I’m trying to use a remote node, and although it says the daemon and Wallet are synchronized, and the mining section appears active, the status still says not mining.

Any ideas?

Do I need to run a separate instance of P2pool on my new system?

No, I’ve read those aren’t a good idea for various reasons.
With a 5000 though I’d need about 10 of them to mint a coin every couple months or so, I think.
