Why are our markets falling even after Donald Trump elected as US President?

1. Q2FY2025 earnings have been disappointing be it FMCG, autos, metals, Reliance. Only banks and IT met expectations but if consumer spending companies report slow or de-growth future earnings of banks will disappoint. That explains why bank nifty was holding up till yesterday but was the last one to break down.

2. Dollar index is approaching 52 week high above 106. When dollar becomes strong, FII pull money from emerging markets and invest more in US markets.

3. US 10Y yield has risen from 3.70% in Sep to almost 4.40% post Trump win. This is extremely attractive risk free return for FII. US 10Y is expected to touch 5% in next 3 months.

4. Donald Trump as US President is good for US economy as he had promised his voters to re-start manufacturing in US. To de-motivate people from buying imported goods he will be imposing tariffs of 60% on Chinese imports and also tariffs on Indian imports. China and India will certainly retaliate by imposing counter tariffs. This trade war will give rise to inflation both in India and US thereby further reducing chances of rate cuts by Fed and RBI.

Long term India story is intact but markets have given super returns in last 4 yrs. Making money now will be difficult and investors have to choose quality companies to earn.
