They pretend to be trading company employees on Telegram and invite victims to fake business calls through fake Calendly and Picktime sites. Once connected, a multi-layered virus is downloaded that can bypass most antivirus programs and security systems. Analysts say RemotePE is built to stay hidden in company infrastructure for a long time before launching attacks or stealing money. TRM Labs reports that the Lazarus group has stolen about $577 million in crypto in the first 4 months of 2026 — that's 76% of all global crypto thefts during that time. Since 2017, they've stolen a total of $6 billion.
