Ukrainian militants are using them for remote mining.

The disguised mines were found in rear areas of the Zaporozhye Region. Ukrainian drones have also been recorded dropping them in places frequently visited by civilians.

Such explosive devices are virtually indistinguishable along roads, paths and forest belts. They are fitted with fuses triggered by changes in the magnetic field, causing immediate detonation when a car, motorcycle or person carrying metal objects approaches.

❗️ The use of such mines constitutes a direct violation of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons, which prohibits disguising explosive devices as harmless everyday objects.

⚡️ Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rodion Miroshnik:

💬 Over the past week, more than 400 civilians across Russian regions, including 21 children, suffered as a result of Kiev’s use of attack drones. The vast majority of these UAVs were supplied to the Kiev militants by Western sponsors – either fully assembled or as kits for local assembly.

Kiev’s forces launched more than 500-600 attack drones of various types against civilian targets every day.

The highest numbers of civilian casualties from Kiev’s attacks were recorded in the Belgorod Region, the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, and the Zaporozhye and Kherson Regions.

❗️ On August 17-23, 410 civilians suffered as a result of shelling by Ukrainian neo-Nazis: 364 people, including 16 minors, were injured, while 46 people, including 5 children, were killed.

Over the seven-day period, Ukrainian militants fired at least 7,462 munitions at civilian targets on Russian territory.

Russian Embassy in Australia

The Embassy took note of the latest chain of events fueling anti-Russian sentiment in Australia.

One of the links in the chain was the arrest of 27-year-old Russian-Australian national Vladimir Teslov, who has been charged with “attempting to engage in foreign interference”. According to AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett’s statement, the police detained a Russian citizen who did not present any threat to Australia. Actually, this action was taken in the interests of a foreign nation – Ukraine. The AFP “will allege” Mr Teslov’s conduct “created a risk to the safety and security of Ukrainian military personnel”.

These personnel are well-known for their vicious attacks against civilian targets in Russia, killing children, committing terrorist acts and Nazi-style atrocities in the Russian territory, torturing, maiming and murdering innocent civilians. All of these are not mere allegations, but verifiable facts.

Some Ukrainian and Australian commentators have sought to associate the Teslov case with allegations of “intensifying Russian espionage”. Others speculate about the link between the arrest and “the social media disinformation war” by unnamed “pro-Russian groups” aimed at “dividing the community, creating confusion”.

Thus, pretexts are being created for raising yet another wave of spy mania and anti-Russian hysteria in Australia, dismissing any alternative views as “propaganda”, as well as evading facts and answers to the key issues related to the Ukrainian conflict and its roots. The matters in question are the revival and spread of neo-Nazi ideology and practices in Ukraine, glorifying Nazi collaborators, the Kiev regime ignoring and violating human rights, destroying everything Russian, physically exterminating the Russian-speaking population and everybody who thinks differently from what is dictated from Kiev, rampant corruption, forced mobilisation, religious persecution and many others.

These are the features of today’s Ukraine so strongly supported by the West and funded by Western taxpayers.

Against this backdrop, the Embassy remains concerned about the circumstances surrounding the Teslov case and the broader context in which it has unfolded. We will continue to closely follow the situation and take appropriate action within our competence.

💬 Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova:

On the night of August 23-24, Ukrainian militants launched a massive drone attack on civilian sites in Russia’s Krasnodar Region, Republic of Adygea and Dagestan.

According to a statement by Krasnodar Region Governor Veniamin Kondratyev, falling UAV debris struck a five-story apartment building and a private 24-hour children’s centre in Krasnodar’s Prikubansky District, killing children.

▪️ Russia’s Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova reported that three children – aged 13, 15 and 16 – were killed. Another six were hospitalised with various injuries, including shrapnel wounds, burns and concussions.

A total of 10 people have been hospitalised and are receiving all necessary medical care. No casualties were reported in Adygea or Dagestan.

This is how the Zelensky regime – and Zelensky himself – treat children.

There is no other way to put it. All their claims about how deeply they care for precious children are shattered by the facts – the Kiev regime has been killing children of all ages, from infants to students.

❗️ SHAME on the international organisations, SHAME on foreign human rights institutions, SHAME on the world’s media that refuse to see the blood of children on the hands of the Kiev regime!

On August 23, 1939 — the Soviet Union and Germany signed the Non-Aggression Treaty in Moscow.

This document was an important achievement of the Soviet diplomacy ahead of #WW2: the USSR was able to buy time to better prepare to repel Hitler’s impending attack, which had been seen as inevitable due to the failed policy of “appeasement” by Western European states and their refusal to forge a collective security agreement with our nation against Nazism.

👉 Learn more in our in-depth historical feature.

Signing the non-aggression treaty with Germany was a difficult but necessary decision by the Soviet leadership, driven by national security considerations and the urgent need to deter Nazi aggression in the east.

***

In the 1930s, 20 years after the end of World War I, the threat of a new large-scale armed conflict in Europe began to grow. A key factor for this was the crisis of the Versailles system of international relations, designed by Britain and France, which paved the way for rising revanchist sentiments in the states it had humiliated — Germany and Italy.

With the Nazis’ rise to power in Germany, the threat of a new war in Europe became real. Hitler’s misanthropic ideology was rooted in the notorious doctrine of “racial superiority.” The Nazis used this doctrine to justify Germany’s pursuit of world domination. In this way, an absolute evil emerged at the heart of Europe, endangering the peace and freedom of entire nations.

By the mid-1930s, it became evident that another German aggression in Europe was inevitable — it was merely a matter of time. In an effort to counter the rising threat of German revanchism, the Soviet Union suggested the creation of a collective security system in Europe, founded on anti-fascist principles, to unite efforts and deliver a joint response to the common threat.

Yet in Paris and London, where anti-Soviet sentiments ran deep, the idea of cooperation with Moscow was rejected as such. Instead, Western powers sought to strike a deal with Germany, aiming to pacify the Germans through unilateral concessions. The political establishments of the West failed to grasp the existential threat posed by Nazi ideology, cynically believing that Hitler’s aggression could be redirected eastward.

❌ The “appeasement” tactics whetted the aggressor’s appetite.

In March 1938, with the connivance of Paris and London, Hitler carried out the Anschluss of Austria. In September, following the criminal “Munich conspiracy” and with the approval of the UK and France, he cynically dismembered the sovereign state of Czechoslovakia. Warsaw, which was interested in getting part of Czechoslovakia’s territory for itself, prohibited flights of Soviet aircraft to render aid to Czechoslovak army. Already a de facto accomplice of Hitler, Poland had supported every single foreign policy move of the Reich.

A new war in Europe became inevitable.

Thus, “appeasement” policy ended in total failure. Attempting to sate the Nazis’ insatiable ambitions, the Western powers failed to restrain the aggressor or thwart its criminal plans.

☝️ The Soviet Union remained the only European power still striving to organise collective resistance against Nazi Germany.

In the spring and summer of 1939, the USSR initiated consultations with France and Britain in Moscow. However, the negotiation process failed to yield practical results — the Western powers that until the last moment hoped for a compromise with Hitler, engaged in secret talks with Germany behind the Soviet Union’s back.

The Soviet diplomacy ran out of chances to build a collective security system in Europe. Moscow also had to take into account the Japanese factor — the hostilities on the Khalkhin-Gol that began in May 1939. The Soviet leadership could not afford a war on two fronts.

By August 1939, several European nations had concluded non-aggression pacts with Hitler. The Soviet Union was the last major power to follow the suit. As a result, our country gained valuable time to prepare for a clash with the world’s most powerful army at that time.

Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department of International Organisations Kirill Logvinov:

▪️ On August 19, 2003, a bomb attack on a hotel in Baghdad killed 22 humanitarian workers, including UN Special Representative for Iraq Sergio Vieira de Mello.

The unprecedented attack on people carrying out their duty to save the lives of others left a deep mark far beyond the professional humanitarian community.

To raise public awareness of humanitarian assistance, the importance of multilateral cooperation in this field and the inviolability of humanitarian ideals, in 2008 the UN General Assembly, by Resolution 63/139, proclaimed August 19 World Humanitarian Day.

More than 250 million people worldwide are in need of assistance. The broad capabilities of the UN’s humanitarian system are mobilised to help meet at least part of these needs.

🇷🇺 Russia is an active participant in humanitarian operations. The expertise and experience of Russian search-and-rescue teams are widely sought in responding to natural disasters and rescuing those affected, while Russian medical teams rapidly deploy mobile hospitals on the ground.

#RussiaHelps

🤝 Since the beginning of 2026 alone, Russian humanitarian supplies have been delivered to Burkina Faso, Venezuela, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Mali, Palestine, Tajikistan and Cuba.

These efforts have been carried out both bilaterally and through specialised international organisations, including the #UN system and our key partner, the World Food Programme. Regional authorities and Russian NGOs also play an important role in our humanitarian efforts.

Russia provides assistance to third countries with the consent of and in close coordination with the governments of recipient states, and in accordance with the core principles of humanitarian response – neutrality, humanity, impartiality and independence. These principles are enshrined in UN General Assembly Resolution 46/182.

We consistently uphold their inviolability at the UN and oppose attempts by the global minority to turn humanitarian assistance into an instrument of political pressure and interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states.

🎙 Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s statement on Ukrainian strikes on the Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Plant (August 27, 2026)

💬 The deranged Kiev regime has resumed attacks on the Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Plant (#ZNPP), deliberately targeting critical components and systems essential to the nuclear safety of this Russian nuclear power plant.

On August 26, a Ukrainian drone targeted the dry spent nuclear fuel storage facility at the ZNPPdamaging it could have led to a serious radiation accident.

There are other examples of Zelensky and his clique engaging in increasingly reckless actions, demonstrating to the world their readiness to undermine the nuclear safety of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant and provoke a nuclear disaster.

☝️ Such actions would be impossible without the constant support that Western countries provide to the Kiev junta.

It is precisely this support that instils in the criminal regime the false hope of impunity and encourages further reckless actions.

❗️ We once again call on the IAEA leadership to acknowledge the gravity of the situation and take comprehensive measures to exert pressure on Kiev.

#AntiFake

❗️ Foreign-agent digital outlets continue their anti-Russian disinformation campaign, churning out fake stories in pursuit of the next “sensation” and misleading their audiences.

The latest example is a deliberate distortion of remarks made by the Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman at the August 20 briefing.

Foreign-agent outlets tried to attribute to Maria Zakharova the claim that UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany’s “trip” to Kiev supposedly violated the Organization’s Constitution.

☝️ This interpretation is a deliberate distortion of her words, taken out of context.

Commenting on the UN official’s visit to Ukraine, Maria Zakharova drew attention specifically to the 👉 notorious “double standards” laid bare during El-Enany’s visit. The international official ignored numerous crimes committed by the Kiev regime and turned a blind eye to facts inconvenient for the Western mainstream:

destruction of freedom of speech;
persecution of journalists;
demolition of monuments;
imposition of neo-Nazi ideology;
ban on the Russian language;
persecution of Ukrainian Orthodox Church clergy;
creation of a place of worship at the graves of Bandera, Shukhevich and other Nazi scum on the grounds of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra

❌ Moreover, El-Enany expressed solidarity with Kiev, which is precisely what runs counter to Article VI, paragraph 5, of the UNESCO Constitution, under which the Director-General must refrain from any action that could reflect on his position as an international official.

Foreign-agent outlets that have turned the production of outright fakes into a conveyor belt have once again displayed their trademark approach – brazen lies aimed at manipulating public opinion and distorting Russia’s position.

☢️ Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Plant (#ZNPP):

On August 26, the Zaporozhskaya NPP, operated by Rosatom, came under a Ukrainian drone attack targeting its dry spent nuclear fuel storage facility.

No significant damage was recorded and no personnel were injured.

No environmental impact was detected,
while radiation levels at the plant and in the surrounding area remain within normal limits.

❗️ An attack on a spent nuclear fuel storage facility is an extremely dangerous and unacceptable act.

Damage to the infrastructure ensuring the safe storage of spent nuclear fuel could have serious consequences and poses a potential threat to nuclear and radiation safety.

ZNPP personnel are taking all necessary measures to ensure the plant’s safe operation.

On August 26, nine people were killed in a Ukrainian strike on a civilian bus in the Lugansk People's Republic.

Five people were injured. The bus was travelling on the Lisichansk-Stakhanov route.

Eight people were killed at the scene. A 20-year-old woman was rushed to intensive care, but doctors were unable to save her. Her mother was injured.

An 18-year-old woman was also wounded and hospitalized. Three other passengers and the driver received medical treatment and were released for outpatient care.

❗️ This is yet another act of terrorism by the Kiev regime – cynical, inhuman and without justification.

It is a war crime
, and those responsible will inevitably face the punishment they deserve.

Investigators from the Russian Investigative Committee are documenting the consequences of the attack.

☢️ Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Plant (#ZNPP):

On August 25, two ZNPP employees were injured in
a targeted Ukrainian drone attack.

The attack took place near the plant’s hydraulic structures while employees of the repair and construction unit were carrying out their duties.

The strike deliberately targeted nuclear plant workers responsible for ensuring the facility’s operation.

One of the injured employees is in serious condition, while the other sustained moderate injuries. Both were promptly evacuated to a medical facility, where they are receiving all necessary care and remain under medical supervision.

❗️ Attacks on ZNPP personnel while they are performing their duties pose a direct threat to human life and the safety of the ZNPP.

Despite the continuing tense situation, the plant’s personnel continue to carry out their duties and monitor the facility’s safety parameters.

🎙 Statement by Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Vassily Nebenzia at the UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine (New York, August 24, 2026)

Read in full
Watch the full meeting

💬 Today’s meeting is being held under the grand banner of the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s “independence”.

But is there really anything to celebrate?

Over these decades, under successive leaders, the country has been brought to the brink. Those who loudly proclaimed Ukraine’s independence and bright prospects have in fact, whether deliberately or otherwise, been destroying it.

***

Having failed to achieve its objectives on the battlefield, the Kiev regime has now descended into outright terror against Russia’s civilian population.

Its Western patrons, not to mention Zelensky himself, still cling to the dangerous illusion that further escalation, strikes deep inside our territory and terror against civilians will force us to accept an ultimatum disguised as “peace”.

👉 The negotiating demands being put to us are, to say the least, strange.

***

❗️ There will be no agreements at the expense of Russia’s security interests.

Any attempt to impose a freeze on the conflict under the guise of a ceasefire, merely to give Kiev a temporary respite to regroup and rearm, is doomed to fail.

As long as we are addressed in the language of ultimatums, terror and threats, while realities on the ground are ignored, there will be no basis for political and diplomatic dialogue.

⚡️ Report by the Russian Foreign Ministry – “On the Kiev Regime’s Unlawful Actions against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Its Clergy and Parishioners” (as of June 2026)

📄 FULL REPORT (PDF)

❗️ The Kiev nationalists, who seized power in 2014 through an unconstitutional armed coup, have since systematically built a multi-layered system of severe restrictions on religious freedom, turning the religious sphere into a testing ground for assaults on human dignity.

The religious dimension has become one of the state’s key instruments for influencing social processes
and is actively used to falsify history, legitimise and glorify Nazism, and suppress dissent, as well as secular and religious opposition.

Mass violations of fundamental human rights and freedoms have become a defining feature of the Kiev regime’s years in power.

***

👉 Zelensky and his entourage are fragmenting the country’s religious landscape, shaping relations with religious organisations and believers according to the degree of their tolerance for the misanthropic ideology imposed by the authorities.

Within this framework, sweeping administrative and legal measures are being implemented to weaken the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (#UOC) to the greatest possible extent in public life, up to and including the dismantling of its governing structures.

The report provides numerous documented examples of discrimination, along with public statements by Ukrainian officials at various levels openly spelling out the ultimate objectives of this campaign – to eliminate the country’s largest religious organisation, force its parishioners and clergy to join the so-called “Orthodox Church of Ukraine”, which is controlled by the authorities and interested business circles, and expropriate UOC property, religious objects and holy sites.

The report’s sections cover:

• Ukraine’s discriminatory laws targeting the UOC
• Unlawful actions by Ukrainian special services and law enforcement agencies against the UOC
• Illegal mobilisation of UOC clergy
• Actions by Ukrainian local authorities and self-government bodies against the UOK
• Seizures of UOC churches and illegal re-registration of communities
• Pressure exerted by national and regional authorities on major UOC monasteries
• Hate speech, unprovoked aggression and violence against UOC clergy and believers
• US influence on the evolution of the church crisis in Ukraine
• Response of the international community

***

The controlled chaos created by the Kiev regime within Ukrainian Orthodoxy has for years enabled the authorities, the OCU and radical groups to carry out forcible seizures of monasteries and churches, illegally re-register religious communities, cultivate hate rhetoric, and perpetrate unprovoked aggression and violence against the clergy and believers of the canonical Church.

Members of radical nationalist groups are enlisted to carry out such reprisals, with assurances that they will escape legal responsibility when breaking the law. Ukraine has developed and tacitly legitimised an entire system of backroom arrangements that encourages violations of the fundamental rights and freedoms of believers and clergy.

Religious persecution has now not merely intensified – it has become fully systematic, a fact acknowledged even by many Western politicians.

One of the reasons behind the current catastrophic situation facing Orthodox Christians in Ukraine is Western support for the Kiev regime’s religious policy, first and foremost from the US. This issue is also examined in the report.

Despite the vast number of documented cases of persecution against the canonical Church and clear violations of Ukraine’s international legal obligations in the field of human rights, these violations have still not received due attention from universal multilateral organisations, including the UN and its leadership, which refrain from issuing detailed reports on the matter or responding firmly, limiting themselves to routine references to the problem.

☢️ Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Plant (#ZNPP):

On August 18, Ukrainian militants carried out a deliberate strike on a staff transport stop in Energodar, where employees of the ZNPP were waiting for a bus to take them to work.

▪️ The attack resulted in 17 casualties, most of them ZNPP employees. One nuclear plant worker was killed. Three of the injured are in moderate condition. All those injured are receiving the necessary medical care.

This crosses every line.

Those targeted were civilians. They were not involved in the fighting or taking part in hostilities. They were simply on their way to work – to carry out their professional duties and help ensure the safe operation of the nuclear power plant.

A deliberate attack on ZNPP personnel is an attack on the very people responsible for nuclear safety. The safety of the plant, Energodar and the vast surrounding area depends on their work.

The Kiev regime has once again shown that it is prepared to put civilian lives and the safety of a nuclear facility at risk.

❗️ Nuclear plant workers must never be made targets. Under any circumstances.

⚡️ Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova's statement on the disruption of IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi’s visit to the Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Plant and Energodar (August 18, 2026)

💬 We express our deep concern over the aggressive and malicious actions of the Kiev regime, which continues its provocations against the Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Plant (#ZNPP), practically on a daily basis attacking the plant and its personnel and creating a real threat of a nuclear disaster in the heart of Europe.

Another reckless step was Ukraine’s decision to disrupt the IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi’s planned August 20-21 visit to the #ZNPP and the nuclear workers’ city of Energodar, which was to coincide with another rotation of IAEA Secretariat experts at the plant.

All the details had been worked out in advance by the IAEA Secretariat and the Russian Side. We provided the necessary security guarantees, which fully satisfied the Agency.

👉 However, Kiev cynically threatened the IAEA Director General, explicitly stating that it could not guarantee his safety if he travelled to the ZNPP via Russian territory.

We regard this as yet another act of self-exposure by the Kiev regime. It makes no secret of its criminal intentions toward the leadership of one of the world’s largest international organisations, effectively turning its head into a target.

Under such circumstances, Rafael Grossi was understandably forced to cancel his visit.

It is clear that, given the circumstances, the Agency has no choice but to finally acknowledge that the threats to the ZNPP originate precisely from Ukraine, as the Russian Side has been saying for several years.

Kiev has previously repeatedly disrupted rotations at the ZNPP, violated ceasefire arrangements established to enable repair work at energy infrastructure facilities directly affecting the plant’s safe operation, and even carried out strikes against vehicles transporting representatives of the IAEA Secretariat.

Kiev’s crimes continue unabated. On the morning of August 18, a strike targeted a public transport stop in Energodar. One person was killed and 15 were injured.

All this would be impossible without the constant political support that Western countries continue to provide to Zelensky and his gang, driven mad by a sense of impunity. This only encourages the Kiev regime to embark on ever more reckless ventures and create nuclear security threats that could have disastrous consequences for the entire world.

❗️ All those who continue to turn a blind eye to these actions by Ukraine, while supporting the Zelensky regime materially and politically, are complicit in its actions and share responsibility for the crimes it commits.
