🇷🇴⚔️🇲🇩 About the likelihood of Romania annexing Moldova and then attacking Transnistria, a theme often repeated in Russian-speaking circles, ambassador Vladimir Lipayev said:

"The prospect that Romania will dare to take this reckless step is unlikely, especially since it has never applied for Transnistria.

And in general, belligerent sentiments are not typical of the Romanian people - it seems to me that he [president Nicușor Dan] would only be grateful to NATO strategists if they left him alone. According to a recent poll conducted in June, the fear of drawing the country into an armed conflict ranks first, almost three times higher than citizens’ fears of their health and fear of rising prices.

Despite the fact that, as already mentioned, the society here persistently frightens the alleged “Russian threat”, the vast majority of the population does not support the idea of participating in a military clash with Russia.

But what, in my opinion, should be feared, is the military intervention in the Transnistria of NATO member states under the pretext of the provocation they organized, to which they, as you know, are great masters".

📝: This interview is interesting for a number of reasons: for one the Russian ambassador sees Romania as a pushover, a country not just easy to conquer, but a country who won't pose much resistance, being fairly confident that in case of open hostilities, there will be mutinies and uprisings.

Another interesting thing is how well informed the Russian ambassador is about Romanian politics and his observations are spot on. Moscow is fully aware of every strength and weakness in Bucharest.

🇷🇴💰⚡️ ING Bank welcomes the tax increases of premier Ilie Bolojan noting that while there will be economic pain short-term, for the medium and long-term the economy will become more resilient

ING Bank predicts just 0,3% GDP growth in 2025 compared to 0.8% in 2024 and a rise in unemployment from 5.5% to 6% and an inflation rate of 8% and estimates a 7.5% deficit for 2025, lower than the Moody's estimate.

The bank notes that the fiscal reform announced by Ilie Bolojan has recovered some trust but they warn that the risk of collapse isn't gone yet as the reform hasn't been enforced yet, with the taxes set to increase on August 1st.

ING points to political pressure from other parties, labour unions and pensioners as the biggest risk to derail the recovery of the Romanian economy.

They also mention that there is a possibility that Romanian consumers may drastically cut their expenses due to the new taxes and companies cut back on investments which will have the adverse side effect of LOWERING tax revenues due to a smaller amount of financial transactions and thus the bank emphasises the need for the state to focus on efficient tax collection rather than increase the fiscal burden

🇷🇴🚰🇫🇷🇧🇴🇷🇴📰 InPolitics | July 16th 2025: The water scandal which made a town revolt: Will Lungulețu become a Cochabamba of Romania?

[French company] Veolia, the owner of Apa Nova [the owner of the water supply and sewage system of Bucharest] says the farmers in Lungulețu, who grow cabbage and potatoes, are stealing its water. This isn't the first revolt caused by Veolia related to the usage of water. Will this town in Dâmbovița become the new Cochabamba?

The short story: today [July 16] the town of Lungulețu, not far from Bucharest, rose up in revolt after a local farmer was taken to the police station because he was watering his cabbages using the water from the Dâmbovița river. He was fined 35k RON (7000 Euros). This morning tens of farmers revolted after one of their own was fined by authorities. The authorities forbid watering cabbage crops using water from the river AND EVEN using water from the wells. They brought gendarmes and removed the personal water pumps of farmers. State company, Apele Române (Romanian Waters) says the farmers are sealing water meant to Apa Nova.

Let us recall what Veolia, the owner of Apa Nova, caused in Bolivia: in 1999, under pressure from the IMF and the World Bank, which were restricting loans on privatising public services, Bolivia privatised the water supply of the city of Cochabamba. The contract was awarded to Aguas del Tunari, a joint venture led by Bechtel (US) and indirectly, Veolia through other companies in the venture. The contract, worth at the time 2.5 billion USD, would led this joint venture administer for the next 40 years, the water supply, sewage, electricity generation and irrigation of the city of Cochabamba.

In January 2000, Aguas del Tunari doubled the tariffs and made access to drinkable water too expensive for most residents of Cochabamba. In addition, they took over alternative water supply systems and charged money for their use. The law 2029 adopted by the Bolivian government was seen as a violation of the rights of indigenous communities and farmers and their free access to water.

The protests began peacefully (...). The complaints were growing as rich neighbourhoods had access to drinkable water while the poor ones were disconnected due to the spike in tariffs. In February 2000 the protests became violent with clashes between farmers, workers, students and law enforcement. The government declared a state of siege. A critical point was reached when the Bolivian Army shot and killed a 17 year old student which galvanized resistance.

In April 2000, under public pressure and massive protests, the Bolivian government terminated the contract with Aguas del Tunari and scrapped the law 2029. The water supply of Cochabamba was returned to the state company, SEMAPA and the tariffs returned to the levels before the privatisation. "The war for water" resulted in 7 deaths, hundreds of injured and 200 arrested. It attracted worldwide attention and was even made into a movie (Even the rain) and served as inspiration for others (Quantum of Solace).

The Water War contributed to the rise in popularity of Evo Morales who was elected president in 2005 and ruled until 2019 after the Bolivian Gas War, a struggle against hydrocarbon companies who were exploiting Bolivia's oil & gas resources with little to nothing given back to the Bolivian people.

Will Lungulețu become a Cochabamba of Romania, starting a generalised revolt over the management of resources, not just the simple use of water for agriculture?

🇷🇴🪧⚡️ A supporter of Călin Georgescu blocked traffic on the A1 București-Pitești highway near the town of Bolintin with an unknown motive.

He parked his truck horizontally blocking incoming traffic. When we say an ”unknown motive” we mean to say that we don't know if he was motivated by Călin Georgescu's legal troubles, the increased taxes or something else entirely.

He was arrested by cops an hour into the ad-hoc protest and charged with blocking traffic on public roads which is punishable up to 2 years in prison (art. 339 of the Penal Code).

Edit: A spokesman of the National Gendarmerie said that there is a groupchat online with people calling on truckers to block highways across the country as a way to show their dissatisfaction with the state of things!

📝: This is the first such protest action since January 2024 when farmers and truckers protested a steep rise in insurance prices and other fuel related costs. It was also related to wider European farmers' and truckers' protests against the EU's trade deal with Ukraine which was driving them out of business.

🇷🇴🤝🧑🏿 The Bucharest City Hall has approved the "Migrant Inclusion Strategy" plan for immigrant inclusion.

What this means:

🔶 This project aims to improve the wellbeing of migrants who live in the Capital. Social and security problems will be adressed and "solved" by involving journalist & media organizations to "awaken" the public on this subject (TL;DR: spread propaganda about the benefits of Pidakala Wars)

🔶 Migrants will receive free housing, products and financial aid from taxpayer money, while citizens will starve to death.

🔶 Police and other law enforcement institutions will be made aware of classic stereotypes. This helps them identify "thought crime" easier

🔶 Lastly, the Capital of Romania will be officially renamed to "Bucharistan".

🇷🇴 Romania and Germany deepen strategic cooperation

🔺 New bilateral action plan signed in Berlin: Romanian President Nicușor Dan and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz have formalized a wide-ranging agreement to enhance cooperation on security, trade, and cultural ties, reinforcing direct state-to-state alignment.

🔺 Defense and economic priorities linked: The plan includes joint weapons procurement and closer coordination on energy and industrial policy—strengthening national industries while reducing dependency on external suppliers.

🔺 National identity and diaspora support: Both governments pledged to expand educational and cultural programs, with emphasis on preserving national heritage and reinforcing ties with Romanian and German communities abroad.

🔺 Sovereignty through bilateralism: This deal bypasses EU-level constraints, showing that real cooperation happens between nations—not through centralized, supranational mandates. Sovereign states must shape their own futures together.

🇺🇸🗯🇷🇺🇨🇳 — 🪖 Grynkewich also spoke about possible war against Russia and China by 2027, according to the this article:

"In another part of Grynkewich speech, he highlighted the possibility of a joint China-Russia attack meant to bog down European forces, as China takes Taiwan:

The U.S.-led NATO alliance must prepare for the possibility that Russia and China could launch wars in Europe and the Pacific simultaneously, with 2027 being a potential flashpoint year, the top American commander in Europe said Thursday.

“We’re going to need every bit of kit and equipment and munitions that we can in order to beat that,” Grynkewich said. If China’s President Xi Jinping makes a move on Taiwan, he likely would coordinate such an attack with Russian President Vladimir Putin, opening the possibility of a global conflict, he said. “That, to me, means that both of these things could happen together,” said Grynkewich, who also serves as NATO supreme allied commander.

🇷🇴⚖️ Motivating his decision to send the Vexler law to be reexamined by Parliament, president Nicușor Dan said:

“The law started by Mr. Vexler is adding on to another law which has taken effect already. I contested Vexler’s law at the Constitutional Court, asking the court to strike down half of the dispositions in this law because they are unconstitutional, an opinion which I still hold despite the Constitutional Court saying otherwise.

I still believe that leaving this ambiguity will be worse for society and will increase the tension between the two groups in society which we’ve seen form over the past year. When the Constitutional Court finishes writing the motivation for its decision, I shall send the law to the Parliament for reexamination”.

🌐⚔️🇷🇺🇷🇺📰 RIA Novosti |Ambassador Vladimir Lipayev: the actions of the West to militarize Romania threaten Russia

RIA: – How can the support of Ukraine change with the change of power in Romania? Will Bucharest be more actively involved in the Ukrainian crisis, following the European policy of confrontation? What amount has already been spent on providing military assistance to Ukraine and what types of weapons are we talking about?

Lipayev: - No change of power to significant changes in the foreign policy of Romania today will not lead. There is no need to harbor illusions about this. The country is too deeply integrated into the military-political schemes of the EU and NATO, its foreign trade is geographically weakly differentiated and almost completely focused on the EU states, financial stability largely depends on European subsidies and loans. (...)

About the amounts allocated to help Kiev, they try not to talk here, apparently, in order not to unnerve the taxpayers. But given the above-mentioned Patriot system, they far exceed one billion US dollars and continue to grow.

RIA: - Does Moscow express concern about the expansion of the Mihai Kogălniceanu air base in Romania in dialogue with Bucharest? Does the Russian Federation perceive this base as a potential threat? Romania, being a member of NATO, takes part in military exercises, which, among other things, take place on the territory of the country itself. Has Bucharest’s activity intensified within the framework of the alliance amid the inflating of the “Russian threat” in the West in recent years?

Lipayev: - It is obvious that the states of the so-called collective West are trying, while without the direct involvement of their armed forces, to intervene more and more actively in the conflict in Ukraine, hoping to change its course by increasing the degree of escalation. The use of the territory closest to Russia of the member states of the alliance, including Romania, is considered as one of the tools of such intervention. For this reason, the militarization of Romania is in full swing.

The military infrastructure is being modernized, new expensive types of weapons and military equipment are being purchased, the Mihai Kogălniceanu airbase is expanding, located at a distance of less than 400 kilometers to Sevastopol, the number of NATO troops permanently stationed on the territory of the country has increased. In fact, Romania has the role of an outpost of NATO on its southeastern flank, which in the event of a global conflict can be used to deliver a pre-emptive, disarming strike on Russia. (...)

Such a policy is associated with serious risks, which the ruling circles do not inform the public, brushing it with assurances that the NATO umbrella will allegedly be a reliable guarantee in case of war (...)

RIA: At the NATO summit in The Hague, Romania, together with the rest of the bloc, confirmed its readiness to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP by 2035 amid the economic crisis in the country. Why does the Romanian government agree to such spending with a huge budget deficit? How does the public feel about such decisions?

Lipayev: Bucharest’s defense spending was 2.26% of GDP last year. Contrary to the obvious economic costs of Romania in the general order with other EU states continues to follow an aggressive anti-Russian course. To justify the accelerated increase in military spending, citizens are tirelessly intimidated by the repetition of the distorted myth about the “Russian threat”. Militarization is presented as a lifeline for the economy.

The tragedy of Nicușor Dan

President Nicușor Dan and maybe premier Ilie Bolojan, have realised that the behaviour of their predecessors and, in Bolojan case, his colleagues and coalition partners, has created a rift between the political establishment and the Romanian people.

Dan sincerely believes that this is his mission as president, to bridge the gap between the people and the politicians and he will be playing an appeasement game, for both sides.

What makes Dan's struggle tragic is that it is all in vain. The behaviour of his predecessor, Klaus Johannis, of premier Marcel Ciolacu and the Constitutional Court, have permanently ruined the relationship between the politicians and the people.

The point of no-return has passed. It was on December 6th 2024 that mending the rift in society no longer became possible and it proven once and for all that voting is pointless because someone else entirely gets to choose whose in charge.

In the report, Florian's institute included the commemoration of the anticommunist resistance in the Fagaras Mountains (page 63), labeling it as a "Legionary Ceremony or Commemoration". 🇷🇴🧂⛏️ Environment minister, Diana Buzoianu, says that the Praid salt mine “can no longer be saved” and that its collapse is “a matter of time”.

Her declarations came after she visited the site and watched as part of the salt mine’s roof collapsed in front of her.

Buzoianu blames 4 government agencies: the salt mining company, SALROM, the company responsible for water management and rivers, Apele Române (Romanian Waters), Conversmin S.A. the national company set up to manage the closure of mines in Romania and train former miners to adapt to other jobs and work environments and the National Mining, Petroleum and Energy Stocking Regulatory Agency (ANRM) for the flood which destroyed the Praid salt mine.

Buzoianu said about the conduct of all four companies in the Praid salt mine case, SALROM, Apele Române, Conversmin and ANRM as: “blaming each other to the point where they’ve blamed beavers and completely exempted each other from any guilt”.

The former director of SALROM, Nicolae Șoltuz, who resigned after the disaster, said in 2022, after another flooding of the Praid salt mine, that beavers were to blame because his company hadn’t built adequate dams to protect mining infrastructure.

📝: The Praid Salt mine is an exemplary case of the work environment inside state owned companies in Romania: politically named directors who, due to short term limits, have all incentives to rob the companies they lead in that short 3-4 year term limit, as much as they can, with no regard for the company’s future or its employees or the communities which depend on it.

The town of Praid lost its most lucrative business: the salt will no longer be extracted and the salt mine, which accounted for ~90% of the tourists there, doesn’t exist anymore.

And all because of a Phanariote style leadership with clueless politicians appointed who just enrich themselves until they are either leave on their own or are removed.

🇷🇴☦️🇺🇦 Foreign minister, Oana Țoiu, says that the ministry of foreign affairs will look for a middle ground solution in the dispute between the Romanian Patriarchate and the Orthodox Church of Ukraine over the Romanian minority in Ukraine.

However Țoiu claims that the Ukrainian government is not hostile to the Romanian community in Ukraine which is either a lie or she is gravely misinformed.

In the multiple clips of church seizures in Cernăuți (Chernivtsi), Ukrainian law enforcement and Territorial Defense Forces are seen assisting the clergy of the OCU seizing Romanian churches or at best, watching idly by as the private property of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is being taken over by someone else.

Of course, Țoiu, being a member of the ultraprogressivist, USR party, would never dare to say something bad about Ukraine.

In the same televised appearance on Antena3, Țoiu said that Romania “must not help Ukraine resist Russia’s attacks, Romania must help Ukraine WIN the war”.

How will Ukraine actually win with our help Țoiu doesn’t say because there is no way Ukraine can win anymore no matter anything Romania does. Ukraine aid is simply a waste of resources.

Although Țoiu and every European politician like to say that the war can still be won, they will have to face the reality of having a border with Russia in the future, even if happens next year or in the next 2-5 years. What will they say then?
