Adding on to HaV’s post, regarding pagan coherence…
Firstly, the Eddic Poems, which make up our most important sacred texts, are backed up by hundreds of years of continuity. For example, images of Sigurd sucking his burnt thumb on 5th Century bracteates, images of Wayland on 5th Century Frankish coins and 7th Century picture stones from Gotland, and parallels of Eddic poems in other Germanic literature. For example, stanzas of the Hávamál have parallels in The Wanderer, the Hákonarmál and the Fóstbrœðra Saga. Things like these show that our Eddic myths were consistent for hundreds of years across the Germanic world, before they were collected and written down.
Secondly, many tenets of the moral structures and worldviews of the pagan religions of Europe have parallels in other Indo-European religions, most notably Hinduism, the many branches of which form the oldest continuously practiced religion in the world; that’s consistency. While many sects have changed over the centuries, many have retained the original Vedic rituals and beliefs.
Lastly, assuming the original poster is Christian, it’s ironic that he talks about coherence, as the second half of the Bible is Jesus ripping apart established moral structures and traditions, not to mention Christian history is plagued by centuries of sectarian infighting, and many churches around the world now ignore and contradict Biblical teachings to keep the tithes flowing in.

The moment we grasp a stone firmly in the hand, we have grasped the soul of the stone—it is the soul we can feel. It is always possible for the body to be sucked up by the soul and vanish away, to emerge into the light again some other time. The spiritual can leave the material to reveal itself under other forms, but when it does appear and lets itself be seen, heard, and felt, then the manifestation takes place in virtue of that nature the soul possesses. However far away it may go, it still has matter bound up in it. To a certain degree, it is possible to speak of soul and body, but the distinction does not go so deep that it is possible to wrench the one from the other."

The other shows that Yamnaya are the most common steppe barrow builders, with iron age Scythian peoples building fewer. Medieval Turkic tribes preferred to reuse old barrows
Blot at the harrow for Disir and Vanir. Yngui weoh by @Wessexwoodcraft
Читать полностью…Tonight is the full moon of Blot month. Bede says the English traditionally sacrificed cattle to the gods at this time but he didn't say which ones.
Professor Richard North argues that Bede's use of the Latin vanis is a rendering of the Old English cognate of 'Vanir' which would be Waene. Not everyone agrees with him but if you do then it is a time to blot to Ingui Frey, Easter/Freyja etc.
The importance of sacrifice at this time of year continued long after Christianisation in the form of St Martin's day. In France the taking of vows in the woods or at sacred spring on St Martin's day was banned in 578 AD. In Ireland people were still sprinkling sacrificial blood in their house on St Martin's day as recently as the 20th century!

1. Strawman and disingenuous as it implies Abrahamic faiths actually have a coherent moral philosophy. Answer is they don't, that can't explain a lot of topics and can't get along with each other.
2. Is this morality based on Abrahamic paradigm and understanding of ethnics? Then everything will fall flat. Or be civic morality, which is a modern invention and isn't cohesive either.
Below is my reply after being tagged in this discussion.
He knows where to find me.
He can easily read what I write or have presented in my posts and books.
I have engaged with this misunderstanding of Ethnic faith and Abrahamic usage of the word "pagan" for strawman arguments more than enough.
Everything these so-called "prophets" of Abrahamics have presented were stolen from others or self-fulfilling prophecies.
This labeling of "paganism has no structure" is ignorant at least and intentionally in denial at best.
Rome, Greece, Hittites, Sumer, Egypt, Vedics, Shintō, Persia, Buddhism, and Daoism all present cohesive world view and structure.
For Celto-Germanics or Slavics who didn't have a written record until later, their oral tradtions presents a concise world view.
Most Indo-European faiths have a common world view, moral structure, and cosmology when compared.
Acting as if they don't is disingenuous and the typical strawman argument presented by Abrahamics with an agenda.

The modern mind, due to Plato's influence, finds it hard to discuss the Germanic equivalent of the soul without distinguishing it from the body.

Читать полностью…The Helgakviða Hundingsbana II shows us the kind of intercession our ancestors would have asked for, and expected, from the Gods; when Dagr prayed to Odin for revenge on his father’s killer, Odin gave him his spear.
This shows us another tenet of the Germanic pagan worldview; they didn’t ask that the Gods enact revenge or strike down their enemies on their behalf, but rather, aid them in righteous actions they had set in motion.

In Bede’s Ecclesiastical History, he wrote that Blōtmōnaþ sacrifices continued post-conversion, offering animals to the Christian god instead. He noted that before the sacrificial feasts, they’d build huts from the boughs of trees around their temples which had been converted into churches; possibly a remnant of building demarcation fences around weohs.
