Feared by Lebanon Pager Explosion, Iran Bans Sales and Import of Motorola Smartphones
Iranian authorities have prohibited the import & use of Motorola mobile phones following a series of pager explosions in Lebanon. Iran had earlier banned pagers and walkie-talkies on all flights.
Although Motorola holds a less than 2% market share of Iran’s smartphone market, the ban leaves the inventory and investments of affected retailers in uncertainty. Online stores have already reacted by removing Motorola products from their listings or marking them as “out of stock.”
The decision appears to be rooted in misguided concerns over the design similarities b/w Motorola’s phones and pagers, prompting Iranian authorities to restrict American products despite the brand NOT having any connection to the original company since Lenovo's 2011 buyout of the brand's so-called "mobility division". However, Lenovo-branded laptops and other technology items are not included in the Motorola's ban in Iran.

Indonesia Bans iPhone 16 Series and Watch 10 Series.
Indonesia has officially banned Apple’s iPhone 16, restricting its sale & operation within the country because of Apple's unmet investment commitments.
Indonesian law mandates that foreign companies need to provide 40% local content to operate in the country as part of the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) certification. Apple initially pledged to invest $110 million, but has so far invested around $95 million. The shortfall of roughly $15 Million forced the Ministry to block the issuing of IMEI certification for iPhone 16 Series and Watch 10 Series
The country's Industry Minister announced that any iPhone 16 operating within Indonesia’s borders is “illegal.” He further urged consumers against purchasing the device from abroad, stating, "If there is an iPhone 16 that can operate in Indonesia, that means that I can say, the device is illegal. Do report it to us."
Apple has thus now proposed investing almost $10 Million in Indonesia. The investment will reportedly be made alongside Apple’s local supplier, Yageo Corporation, with a new factory dedicated to building accessories and components for Apple devices.

Tajikistan has banned Grand Theft Auto (GTA) and Counter-Strike, because they are worried that these games promote violent and immoral behavior, especially among young people. The interior ministry of the country said that the games have a negative impact on players, leading them to commit crimes.

Xiaomi Successfully Taped Out China's First 3nm Smartphone SoC
According to Beijing Satellite TV on October 20, Tang Jianguo, Chief Economist of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, said that Xiaomi has successfully taped out the country's first 3nm mobile phone system-level chip.
Tape-out is basically the final stage of the design process before it is sent for mass production. So it is possible that Xiaomi will launch its own 3nm chipset next year. Acc to rumours, it will perform similar to Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 & would have a 5G modem from UNISOC. It would be manufactured by TSMC on its 3nm node.
Last time Xiaomi made it's own SoC was in 2017 with the Mi 5C which was powered by Xiaomi Pengpai S1 chipset. This was an octa-core SoC manufactured on a 28nm process, with big core running at 2.2GHz while equipped with a Mali T860 quad-core GPU.

BREAKING: Google Tensor G4 Spotted on Geekbench with PowerVR GPU
In a surprising twist, an early prototype of the Tensor G4 with a PowerVR GPU instead of Mali-G715 graphics has arrived on Geekbench. Many people assumed that its the Tensor G5, but in reality its a very early tensor G4 prototype to test and compile tensor new GPU drivers ahead of it final build.
According to some Google AOSP Dev, those chip on Geekbench are just basically tensor G4 with a different NPU under TSMC. So this is just a prototype for Google and Imagination developers to test and optimize the new drivers for the IMG DXT GPU. For the Tensor G5, Google has NOT even finalized the SoC core layout yet (especially the NPU).

Vivo starts Diwali in India with an iQOO Neo 7 Pro Explosion
A twitter user claimed that his iQOO Neo 7 Pro which still has 2 months warranty left blasted under 1yr from purchase.
His iQOO Neo 7 Pro received an update and while charging it started to heat. Upon disconnecting and after just 5 mins, it exploded, thus inaugurating the festival of Diwali in India.
As usual, Vivo India denied replacing the smartphone, blaming the user only for physical damage. However, after support from twitter users, Vivo finally agreed for a new replacement.

BREAKING: Google is developing its own custom architecture for future Tensor chips
Google already has its own custom architecture called 'Cypress' but it is basically for Axion processors for datacenters.
But now, Google is also working on a custom CPU core called 'Orion' that will debut with future Tensor chips, atleast 'after' the Tensor G6. Interestingly, Google is even testing some tensor chipsets clocked at 5.1GHz & manufactured on a 3nm node, likely TSMC.
Coming to the Tensor G6, it will power the Pixel 11 series & is codenamed as 'Malibu'. Although other SoCs will already be built on 2nm chip design in 2026, Tensor G6 will still be manufactured on 3nm node (N3P) by TSMC .

Intel Explores Foundry Alliance with Samsung

Intel has reached out to Samsung Electronics to explore the possibility of forming a foundry alliance. Intel’s CEO, Pat Gelsinger, is reportedly seeking a direct meeting with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong to discuss comprehensive cooperation plans for their foundry divisions.
If an Intel-Samsung foundry alliance materializes, the two companies could collaborate on various fronts, including process technology exchanges, shared production equipment & joint R&D efforts.
Its' actually a good move because TSMC has established a monopoly and it is crazily increasing prices for its wafers, leading to increase in pricing for SoC's used in smartphones, data centers, gaming handlehelds etc. The price of TSMC's 2nm wafers is expected to double compared to 4/5nm, which may exceed USD 30,000 per wafer.

BREAKING: ARM Cancels Qualcomm's Chip Design License
ARM has given Qualcomm a mandated 60-day notice of the cancellation of a license that allows Qualcomm to design its own chips based on standards owned by Arm. If the cancellation takes effect, Qualcomm might have to STOP selling products that account for roughly $39 billion in revenue or pay for massive damages.
The current situation traces its roots to a legal dispute from 2022 when ARM filed a lawsuit against Qualcomm after it acquired Nuvia. Arm claims that Qualcomm failed to renegotiate the ALA terms post-acquisition & is demanding the destruction of Nuvia's designs that were created before the Nuvia acquisition. They can’t be transferred to Qualcomm without permission.
Qualcomm, however, argues that its existing Arm architecture license already covers Nuvia's work. That said, Qualcomm accuses Arm of anti-competitive misconduct. The trial is set to begin in December 2024 & both the companies are confident of their win.

Pixel phones banned in Indonesia even though Google doesn't sell them there officially

Companies can fulfill those requirements by either manufacturing products locally, developing software locally or setting up R&D centers. Apple shortfall of 15$ Million investment in the country & thus the Indonesian Govt. ordered a sales ban on iPhones 16 series and Watch 10 series.
However, Apple officially sells iPhones in Indonesia unlike Google. Residents needs to import Pixels in the country, still the Indonesia Govt. ordered a sales ban on a product which isn't even sold officially in the country.
However, the restriction does NOT affect tourists or local residents who wish to purchase a Pixel outside of the county & legally import it by paying taxes properly. Additionally, the authorities are considering deactivating Pixel devices that are brought into the country illegally.

After news of Google working on custom architecture for Tensor SoCs for their Pixel smartphones, Google might also be putting a custom chip in its smartwatches instead of using Qualcomm's Snapdragon Wear SoCs for wearables. The chip is code-named “NPT” (Newport Beach) and the intended release date is 2026.

Google might also be assessing RISC-V as a potential alternative as well. The other details currently remain unknown as all these news are coming from a massive leak of a Google Internal Presentation from last year, which got leaked recently. Known leaker, Kamila Wojciechowska has confirmed that the Geekbench listing of 'Google Frankel' is indeed about the Tensor G5 A0 revision chip as Frankel is the codename of the base Pixel 10.
Ofcourse its NOT the final yet as there is gonna be atleast one more revision. The previos leak about it being Tensor G4 with PowerVR GPU is WRONG because the Tensor G4 prototype had an IMG CXT GPU instead of DXT.
Thus, the G5 leaks were correct!
It will indeed feature PowerVR GPU as the Geekbench database confirmed it being D-Series DXT-48-1536 GPU by Imagination Technologies (IMG).
For the CPU part,

• 5x Cortex-A725 @ 2.86GHz

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will be clocked at 5GHz
The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 or the 8 Gen 5, codenamed "kaanapali" (SM-8850) will keep its predecessor's 2+6 configuration & will be manufactured by TSMC on its 3nm node. However, its P-cores will be clocked at 5.0 GHz, while the E-cores will operate at 4.0 GHz. Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 has its P-cores running at 4.32GHz (AB version) and E-cores at 3.53GHz
The single-core of 8 Gen 5 is expected to be above 4,000 scores in Geekbench 6. However, acc to rumours, 8 Gen 5 will likely be a minor revision while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 is expected to get some big boost.

Google’s Tensor G5 to power the Pixel 10 series next year will be designed internally by Google themselves without relying on Samsung for the bulk of the work. It will be manufactured on TSMC 3nm node process.

Sadly Google is NOT using ARM's latest X925 cores which debuted with MediaTek Dimensity 9400 recently.
TPU:
The TOPS value is 18 / 9 TOPS (INT8/FP16), making it 40% larger compared to Tensor G4 but it will be around 15% faster only. The improved TPU also comes with a few new features for Google’s developers, such as small embedded RISC-V cores to allow running operations that are not implemented in hardware, as well as support for on-device training.
GPU:
This is the MOST disappointing part of the whole G5 chip. That's NOT because Google is ditching Mali GPU, but because Tensor G5 will feature PowerVR GPU from Imagination technologies — IMG DXT-48-1536 clocked at 1100MHz.
These GPU are mostly used by UNISOC in their chips for smartphones. The only reason why Google switched to PowerVR GPU is due to virtualization support. It also supports Ray tracing, however, the GPU will just have 2 CU (compute units) only in 2025 for 1000$ flagship phone
