Explanation: IVC compression Ref: Read the text below Sol: When a pregnant woman lies on her back, i.e. in the supine position there is the compression of the abdominal aorta and inferior vena cava by the gravid uterus. It is a frequent cause of maternal hypotension which can result in loss of conscious- ness and in extreme circumstances fetal demise. This aortocaval compression is thought to be the cause of supine hypotensive syndrome characterized by pallor, brady- cardia, sweating, nausea, hypotension and dizziness and occurs when a pregnant woman lies on her back and resolves when she is turned on her side.
The following is true of the Short saphenous vein that is seen here (Arrow)
a)It is accompanied by the peroneal nerve
b)It is seen the proximal calf, between heads of gastrocnemius
c)Cranial extension in the posterior thigh called Giacomini vein
d)The Giacomini vein is the communication between the short saphenous vein and long saphenous vein at mid thigh
