🔺 ACCA Students: STOP Scrolling & Read This – OFR (Own Figure Rule) Might Just Save Your Exam! 🔺
If you're doing SBR, AFM, FM, FR, APM, PM and you've never heard of the Own Figure Rule (OFR), this might be the post that changes your exam mindset forever.
💡 What is OFR?
Own Figure Rule is one of the most student-friendly marking policies ACCA has. It acknowledges that a single mistake early in your answer can affect the rest of your calculations—but instead of penalizing you repeatedly, ACCA awards marks for your correct application of method, even if the figure is wrong. You’re judged on understanding, not just numbers.
🧠 Think of it this way:
If a question asks you to add 2 + 2 and then double the result, and you mistakenly write 2 + 2 = 5, but then correctly double that to get 10—you're wrong, but not entirely. You knew how to double, and ACCA gives you credit for that. That’s the OFR in action.
🎯 My Experience
In both my AFM and SBR exams, I froze mid-way. I realized I had skipped a step or used a wrong figure. In the past, I might’ve panicked—but this time, I remembered the OFR. I continued, using my wrong figure but correct methods, and completed the questions with confidence.
📈 My results?
✅ AFM – 64
✅ SBR – 63
…All because I didn’t let a mistake stop me from showing my understanding.
🔥 Lesson?
You’re not a robot. ACCA knows that. Don’t freeze. Don’t erase your work. Keep going. Apply the right method. You will get the marks.
To everyone preparing for exams: Own Figure Rule is your best friend—embrace it, apply it, and most importantly, don’t give up when you make a mistake.
