THE MAN BEHIND THE MEDALS
For years now I have been asked by numerous people to interview Deyan Beric, a Serbian military officer now serving in the Russia Army.
Fighting under the nom-de-guerre Deki, Beric became a legend in the early years of the Donbas conflict, serving as a sniper and intelligence officer whose exploits made him one of the most heavily decorated soldiers of the conflict. His story has been told through a documentary film, "A Sniper's War." In this interview, I had the chance to see past the uniform and medals, and delve into the essence of the man himself.

In this special edition of the Russia House, I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing Yana Lantratova, a member of the Russian State Duma.
Earlier this week the President of the European Council, Ursula von der Leyen, asked President Trump to help “make sure the children of Ukraine” are returned to their families. President Trump responded in a way that gave credence to the allegations put forward by Ursula von der Leyen. But these allegations are lies. The truth rests in the heroic actions of people like Yana Lantratova, who risked their lives to rescue children trapped in homes and villages shelled by the Ukrainian army, their families killed, their tiny bodies broken and bleeding. Yana saved their lives. Russia saved their lives. This is the truth. And this interview is essential for telling this truth to the American public.

Russia-U.S. Spacebridge and Putin-Trump Meeting: Two Steps Toward Dialogue
On June 18, 2025, the historic Spacebridge Russia-USA. Citizens summit 2025 connected citizens - reviving the tradition of Cold War-era people-to-people diplomacy for the 21st century. Against this backdrop, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump's meeting in Alaska sent a powerful signal: direct communication remains possible even in turbulent times.
Common Threads:
1. Grassroots & Government Moving Together
While the Spacebridge proved public appetite for cooperation persists beneath political tensions, the leaders' handshake demonstrated that top-level dialogue can still occur when needed.
2. Alaska's Evolving Legacy
From Russian territory to U.S. state to neutral meeting ground, this symbolic location continues rewriting its role in bilateral relations.
3. From Words to Works
Civil society participants exchanged concrete proposals on the Spacebridge, mirroring the presidents' focus on deliverable outcomes rather than empty rhetoric.
Different scales, same imperative: In an era of strained ties, these parallel initiatives prove that maintaining channels - whether between citizens or commanders-in-chief - isn't just symbolic but strategically vital.
The Road Ahead
While tangible results remain pending, the mere continuity of communication through both formal and informal channels offers cautious hope. As with the original Spacebridges that humanized "the enemy" during the Cold War, today's exchanges keep the door ajar for better relations.
