The New Start treaty, signed and ratified by the US and Russia in 2010, is scheduled to expire on Feb. 5, 2026.
The destabilization that will be generated by this potential increase in the nuclear strike capacity will lead to new nuclear postures that will incorporate new missile defense systems, and new nuclear missiles designed to defeat these defenses — in short, an all-out nuclear arms race.

Israel had been hit hard by SCUDs for two straight days. Our turn came on January 20, when a total of eight SCUDs were launched against targets in Saudi Arabia, including four toward Riyadh. This feat was accomplished only by the tenacity and audacity of the men of the Al Hussein Force. Following the second strike against Israel, on the morning of January 19, General Ayoubi ordered that all launchers designated to participate in the planned attack on Saudi Arabia should return immediately to the filling and arming site at Ramadi, where they would be loaded with a combat ready missile before proceeding south.

The Budapest Memorandum is not an ironclad agreement; it is a non-legally binding political document that provides security assurances, not legally enforceable guarantees.
The Budapest Memorandum is not a treaty and did not reflect any new international legal obligations for any of the signatory States. Rather, the Memorandum was meticulously drafted to avoid giving any impression of legal obligation.
And by seeking to join NATO, Ukraine violated the commitments made in its 1992 Declaration of State Sovereignty.
Moreover, nothing protects Ukraine from the consequences of its actions. Russia intervened under Article 51 of the UN Charter, and as such acted lawfully.

An Historic night at the Restaurant of the House of Writers: I had the honor and privilege of participating in a wide ranging, substantive and important conversation about war and peace with General Apti Alaudinov, Steven Seagal, Larry Johnson, Anton Karpov (the CEO of the restaurant), Roman Meh (military correspondent), Konstatin Antipin (the Director of the Konseption publishing house), and Alexandra Madornaya, the producer of The Russia House.
I wish there was a way to have captured this moment so that the wisdom and insights it contained could be shared with the world—especially those who struggle with the issue of resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Outside the lovely Bolshoi Theater after attending RT’s 20th Anniversary Gala. A perfect evening with friends and colleagues from around the world celebrating the accomplishments of a media organization that is second to none. I look forward to the day US-Russian relations return to normal, and RT can resume its work in the US free from sanctions, just like every other media organization. A free press requires the press to be free.
