🔥🇷🇺 Russia’s new laser tech to redefine aerospace manufacturing
The new technology, designed for parts made of titanium and heat-resistant alloys, may enable the production of stronger, more corrosion-resistant components and pave the way for next-generation aircraft engines.
👉 At the core of the technology is a method known as laser shock peening, where the surface of a component is treated with powerful laser pulses through a layer of water, causing micro-explosions that deform the surface without heating it.
All this results in the creation of compressive stresses in the surface layer, something that halts the propagation of cracks.
📈 During tests, components treated with the new technology showed a significant increase in fatigue strength and durability as compared to those manufactured by conventional methods.
The technology, developed by Moscow Aviation Institute engineers along with colleagues from several other Russian institutes, is set to form the foundation of the first domestically made laser shock processing system for materials, due to be put into operation in 2027.

🚨🌍 What are alternatives to Strait of Malacca in case of closure
The Strait of Malacca, one of the world's largest chokepoints, carries roughly 30% of global maritime oil flows, making it a potential flashpoint for a new energy crisis.
What are the alternatives to the strait in the event of closure?
Maritime routes
Three Pacific chokepoints in the Indonesian archipelago offer longer, costlier detours:
👉 Sunda Strait (minimum width ~24 km)
👉Lombok and Makassar Straits (~20 km)
👉 Ombai–Wetar Straits near Timor (~27 km)
Northern Sea Route (NSR), a Russian Arctic shipping lane, offers an alternative path for energy shipments to Asia.
Land-based routes
▫️ Thailand Land Bridge: Proposed 90 km rail/road/pipeline link across the Kra Isthmus connecting the Indian and Pacific Oceans
▫️ China–Myanmar Economic Corridor (CMEC): Oil pipelines linking the Indian Ocean to China via Myanmar
👉Capacity: 442,000 barrels of oil per day
👉 Far cry from 23.2 million bpd flowing through the Malacca Strait
▫️ China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC): Proposed 3,600 km pipeline from Gwadar Port to China’s Xinjiang (capacity ~1 million bpd)
None of the proposed routes can presently fully replace the Malacca Strait—leaving it a critical global chokepoint.

🔥🇨🇳 China's chip self-reliance takes a giant leap forward
Beijing wants over 70% of silicon wafers used by its chipmakers to be made domestically by 2026, marking a major win in its self-sufficiency push, Nikkei Asia reports.
Here's what's happening:
🔸 30% max for foreign players — local wafers are now the default for new Chinese chip plants
🔸 China's global share of wafer capacity jumped from 3% (2020) to 28% (2025), heading to 32% in 2026
🔸 Local champion Eswin is adding 700k wafers/month this year, supplying SMIC, Hua Hong, even Micron & TSMC
🔸 Catch: Advanced chips (5nm/7nm) still need foreign suppliers — for now
Ultimately, China is locking down mature supply chains while racing to close the gap on cutting-edge tech.
The West's lane is getting much narrower.

🔥🇨🇳 China creates AI supercomputers to challenge US – report
China is building massive computing clusters that link 10,000 or more AI accelerator chips, adding to faster iteration of AI capabilities and reducing model training times, the South China Morning Post reports.
Key points:
🔸 Domestic tech giants like Huawei, Alibaba, Moore Threads, and Hygon are competing to supply chips for these systems, while cities such as Shenzhen, Harbin, and Shaoguan are vying to host such clusters
🔸 The clusters are being commercialized for government, finance, healthcare, education, and private tech company internal AI operations
🔸 Analysts expect cluster sizes to scale dramatically, potentially reaching 100,000 to 1 million cards
China views this as a necessary step to compete with the US in AI technology.

🚨🇪🇺 Is ‘Asian alternative to NATO’ quietly emerging?
With the Middle East in crisis and traditional alliances faltering, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) offers a soft-power approach to security.
Here's what makes CICA different from NATO:
🔸 28 members include both Iran and Israel — enemies sitting at the same table
🔸 Lacks military intervention mandate but provides an "architecture for de-escalation"
🔸 Members include China, Russia, India, UAE, Egypt, Qatar, and Palestine
🔸 Focuses on dialogue & confidence-building over collective defense
As the UN strains and NATO reels, Asia is quietly building its own security framework — not through bombs, but through talking.

🇵🇰🤝🇺🇿 EXPLAINED: What is QTTA and why is Pakistan inviting Uzbekistan?
The Quadrilateral Transit Trade Agreement (QTTA) was signed in 1995 by Pakistan, China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Tajikistan joined in 2017.
👉 Why? To move goods from Central Asia to Pakistani ports via China, bypassing Afghanistan, with whom Islamabad has a tense relationship.
It gives landlocked Central Asian countries reliable sea access and Pakistan a stable trade corridor.
📄 Problems: The Karakoram Highway is closed in winter due to the risk of avalanches. Different railway gauges and unsynchronized customs also slow things down.
Reality: In April 2026, a test container from Kyrgyzstan reached Karachi via China — proving the route works.
