Introducing Claude Opus 4.8

Opus 4.8 is around 4x less likely than its predecessor to allow flaws in code it has written to pass unremarked. It has more honesty about its own progress, and the ability to work independently for longer than its predecessors.

Fast mode is available for Opus 4.8 at roughly 2.5x the speed and is 3x cheaper than before. Turn it on with /fast in Claude Code. On the API, contact your account manager to request access or join the waitlist: http://claude.com/fast-mode

Opus 4.8 defaults to "high" effort. On coding tasks, it spends a similar number of tokens as Opus 4.7’s default, but with better performance. Users can choose “extra” (“xhigh” in Claude Code) or “max,” and the model will spend more tokens to get better results.

Claude Code has a new “dynamic workflows” feature that allows it to tackle very large-scale problems. Claude can plan the work, then run hundreds of parallel subagents in a single session all while verifying output before reporting back.

Apple’s iOS 27 Siri Overhaul and AI Features Previewed in New Images

- The new Siri is planned to have a redesigned animation that pops out of the Dynamic Island (left) & a Search or Ask interface that opens with a swipe from the top of the screen. Apple is testing the idea of giving users a choice of AI services

- Apple plans to debut a dedicated Siri app for the first time that includes a list of conversations (left) & a chatbot view similar to ChatGPT

- Siri is set to be baked into the Camera app for the first time, integrating visual intelligence for identifying objects via outside AI services like Google & ChatGPT

- The Camera app is set to be redesigned to be fully customizable with an array of control options (left), while the main photo-taking interface now places controls in the top center

- A grammar checker (left) is one of a number of new AI-powered writing features Apple has planned, while the Photos app will become competitive with AI-powered editing options

Microsoft is replacing Taskbar Search with Copilot

Taskbar search is now being replaced by "Ask Copilot" which opens a floating popup that you can use to interact with Copilot, search for files, open apps, etc. It targets enterprise customers who use the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.

In tests, "Ask Copilot" is more accurate at finding local files and apps compared to the current Windows Search. However, Microsoft is working on improving the normal Search as well.

Ask Copilot is entirely optional, and won't be enabled by default. It is expected to release mid-2026, but it might change.

Motorola's "Smart Feed" has started hijacking the Amazon app to insert affiliate codes

After an app update to Smart Feed (v2.03.0070), opening Amazon opens the user’s browser and immediately redirects to the Amazon app. This only happens if the app is opened from the app drawer and not the homescreen.

The device contacts "devicenative.com", a service that places ads on phones. The URL opened in the browser is "kira-abboud.com", a website that references @kirasfashionfinds. The affiliate code being used to open Amazon is "sramz-kff-008-20", which is completely different from the affiliate codes used by @kirasfashionfinds.

To disable this behaviour, disable the "Smart Feed" app from Settings.
