Being grateful not only makes you feel contented with what you have, it also allows you to attain barakah in whatever blessing you were grateful for originally.

So if you wish to increase your blessings and barakah in life, begin with being grateful for what you have.

๐Ÿ”˜ Do istighfaar
Allah promises in the Quran:

โ€œAsk forgiveness from your Lord; Verily, He is Oft-Forgiving. He will send rain to you in abundanceโ€ (71:10-11)

Rains in the Quran also symbolize blessings.

โ€œAnd we sent down from the sky blessed waterโ€ฆ.โ€ (50:9)

Allah send blessings to a person who seeks forgiveness. And as we all wish to receive blessings from Allah, so we need to develop the habit of doing istighfaar in our free time.

๐Ÿ”˜ Develop a habit of sadaqah
Allah says in the Quran:

โ€œVerily those who give sadaqah, men and women, and lend Allah a goodly loan, it shall be increased manifold, and theirs shall be a honourable good reward (Paradise) โ€. [Quran 57:18].

From this prophetic hadeeth we know that charity will not decrease our wealth (again an aspect no mathematics can encompass), and instead we hear testimonials from people who proclaim that their wealth had barakah after they started giving to charity.

Endnote:

In sum, Barakah in life is attained through having a good connection with your Master. Always strive to improve your relationship with Allah so that everyday you are closer than the day before. In so doing, you will have barakah in your work life, as well as in other areas of your life.

๐Ÿ”š This is the end.

What is barakah, and how can you achieve it in your professional life?

Have you ever planned to get all your tasks done during the day, but time seems to slip out of your hands without getting everything accomplished? Have you ever slept for a solid eight hours but still felt sleepy the next day at work? Has it ever happened that your money that was supposed to suffice until the end of the month was just not enough? Many of us have had these experiences: times when we feel like there is no barakah in our lives, in our time, our decisions, our money and even our abilities. When faced with issues such as these, people typically turn towards their resources and other worldly means to solve their problems. But there might be an underlying issue, and that is this: barakah is missing from our lives and our actions.

Understand What Barakah Actually Is

Barakah is an Arabic word that has three meanings:

The first meaning is ุงู„ู†ู…ุงุก ูˆ ุงู„ุฒูŠุงุฏุฉ which is โ€œgrowth and increaseโ€.
Something that possesses barakah increases and grows beyond ordinary expectations.

Letโ€™s look at it like this: according to Newtonโ€™s Third Law of Motion, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. But when an action has barakah in it, it defies this law of Newton and even a small action may have a huge reaction! For example, you plant one seed in the ground and expect one tree to grow; but if you plant one seed and it grows ten trees โ€“ well, thatโ€™s something beyond ordinary expectations. This is barakah. When an initial action is small but the resulting reaction is unexpectedly large, this means the reaction must have had barakah.

The second meaning is ุงู„ุงุณุชู…ุฑุงุฑูŠุฉ or โ€continuityโ€.
The Arabs have a saying: ุงุจุชุฑูƒุช ุงู„ุณู…ุงุก โ€œthe sky has poured continuously, when the rain keeps coming down." So consistency is also among the meanings of barakah. The increase is continuous and not for a limited time.

The third meaning of barakah is โ€œsomething that is stable in its placeโ€
The Arabs also say: ุงุจุชุฑูƒุช ุงู„ุฌู…ู„ for a camel that has its feet fixed in the sand. So itโ€™s not only increasing continuously but it is a consistent increase as well. So barakah is an increase that doesnโ€™t lose stability like, say, a Lego tower, which gets more and more unstable as its height increases.

Source of Blessing

Allah says in the Quran; (55:78) ุชุจุงุงุฑูƒ ุงุณู… ุฑุจูƒ โ€œblessed is the name of your Masterโ€. Which means that whatever you do starting with the name of Allah, it will produce goodness and that goodness will grow and keep on increasing and it will not go away. Barakah is such a blessing from Allah on Muslims.

As Muslims we should always be optimistic because, whatever we do starting with the name of Allah, will grow beyond our expectations.

There is a physical world around us that we see. Islam teaches us that there is also a spiritual world, and barakah is what is beyond our ordinary expectations because it comes from Allah.

What is it Like to be Blessed

Now we look at some examples from the lives of our heroes in Islam, our Islamic scholars.

Imam nawawi RA was known for sitting in at least ten circles of knowledge every single day, and he wrote some of the most important books, including 40 Ahadeeth al Nawawi and Riyadh us Saleheen. He died at the age of 44, yet he accomplished so much in this short span of time. There was barakah in his life.

Imam bukhari RA whose books we all have on our shelves even today and are well known for their authenticity, used to perform ghusl and perform istikhara, and he asked Allah for guidance before jotting down a hadith in his book. He would also finalize each sahih hadeeth in the prophetโ€™s SAW mosque sitting near the Rawdah (the grave of the Prophet SAW) and he would seek barakah from Allah in his work.

Why did he do the extra effort? Itโ€™s because barakah is from Allah and He puts goodness in whatever He wills, beyond our ordinary expectations which no statistics, no mathematics, no scientific explanation can ever encompass.

6. Do as you would with the Quran - learn, teach, relearn

Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "The best among you are those who learn the Quran and teach itโ€ (Bukhari).

Learning about any topic, then teaching it, has been found to enhance understanding.

Finding a study partner is one way to do this. Take turns being the teacher and the student. Another alternative is to teach what youโ€™ve learned, whether itโ€™s a section in a chapter or a math or science formula, to a younger sibling, even a parent or grandparent.

4. Take advantage of Tahajjud time

The last part of the night, right before dawn, is considered a blessed time. In the Quran, Allah says, โ€œLo! The vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certainโ€ (73:6). This is when Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, would perform the Tahajjud prayer.

Go to bed right after praying Isha and wake up an hour or two before Fajr starts. Use this blessed time to really focus and concentrate when studying, especially for those subjects you find most difficult.

Another benefit of getting up right before dawn is that itโ€™s one of the best times to make Dua. The Prophet said, โ€œOur Lord descends each night to the nearest Heaven when only the last third of the night remains, and says: โ€˜Is anyone praying that I may answer him? Is anyone seeking forgiveness, that I may forgive him? Is anyone asking, that I may give to him?โ€™, and this continues until dawnโ€ (Tirmidhi).

2. Make prayers your pegs

Time management is key to studying in the most effective way for exams. While everyone is unique in how, where, and when they study, itโ€™s best to build a schedule that works around essential tasks. Most important among these is the five daily prayers.

For example, many students prefer studying through the night. If youโ€™re one of them, then plan to study between Maghrib and midnight, ending your day with Isha.

Alternatively, if youโ€™re more of a morning person, praying Fajr right when the time starts, then studying until you have to get ready for school later in the morning may work better for you.

Make note of the start times for prayers in the coming weeks and plan your study schedule around them.

It is when things are at their worst that Allah will raise the best generation. The generation that the Prophet would be told Sahabat should look up to. So maybe the fact that you are living in the darkest of time means that Allah thinks you can be the strongest source of light.

Allah thinks you -- you -- were born for this time. That's Allah's decision. Which means you have something significant to offer the world. You have some serious trees to plant. And you have to not get overwhelmed with the news around you. Even if dajjal is tapping you on the shoulders. Say (to Dajjal), "Hold on, I'm planting a tree".

You do what you gotta do. You gotta focus.

I do not have a preference for Bezos, Musk and Gates and those who aspire to them. Because their beliefs and concepts are as follows:

He said, โ€œThis is given to me because of the knowledge (I have) with me.โ€ย

Did he not know that Allah had already destroyed some from the generations before him who were far superior to him in power and greater in accumulating หนwealthหบ?ย

And the sinners have not to be asked about their sins (There will be no need to enumerate their sins separately, as their quantity is obvious and more than sufficient to warrant punishment in Hell.)
(Surat al-Qasas, 78)

The beliefs and concepts of those who aspire to them are as follows:

"So he came out before his people in his adornment. Those who desired the worldly life said, "Oh, would that we had like what was given to Qฤrลซn. Indeed, he is one of great fortune."
(Surat al-Qasas, 79)

The concept of those who know their beliefs as incorrect is as follows:

But those who had been given knowledge said, "Woe to you! The reward of Allah is better for he who believes and does righteousness. And none are granted it except the patient."
(Surat al-Qasas, 80)

The consequences of Korah and those who aspired to him are as follows:

Then We made him and his home sink into the earth.ย

So there was no group for him who could help him against Allah, nor was he one of those who could defend themselves.
(Surat al-Qasas, 81)

And those who wished to be in his position the day before, started saying, โ€œOh, it seems that Allah extends provision to whom He wills and straitens (for whom He wills).

Had Allah not favored us, He would have made us sink (too). Oh, it seems that the infidels do not succeed.โ€
(Surat al-Qasas, 82)

In short, the belief that I have achieved everything by myself and my knowledge, contradicts Islamic teachings.

It is wrong to be passionate and motivated to it. Many of our businessmen and merchants should correct their beliefs: "Allah provides sustenance. There are more knowledgeable or zealous people than you. But they did not become rich because Allah did not want them to do so. A Muslim corrects his beliefs and then moves on."

And there is a reason why even today, after hundreds of years and in the days to come, imam bukhariโ€™s work will be appreciated and referred to as the most authentic source of knowledge after the Quran.

7 Tips to add barakah in your work life from the Quran and sunnah

These are some of the most beneficial and tested tips through which you can add barakah into your work life..

๐Ÿ”˜ Strengthening your faith and acting upon it

Allah says in the Quran:

โ€œAnd if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah, We would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they denied [the messengers], so We seized them for what they were earning." (7:96)

Start with increasing your faith, which will be done by obtaining authentic knowledge and acting upon it. If you strive to do that for the sake of Allah, you will notice a change in your life. Secondly read the Quran, at least one page every day. Allah says in the Quran about this book:

โ€œThis is a book that We have revealed to you that's full of barakahโ€ฆโ€ (38:29)

Unfortunately, people today are too busy to find time to read the Quran while the sources of barakah and the path to finding barakah in time can be found in the Holy Book.

๐Ÿ”˜ Focus on the purpose

Letโ€™s beware of where our focus is. Our focus should be on the purpose โ€“ the reason why -- we are doing something. Unfortunately many people think of their work as just a burden, filled with monotony. However, if we focus on the fact that work provides purpose to our lives and is a means for us to earn sustenance for our families, we begin to see our work as much more meaningful and purposeful. When we have a sense of purpose at work, we feel more passionate and committed, and this gives us positive energy and contentment. Focus on the fact that Allah has given us these tasks so that we may earn and spend on our families, which is a great reward for us.

Because;

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: โ€œWhen a man spends on his family, hoping for reward, that is (counted as) an act of charity for him.โ€ (Bukhari: 55)

๐Ÿ”˜ Remain in the state of wudhu

Wudhu is a high level of piety and purity. When a person is in the state of wudhu, nothing but goodness comes from wherever he places his hands. Our esteemed Muslim scholars would never write anything down or do any important task without first performing wudhu or ghusl beforehand. What this means is that wudhu is a state of spiritual purity and it is conducive to bringing barakah into the work that you are performing.

๐Ÿ”˜ Keep your tongue moist with the dhikr (remembrance) of Allah SWT

As mentioned earlier Allah says: โ€œblessed is the name of your Lordโ€

If you find yourself experiencing monotony in your work life, take a break for a few minutes and do some extra adhkaar, and you will see barakah in your time and in the work that you were doing.

Fatima RA the daughter of prophet Muhammad PBUH once came to her father and complained of excessive household work and requested a slave [to lend a hand in the chores]. Her hands were blistered from grinding the flour in the mill. Prophet Muhammad PBUH went later that evening to her house, Ali RA, Fatima's RA husband was also there. Prophet PBUH lied down between them and asked them โ€œshould I not advise you of something even better than you asked me for? When you go to sleep say:
โ€˜subhanAllahโ€™ 33 times, and say โ€˜Alhamdulillahโ€™ 33 times and say โ€˜Allahu akbarโ€™ 34 times. It will be better for you than a slave.โ€ (sahih bukhari: 3113)

This hadeeth is a perfect example of attaining barakah in oneโ€™s endeavors through the dhikr of Allah.

When you are free from work, especially at night, it is also best not to let your thoughts run wild and experience unnecessary anxiety; rather remember Allah and take His blessed name.

๐Ÿ”˜ Always be grateful

Allah SWT promises in the Quran:

โ€œIf you give thanks, I will definitely increase for you (the blessings)โ€ (14:7)

5. Space out your studying - like your prayers

Imagine we crammed all five prayers of the day into one hour. It wouldnโ€™t really help us remember Allah as well the rest of the day. The periodic reminders of God are far more effective than remembering in one shot.

The same is true with information we want to remember for an exam. Spacing out study sessions is better than cramming at the last minute, whether it is the day before the test or a week.

One way to do this is to study just 15 minutes after each prayer. You could quickly scan and review a short chapter or a section. Or for essays, write free form for 15 minutes on a topic covered in the textbook.

3. Dua before, during, and after

โ€œAnd your Lord says, โ€˜Call upon Me; I will respond to youโ€™โ€ (Quran 40:60). God is always there to hear our pleas and to seek help from for our difficulties. At every turn, at every point, especially when struggling to understand a unit of study or subject we struggle with, make Dua. Turn to Him and ask Him directly. He knows all, but saying your Duas in a way that are relevant to you will ease some of your stress. Some examples:

Oh God, help me get a five on my AP exam!
Oh Allah, help me understand this section on tectonic plates!
Oh God, help me remember all of my physics formulas during the exam!
Oh Allah, help me write an excellent essay in the written word section!

6 Islamic Tips for Studying for Exams

ยฉ๏ธSamana Siddiqui

1. Intention, intention, intention

Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, said, โ€œVerily, deeds depend upon intentions. Indeed, every person will be rewarded based on their intentionsโ€ฆโ€ (Bukhari and Muslim).

On the surface, studying for exams may seem like a necessary chore, its purpose murky and meant only to move on to the next level of education. Itโ€™s easy to fall into auto-pilot and not really think about why weโ€™re doing it.

In reality, seeking knowledge can be a way for us to grow in closeness to God by better understanding the world He has created. Making this intention will give us the motivation we need at difficult times when we want to put off studying. It will also help when we become discouraged trying to understand a difficult topic.

With good intentions, routine things which may not look religious otherwise become sources of reward in the eyes of God, the Merciful.

Narrated Jabir bin Abdullah: The Prophet (p.b.u.h) used to teach us the way of doing Istikhara (Istikhara means to ask Allah to guide one to the right sort of action concerning any job or a deed), in all matters as he taught us the Suras of the Qur'an. He said, "If anyone of you thinks of doing any job he should offer a two rakat prayer other than the compulsory ones and say (after the prayer): -- 'Allahumma inni astakhiruka bi'ilmika, Wa astaqdiruka bi-qudratika, Wa as'alaka min fadlika Al-azlm Fa-innaka taqdiru Wala aqdiru, Wa ta'lamu Wala a'lamu, Wa anta 'allamu l-ghuyub. Allahumma, in kunta ta'lam anna hadha-lamra Khairun li fi dini wa ma'ashi wa'aqibati Amri (or 'ajili Amri wa'ajilihi) Faqdirhu wa yas-sirhu li thumma barik li Fihi, Wa in kunta ta'lamu anna hadha-lamra shar-run li fi dini wa ma'ashi wa'aqibati Amri (or fi'ajili `Amri wa ajilihi) Fasrifhu anni was-rifni anhu. Waqdir li al-khaira haithu kana Thumma ardini bihi.' (O Allah! I ask guidance from Your knowledge, And Power from Your Might and I ask for Your great blessings. You are capable and I am not. You know and I do not and You know the unseen. O Allah! If You know that this job is good for my religion and my subsistence and in my Hereafter--(or said: If it is better for my present and later needs)--Then You ordain it for me and make it easy for me to get, And then bless me in it, and if You know that this job is harmful to me In my religion and subsistence and in the Hereafter--(or said: If it is worse for my present and later needs)--Then keep it away from me and let me be away from it. And ordain for me whatever is good for me, And make me satisfied with it). The Prophet (๏ทบ) added that then the person should name (mention) his need.

NOT LIFE, BUT FAITH

Ibn Abu Jamila narrated that a man was saying goodbye to Ibn Hawa and said, "May Allah protect your life, Abu Miqdam." He said, "O son of my brother, ask Allah to protect the faith of your brother, not the life."

And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She said, "Oh, I wish I had died before this and was in oblivion, forgotten." (Surah Al Maryam, 23)

Maryam, the queen of the righteous women and the mother of the Prophet, said this during childbirth and pain.
This means that we should not blame for the words spoken in difficult and painful moments.

I believe that a person forgets what he has learned because of the sin he has committed.

It is said that in the past when a mother wanted to breastfeed her child, she would say "Bismillah" and then hold her breast to a child with an intention of making him a great person.

She dreamed of him becoming a brave warrior, or a strong scientist, or a skilled leader. Thats why our ancestors became great.

Today, our women are breastfeeding their children only to make them sleep. That is why a large part of the Ummah is asleep.
