HOW CAN YOU LIVE BY THE NAME AL-AHAD

1⃣ Reflect on the significance of the testimony of faith (shahada) by understanding its meaning and implications. Connect both your limbs and heart to it, recalling the sacrifices made by believers throughout history. Consider examples like the wife of Firawn, Bilal, and the majority of the early Muslims, acknowledging the power of the shahada.

2⃣ Resist your desires; prioritize ALLĀH as the sole focus in your actions and submissions. Embrace Surah Al-Ikhlās as your life motto. Let it inspire sincerity in all your actions, focusing on AL-AHAD, because your sincerity to HIM is crucial for eternal success, as it determines the value of your deeds in the eyes of ALLĀH.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of ALLAH ﷺ said, "ALLĀH Almighty said: I am the One, One Who does not stand in need of a partner. Whoever performs a deed in which he associates another with ME, I will abandon him to his partner."

{Muslim 2985}

3⃣ Ask AL-AHAD. Ask HIM, turn to HIM and beg HIM Only for your every need.

Buraidah (may ALLĀH be pleased with him) narrated, 'The Messenger of ALLĀH (ﷺ) heard a man saying:

'اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِأَنِّي أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ أَنْتَ اَللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ, اَلْأَحَدُ اَلصَّمَدُ, اَلَّذِي لَمْ يَلِدْ, وَلَمْ يُولَدْ, وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ.‏'

Allāhumma inni as'aluka bi-annī ash-hadu annaka anta Allāh, lā ilāha illā anta, al-ahadu al-Samadu, allathee lam yalid wa lam yulad, wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan ahad.

‘O ALLĀH! I ask you by virtue that I testify that you are ALLĀH; there is no god but YOU, the one —· the Self Sufficient Master, Who did not beget, and was not begotten, and to whom no one is equal.’

ALLĀH’s Messenger (ﷺ) then said, “He has asked ALLĀH by HIS Name by which when asked, HE gives, and by which when supplicated, HE answers.”

ALLĀH HAS PURCHASED THE SOULS AND WEALTH OF THE BELIEVERS IN RETURN FOR PARADISE

ALLĀH tells us something true and makes a true promise of a great transaction, which is that HE Himself

...has indeed purchased from the believers their lives and wealth

and the item of which that price is announced is no less than paradise.

in exchange for Paradise.

In which there is all that hearts may long for and that may delight the eyes, of all kinds of pleasure, joy, happiness, beautiful spouses and splendid dwellings.

What this transaction involves is that they give their lives and their wealth to ALLĀH, striving in jihad against HIS enemies and to make HIS word supreme and support HIS religion. This transaction is offered by ALLĀH with complete surety and all kinds of guarantees.

{Tafsi‌r As-Sa'di}

"So rejoice in your transaction which you have contracted. That is the supreme success."

TEN WAYS OF ATTAINING ALLĀH'S LOVE

Imam Ibn al-Qayyim listed 10 ways of attaining ALLĀH'S love:

1⃣ Recitation of the Qur'an with reflection and with understanding of its meanings.

2⃣ Seeking closeness to ALLĀH by performing voluntary deeds after having performed obligatory ones, for that leads one to the highest levels of love.

3⃣ Remembering ALLĀH during every situation – with one’s time, heart and deeds, one’s share of that love is to the degree of one’s share in that remembrance.

4⃣ Preferring what HE loves to what you love when your desires are strong.

5⃣ Allowing your heart to reflect on HIS Names and Attributes.

6⃣ Reflecting on HIS many favors and blessings, both the apparent ones and hidden ones, for that leads to HIS love.

7⃣ Having your heart softened as it is worshipping ALLĀH.

8⃣ Being alone with HIM in worship when HE descends during the last third of the night. And this means to invoke HIM, to recite HIS Speech, to stand with all sincerity and with good manners and with good submission, and then to end that with repentance and with seeking HIS forgiveness.

9⃣ Sitting with those who are truthful in their love of ALLĀH.

1⃣0⃣ Staying away from all that creates barriers between the heart and ALLĀH.

THE DESTRUCTIVE TRAITS

Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdasī رحمه الله said:

"Know, that most of the people are only destroyed due to their fear of the blame of the people and loving to be praised by them. As a result, all of their movements become in agreement with that which pleases the people hoping for their praise and fearing their blame. That is from the things which destroy (a person), therefore, it is obligatory to remedy it."

EPISODE 6⃣ - AL-MĀLIK (المالك) - THE KING
➖➖➖

Throughout history, humanity has been characterized by its struggle for power and authority, often resulting in failure due to inherent weaknesses such as forgetfulness, impatience, greed, and injustice all mentioned in the Qur'ān. This is in stark contrast to the eternal and expansive dominion of Allāh (ﷻ), the one true monarch, The King. While human kingdoms rise and fall, Allāh's kingdom knows no bounds, stretching from the past to the future and encompassing all of creation.

Allāh's continuous spending on His ever-growing kingdom does not deplete His possessions. Despite His cosmic dominion, He remains attentive and responsive to the needs of every creature, from the lowliest to the mightiest. This understanding of Allāh as the King of kings inspires humility and acceptance of His divine decrees in our lives as believers.

Earthly authorities often drift away from the common people, but Allah's accessibility is unparalleled. Recognizing this, believers should remain grounded and humble, knowing that their position and possessions are temporary and ultimately controlled by Allāh (ﷻ).

The pursuit of worldly possessions, power, and fame can be intoxicating, but believers must remember that everything belongs to Allāh. A true understanding of Allāh as Al-Malik helps individuals embrace humility and reject self-importance.

When you ask why is so and so a member of my family yet to embrace Islam despite my efforts and my duā? The answer is that - it is Allāh's kingdom, which He has not granted permission for. And you ask why I am still poor, despite my continual efforts to obtain work? We say, 'it is Allāh's kingdom He hasn't granted permission'. Why have I yet to recover from my illness? It's Allāh's kingdom He hasn't granted permission, why do happy marriages continue to elude me? It's Allāh's Kingdom and He hasn't given permission yet. So to know Al-Malik is to know that He is free to do whatever He wants in His kingdom

Knowing Allāh (ﷻ) as the ultimate Giver and Provider, believers can show patience, forgive others, and focus on discharging the rights of others rather than claiming their own. Allāh's availability for supplication and forgiveness every night emphasizes His generosity and willingness to help.

In summary, humanity's pursuit of power is fraught with weaknesses, while Allāh's eternal and expanding dominion humbles believers and fosters humility and patience. Understanding Allāh as Al-Malik encourages gratitude and reliance on His continuous support and guidance.

May Allāh (ﷻ) guide us to understand His religion.

Indeed, there was a party of MY servants who said, 'Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us and have mercy upon us, and YOU are the best of the merciful.'

But you took them in mockery to the point that they made you forget MY remembrance, and you used to laugh at them.

Today I have indeed rewarded them for their perseverance: they are certainly the triumphant.”

HE will ask ˹them˺, “How many years did you remain on earth?”

They will say, We remained a day or part of a day; ask those who enumerate.

He will say, You only remained for a little while, if only you knew.

Then did you think that WE created you uselessly and that to US you would not be returned?

HOW CAN YOU LIVE BY THE NAME AL-GHAFŪR

1⃣ Never despair! A true believer never despairs, holding onto hope in ALLĀH'S help and mercy. Despite inevitable human flaws, instead of succumbing to negativity, one promptly seeks forgiveness from Al-Ghafūr and counters a bad deed with a good one.

Jabir ibn Abdullāh reported: A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and he said, “O my sins! O my sins!” The Prophet ﷺ said to him, “Say: O ALLĀH, your forgiveness is vaster than my sins, and your mercy is more hopeful to me than my deeds.”

The man said it, then the Prophet ﷺ said, “Repeat it.” The man repeated it, then the Prophet ﷺ said, “Repeat it again.” The man repeated it, then the Prophet ﷺ said, “Stand up, for ALLĀH has forgiven you.” {Shu’ab al-Ima‌n 6622}

2⃣ Think of the forgiveness of Al-Ghafūr and how HE inspired Salahuddin's father to forgive his son's killer. Be inspired to adopt a habit of being forgiving in your daily life. Hamdun al-Qassar, one of the great early Muslims, said: 'If a friend among your friends errs, make seventy excuses for them. If your hearts are unable to do this, then know that the shortcoming is in your own selves.' [Bayhaqī]

3⃣ Conceal the faults of others, for the Prophet ﷺ said: "A servant does not cover the faults of another servant in the world but that Allah will cover his faults on the Day of Resurrection." {Muslim 2590}

ALLĀH, Al-Ghafur, values this quality, offering forgiveness and sparing individuals from public accountability for their sins. ALLĀH said:
"...and who restrain anger and who pardon the people - and ALLĀH loves the doers of good" {Āli-Imrān: 134}

4⃣ Don't openly share or boast about your sins. Feel shame for wrongdoings and avoid inspiring others by keeping your transgressions private. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Every one of my followers will be forgiven except those who expose (openly) their wrongdoings. An example of this is that of a man who commits a sin at night which ALLĀH has covered for him, and in the morning, he would say (to people): I committed such and such sin last night, while ALLĀH had kept it a secret. During the night ALLĀH has covered it up but in the morning he tears up the cover provided by ALLĀH himself." [Al-Bukhāri and Muslim]

5⃣ Don't leave off invoking Al-Ghafūr with Sayyidul Istighfar as taught by the Prophet ﷺ:

Shaddad ibn Aws reported: The Prophet ﷺ said to him, "The best way to seek forgiveness is that you say:

اَللّٰهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّيْ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، خَلَقْتَنِيْ وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ
Allaahumma 'Anta Rabbee laa 'ilaaha 'illaa 'Anta, khalaqtanee wa 'anaa 'abduka,

O ALLĀH, YOU are my Lord, none has the right to be worshipped except YOU, YOU created me and I am YOUR servant

and I abide to YOUR covenant and promise as best I can, I take refuge in YOU from the evil of which I have committed.

'aboo'u laka bini'matika 'alayya, wa 'aboo'u bithanbee

I acknowledge YOUR favour upon me and I acknowledge my sin,

faghfir lee fa'innahu laa yaghfiruth-thunooba 'illaa 'Anta.

so forgive me, for verily none can forgive sin except YOU.

Whoever recites this with conviction in the evening and dies during that night shall enter Paradise, and whoever recites it with conviction in the morning and dies during that day shall enter Paradise."

EPISODE 5⃣ - AL-GHAFŪR (الغفور) - THE FORGIVING

➖➖➖

We go to clinics and surgeries, eager to spend every dime we have in order to be better, and we knock on every door in quest of happiness and peace of mind. We go to scholars, psychologists, and even raqīs in the hopes of soothing our pains and dispelling our anxieties, not realizing that in many cases, the fundamental cause of the sickness was merely a sin that required an apology to Allāh (ﷻ) and a humble retreat to Him, Al-Ghafūr.

We translate this Majestic name as the Most Forgiving, but a closer look reveals a much deeper meaning; the word is derived from 'ghafr,' which refers to cover and conceal something; this is why when Arabs say that so-and-so dyed his grey hair, they say 'ghafara shaybuhu,' because it involves covering. They also call war helmets 'mighfar' because they cover the head and protect it from damage. So, based on these instances, you've undoubtedly realized that the name has two basic meanings: protection from danger and veiling from exposure.

Now if you've understood this, you've understood the name of Allāh.

Al-ghafūr is The One who hides the sins of man and conceals his faults, veiling his treacherous behaviour so as not to humiliate him, while at the same time it is He who shields him protects him from the harms of those sins by accepting his repentance, replacing the sins with good deeds, and even loving him more than He did before the sin.

Which is different to us, after we forgive, we can love, but from a distance, when Allāh (ﷻ) forgives, He loves from a place even closer than before, that is the Lord to be appreciated and loved. Forgiveness is a universally admired trait, we're inclined to admire those who pardon, particularly when the victim did not need to do so.

In April 2015, Salahuddin, a delivery driver for Pizza Hut, was making one of his last deliveries of his shift when he was robbed at an apartment in Kentucky, U.S., he was stabbed to death. What caught the headlines, however, was what happened during the court hearing on the murder. The Father of Salahuddin was present, and he came eye to eye with his son's killer. The father addressed him, and he said that you know it's been two years and seven months of suffering along with many nightmares, but I am angry at the devil who misguided you and misled you to do such a horrible crime, I don't blame you, I'm not angry at you, and I forgive you. Then he said to him, "the door of opportunity for God to forgive you is open, reach out to Him, you have a new chapter of the good life coming".

Subhanallah!

Now the defendant was sentenced to 31 years in prison, but before he was taken away, Salahuddin's father embraced him, he hugged him, and the defendant wept. The father whispered into his ear to do good deeds and that when he is released from prison, he should have confidence that Allāh is forgiving.

At that moment, the sounds of heavy crying from the attendees could be heard, the judge was reduced to tears, and she called for a break. So we admire these examples, yet at the core of it is an example of forgiveness between two equal human beings. So what then of forgiveness when it happens between two who are very different from one another, when the crime was not between two equal human beings but between a slave and The Supreme Master, the helpless and The Supreme King, the deficient and The Perfect, the created and The Creator? How intensely should he be loved for the forgiveness that he shows?

Think about the sheer number of ways that Allāh (ﷻ) has given for people to have their sins cleansed from them as if they never did them, no less than ten different ways. Three ways in the life of this world - tawba (repentance) is one way to have those sins erased, calamities, by their nature erase sins, good deeds, which by their nature erase sins.

ALLĀH INVITES ALL TO PARADISE

ALLĀH says,

And ALLĀH invites to the Home of Peace and guides whom HE wills to a straight path.

Jabir b Abdulláh narrated that Prophet ﷺ came to them and said;

"I have seen in my sleep that it was as if Jibril was at my head and Mika'il at my leg. They were saying to each other: 'Give an example for him.'

He said:`Listen, your ear may listen. And fathom, your heart may fathom. The parable of you and your Ummah is that of a king who has built a house on his land. He arranged a banquet in it. Then he sent a messenger to invite the people to his food. Some accepted the invitation and others did not. ALLĀH is the King and the land is Islam, the house is Paradise and you Muhammad are the Messenger. Whosoever responds to your call enters Islam. And whosoever enters Islam enters Paradise. And whosoever enters Paradise eats from it."

THE COMMAND FOR MANKIND TO BELIEVE IN PROPHET MUHAMMAD ﷺ

ALLĀH says,

O mankind, the Messenger has come to you with the truth from your Lord,
so believe; it is better for you.

Here, ALLĀH commands all people to believe in HIS slave and Messenger Muhammad ﷺ, and HE mentions the reason why they should believe in him, the benefits of believing in him, and the harm that results from not believing in him.

The reason is, as HE tells us, that he brought the truth to them; in other words, his coming as a Messenger in and of itself is true, and the teachings that he brought are true. The wise person would realise that for people to continue wandering blindly in ignorance and disbelief, without receiving any message for a long time, is not in accordance with the wisdom and mercy of ALLĀH. The sending of the Messenger ﷺ is in itself part of HIS great wisdom and mercy, and is aimed at showing them guidance away from misguidance.

Simply looking at his message offers definitive proof of the soundness of his claim to prophethood. The same may be said of looking at the great message he brought and the straight path. His message tells us about matters of the unseen, in the past and in the future, and about ALLĀH and the Last Day; these matters cannot be known except through revelation and the sending of Messengers.

Islam enjoins all that is good and righteous, wisdom, justice, kindness, truthfulness, righteousness, upholding of ties and good attitudes, and it prohibits evil, corruption, transgression, injustice, bad attitudes, lying, and disobedience to parents. All of this offers definitive proof that it comes from ALLĀH.

The more a person increases in knowledge of the message, the stronger his faith and certainty become. This is the reason for believing.

As for the benefits of faith, ALLĀH says that it is good for us, and good is the opposite of evil. So faith is good for the believers, physically, mentally and spiritually, in this world and in the hereafter.

That is because of what results from faith of interests and benefits, and rewards in this world and in the hereafter. The fruits of faith include divine help, guidance, knowledge, righteous deeds, happiness, joy and paradise with all that it contains of delights. All of that results from faith. By the same token, misery in this world and the hereafter stems from a lack of faith or a deficiency therein.

{Tafsi‌r As-Sa'di}

Abu Hurayrah (May ALLĀH be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of ALLĀH ﷺ said:

“By the One in Whose Hand Muhammad's soul is! There is nobody of this Ummah, be they Jewish or Christian, who hears of me and then dies without believing in what I was sent with except that he will be among the people of Hellfire.”

[Muslim]

HOW CAN YOU LIVE BY THE NAME AL-JABBAR

1⃣ Contemplate the compelling nature of Al-Jabbar, recognizing HIS influence in shaping your form, heartbeat, blood circulation, nerve cells, sleep, and wakefulness. Embrace these involuntary actions as reflections of ALLĀH'S power, fostering a deeper connection and increased faith in HIS perfect might.

2⃣ Avoid being jabbar (oppressive, arrogant); embrace the role of an 'abd (slave) to Al-Jabbar. Jabbar isn't just a tyrant ruler but also encompasses actions that harm others. The Qur'an warns against arrogance, emphasizing the good treatment of others. Never underestimate the impact of words or actions on others.

3⃣ If you have oppressed someone, ask for their forgiveness straight away. Mend others' hearts, knowing that Al-Jabbar will mend yours in times of need.

4⃣ Turn to Al-Jabbar to fix your faults and achieve your goals. Elevate your faith in HIM to address deficiencies, organize your life, and transform sins into good deeds. Make seeking shelter in HIM a general rule in your life to navigate all distresses.

5⃣ Ask Al-Jabbār. The Prophet ﷺ used to say between two prostrations in prayer:

اَللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِيْ، وَارْحَمْنِيْ، وَاهْدِنِيْ، وَاجْبُرْنِيْ، وَعَافِنِيْ، وَارْزُقْنِيْ، وَارْفَعْنِيْ

Allāhum-maghfir lee, warhamnee, wahdinee, wajburnee, wa 'aafinee, warzuqnee, warfa'nee.

O ALLĀH forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, reform me (or fix my affairs), protect me, provide for me and elevate me.

{Abu Dawud 1/231, Ibn Majah 898 and others}

The Prophet ﷺ also used to say in prostration and bowing:

سُبْحَانَ ذِي الْجَبَرُوْتِ، وَالْمَلَكُوْتِ، وَالْكِبْرِيَاءِ، وَالْعَظَمَةِ

Subhāna thil-jabarooti, walmalakūti, walkibriyā'i, wal'adhamah.

Glory is to YOU, Master of power, of dominion, of majesty and greatness.

{Abu Dawud 1/230}

Memorize these supplications so you can benefit from them.

THE COMMAND TO AVOID ZINA (UNLAWFUL SEX) AND EVERYTHING THAT LEADS TO IT

ALLĀH says, forbidding HIS servants to commit Zina or to approach it or to do anything that may lead to it:

وَلَا تَقْرَبُواْ الزِّنَى إِنَّهُ كَانَ فَاحِشَةً
Do not go near fornication. Indeed, it is ever an immorality

meaning a major sin,

and an evil way.

meaning, a terrible way to behave.

Imam Ahmad recorded Abu Umamah saying that a young man came to the Prophet ﷺ said,

"O Messenger of ALLĀH! Give me permission to commit Zina (unlawful sex)."

The people surrounded him and rebuked him, saying, "Stop! Stop!"

But the Prophet ﷺ said: "Come close"

The young man came to him, and he said, "Sit down", so he sat down.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Would you like it (unlawful sex) for your mother"!

He said, "No, by ALLĀH, may I be ransomed for you."

The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Neither do the people like it for their mothers."

The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Would you like it for your daughter?"

He said, "No, by ALLĀH, may I be ransomed for you."

The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Neither do the people like it for their daughters."

The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Would you like it for your sister?"

He said, "No, by ALLĀH, may I be ransomed for you."

The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Neither do the people like it for their sisters."

The Prophet said:
"Would you like it for your paternal aunt?"

He said, "No, by ALLĀH, O ALLĀH'S Messenger! may I be ransomed for you."

The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Neither do the people like it for their paternal aunts."

The Prophet said:
"Would you like it for your maternal aunt?"

He said, "No, by ALLĀH, O ALLĀH'S Messenger! may I be ransomed for you."

The Prophet said:
"Neither do the people like it for their maternal aunts."

Then the Prophet ﷺ put his hand on him and said:
"O ALLĀH, forgive his sin, purify his heart and guard his chastity."

After that, the young man never paid attention to anything of that nature.

{Tafsi‌r Ibn Kathīr}

Abu Hurairah (May ALLĀH be pleased with him) said:

The Prophet ﷺ said:
"The Zina of the eye is the (lustful) look, the Zina of the ears is the listening (to voluptuous songs or talk), the Zina of the tongue is (the licentious) speech, the Zina of the hand is the (lustful) grip, the Zina of the feet is the walking (to the place where he intends to commit Zina), the heart yearns and desires and the private parts approve all that or disapprove it.''

THE BELIEVERS' SUCCESS AND THE DISBELIEVERS' MISERY

Successful indeed are the believers

Here, ALLĀH praises and commends HIS believing slaves, highlighting their success and bliss, and the means (mentioned in Qur'an 23: 2-9) by which they attain that. This implicitly urges us to acquire the same characteristics and encourages us to do so. So, the individual should take stock of himself and others, measuring against these standards; thus he will know what he and others have of faith, and the level and extent of that faith.

BEAUTIFUL NAMES OF ALLĀH
➖➖➖
EPISODE 7️⃣ - AL-AHAD (ٱلْأَحَد) - THE ONLY ONE
➖➖➖

In today's world, we are constantly bombarded with information and entertainment. Our phones accompany us everywhere, connecting us to the internet from countless locations. Messages flood in from advertisements and a never-ending news cycle. These distractions can steal away our time, hinder our focus, and prevent us from reaching our full potential, both in worldly and Islamic pursuits.

Now, more than ever, humanity needs to step back from the clamor and turn towards the essence of it all: recognizing Allāh, the One and Only. The fact that the name "Al-Ahad" appears only once in the Qur'ān might lead some to underestimate its significance compared to other names of Allāh (ﷻ). However, when we consider the Surah where this name is found, described by the Prophet as a third of the Qur'ān, we realize the profound importance of this majestic name.

So, who is Allāh? He is the One, unique in His attributes, decisions, and sovereignty. He alone deserves our unconditional fear, love, reliance, and hope. He is the sole source of worship and submission. Before anything existed, Allāh (ﷻ) was, and when everything else fades, He will remain, the One and Only.

Even amidst the distractions of modern life, reminders of Allāh's Oneness surround us. From the waves of the ocean to the intricate patterns in nature, all point to a wise and powerful Creator. Consider the spirals that appear in particles, shells, whirlpools, and galaxies—a repeating pattern, a design by the same Creator, whose name is Al-Ahad.

Think about the incredible resemblance between brain neurons and the cosmic web of galaxies. This parallel reveals a striking similarity in design, showing once again the handiwork of the One Creator. The same pattern emerges in fractals, found in everything from tree limbs to the human heart. These repeating patterns emphasize the singular design of Allāh (ﷻ).

The Oneness of Allāh has never been and will never be more profoundly expressed than the statement of Kalimah, which translates to _"no one has the right to be worshipped but Allāh"._ This statement is a source of supreme power in the face of life's challenges, this was the power surge which allowed Bilal to defy the wish of his pagan masters, as he laid barebacked on the scorching hot sand of the Arabian Desert with heavy rocks lowered onto his fatigued and battered body to torture him, and despite it he found the energy to utter in defiance "Ahad Ahad" (He is the only one He is the only one).

Sincerity, or "Ikhlas," is the key to purifying our deeds. Just as milk remains pure despite its surroundings, our actions should be offered with utmost sincerity to Allāh, who is Al-Ahad. Seek the acceptance of the One, and witness the blossoming of true sincerity in your life.

Turn your focus away from seeking validation from people, for they are just as human and fallible as yourself. Instead, redirect your longing towards Allāh, the Eternal Refuge. Unlock the shackles of worldly dependencies and allow true serenity to take root.

May Allāh (ﷻ) guide us to understand His religion

UPHOLDING INTEGRITY IN JOBS

'Adi bin 'Umairah (May ALLĀH be pleased with him) reported:

The Messenger OF ALLĀH ﷺ said, "Whosoever among you is appointed by us to a position and he conceals from us even a needle or less, it will amount to misappropriation and he will be called upon to restore it on the Day of Resurrection".

('Adi bin 'Umairah added:) A black man from the Ansar stood up - I can see him still - and said: "O Messenger of ALLĀH, take back from me your assignment.''

He (the Prophet ﷺ) said, "What has happened to you?''

The man replied: "I have heard you saying such and such.''

He ﷺ said, "I say that even now: Whosoever from you is appointed by us to a position, he should render an account of everything, big or small, and whatever he is given therefrom, he should take and he should desist from taking what is unlawful". [Muslim].

[Riyadhus-Saliheen: Book 1, Chapter 26, Hadith 215]

COMMENTARY:
Here, functionaries of government are warned to perform their duties with co-operation and integrity. If they neglect their duties or take undue advantage of their official position, they will be held guilty by ALLĀH for dereliction of their duties and misuse of power. It also tells us that it is the duty of the superior officers to keep a strict watch on their subordinates and not to let them indulge in bribery and abuse; otherwise, their negligence or slackness or overlooking or shirking from their duty in this behalf will also be treated as crime. It is not difficult to imagine the fate of such officers who conspire in the loot and plunder as is the case in our society today.

PROHIBITING UNLAWFULLY EARNED WEALTH

ALLĀH says;

O believers! Do not consume one another’s wealth illegally,

ALLĀH forbids HIS believing slaves to consume one another’s wealth unlawfully. This includes taking it by force, stealing, taking it by means of gambling, or by other evil means. Indeed it may also include consuming one’s own wealth in vanity and extravagance, because that is also unlawful and is not right.

But rather trade by mutual consent.

When ALLĀH forbids consuming it unlawfully, HE permits them to consume it by means of trade and other ways of earning that are free of anything objectionable and that fulfil the conditions of mutual consent and so on.

HOW CAN YOU LIVE BY THE NAME AL-MĀLIK

1⃣ Reflect on the Day of Recompense during prayers, especially when saying "Māliki Yawmid-Dīn," considering your deeds for that day in anticipation of standing before AL-MĀLIK.

The Day all will appear ˹before ALLĀH˺. Nothing about them will be hidden from HIM. ˹HE will ask,˺ "Who does all authority belong to this Day? To ALLĀH —the One, the Supreme! Today every soul will be rewarded for what it has done. No injustice Today!"

{Ghāfir: Verse 16-17}

2⃣ Be responsible in AL-MĀLIK's kingdom by worshiping HIM alone and being agents of positive change on Earth as HE informed,

And [mention, O Muḥammad], when your Lord said to the angels, Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority.

{al-Baqarah: 30}

Let there be a group among you who call ˹others˺ to goodness, encourage what is good, and forbid what is evil—it is they who will be successful.

{Āli-Imrān: 104}

Understand HIS expectations through studying the Quran and sunnah, ask HIM for beneficial knowledge, and strive to act on your knowledge.

3⃣ Be a just leader; avoid misusing your authority. Treat spouse, children, workers, servants, and even animals with fairness. Remember, AL-MALIK will question your leadership choices.

Abu Mas‘ūd al-Badri said: I was whipping a slave boy of mine when I heard a voice behind me saying: "Bear in mind, O Abu Mas‘ūd!" I did not recognize the voice out of anger. When he came near me, I found that it was the Prophet ﷺ who was saying: "Bear in mind, O Abu Mas‘ūd, that ALLĀH has more power over you than you have over this boy." [Muslim]

The Messenger of ALLĀH ﷺ also said:
"No servant is given authority by ALLĀH and he does not fulfill its duties sincerely but that he will never smell the fragrance of Paradise."

In another narration, the Prophet ﷺ said, "ALLĀH will forbid him from entering Paradise."

{al-Bukhari 6731, Muslim 142}

4⃣ Ask AL-MĀLIK. Use this beautiful Quranic dua taught by the Prophet ﷺ to supplicate to AL-MĀLIK:

Anas ibn Malik (May ALLĀH be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of ALLĀH ﷺ said: "Shall I not teach you a prayer which, if you supplicated by it, ALLĀH would discharge your debt from you even if it were like the size of a mountain?

Quli allahumma malika almulkitu/tee almulka man tashao watanziAAu almulka mimman tashaowatuAAizzu man tashao watuthillu man tashaobiyadika alkhayru innaka AAala kulli shay-in qadeer

Say, O ALLĀH, Owner of Sovereignty, YOU give sovereignty to whom YOU will and YOU take sovereignty away from whom YOU will. YOU honor whom YOU will and YOU humble whom YOU will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, YOU are over all things competent.

Rahmanu al-dunya wa al-akhirati tu'ti-humā man tashā'u wa tamna'u minhumā man tashā'u. Irhamnī raḥmatan tughnīnī bihā 'an raḥmati man siwāka.

The Most Merciful of the world and the Hereafter, YOU give from them both to whomever YOU will and withhold from them both to whomever YOU will. Have mercy upon me with such mercy that will free me from anyone else besides YOU.

DESERT THOSE TAKE THEIR RELIGION AS PLAY, BUT ADMONISH WITH THE QUR'AN

ALLĀH said,

And leave alone those who take their religion as play and amusement, and are deceived by the life of this world.

What is required of people is sincere devotion to ALLĀH, by worshipping HIM alone, with no partner or associate, and doing their best to earn HIS love and pleasure. That includes turning with all one’s heart to ALLĀH and focusing on HIM. All one’s efforts should be beneficial, serious and not frivolous, sincerely for the sake of ALLĀH, and not for the purpose of showing off. This is true devotion that is deserving of the name.

As for those who claim to be following the truth and to be people of devotion and piety, whilst treating their religion as a game, whereby their hearts are distracted from loving and knowing ALLĀH, and they turn their attention to that which will harm them and waste their time in the pursuit of falsehood, that is because any effort and striving that is not for the sake of ALLĀH is mere play. ALLĀH has instructed us to shun and caution such a person, and not to be deceived by him. His situation should be examined and people should be warned against his actions, and they should not be deceived by him or distracted by his failure to do that which brings one closer to ALLĀH.

But remind with this ˹Quran˺,

That is, remind with the Qur’an, mentioning that which will benefit people, enjoining and explaining, and presenting it in an attractive manner by referring to its beauty. And mention that which is harmful to people and warn them against doing it, describing various types and explaining what is bad about it, which will prompt people to refrain from it.

RIGHTEOUS DEEDS AND THEIR REWARD

ALLĀH says:

Whoever does goods deeds - whether male or female, and is a believer; WE will surely cause them to live a good life, and WE will certainly reward them according to the best of their deeds.

This is a promise from ALLĀH to those Children of Adam, male or female, who do righteous deeds - deeds in accordance with the Book of ALLĀH and the Sunnah of HIS Prophet, with a heart that believes in ALLĀH and HIS Messenger, while believing that these deeds are commanded and enjoined by ALLĀH.

ALLĀH promises that HE will give them a good life in this world and that HE will reward them according to the best of their deeds in the Hereafter.

The good life includes feeling tranquility in all aspects of life.

AlBaseerah

If you still have sins by the time you pass away, don't worry there are another three opportunities within your grave - the funeral prayer that is performed over you, the good deeds that you have left behind that continue to benefit you in the grave, and the traumas that many people will experience in the grave.

If however, the day of judgement begins and you're still carrying sins and the grave didn't erase them, then don't worry; there are other three - the horrors that people experience on the Day of Reckoning will erase sins, as will standing on the plane of the resurrection for 50,000 years, the intercession of the intercessors.

And the last way, it is the greatest and most encompassing of them all and the most hopeful, it is through the mercy of Allāh.

Is this not a Lord worthy of being adored and loved? Allāh (ﷻ) said in hadith qudsi : "O son of Adam, as long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall continue to forgive you for what you have done and I will not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky, then you were to ask of forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you and I would not mind. O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the Earth but having not associated partners with Me, I would bring you forgiveness as much as it."

(Tirmidhi 34 )

Think about who Allāh (ﷻ) is, then think about who you are. Which of the two is in need of the other? Which of the two depends entirely on the other? Which of the two cannot function for a split second without the other? The answer doesn't need spelling out. Yet look at the manner in which He (ﷻ) calls you back, why does He do this? because:

یُرِیدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن یُخَفِّفَ عَنكُمۡۚ
Allāh wants to lighten your load

(An-Nisā' 4: 28)

A man has several types of luggage during his life. job, disease, death, dependency, stress, and so forth. But there is no luggage that is more difficult on your back, more adverse to your peace of mind, and more detrimental to your afterlife than the luggage of sins. This load drove Iblis away from Allāh's mercy, drowned the Pharaoh and his people, caused the Earth to swallow up Qaroon and his treasures, and obliterated the civilizations of Ad and Thamud, as well as the inhabitants of Lut. It is this luggage that causes the loss of peace of mind, contentment, and a happy life in many, if not most, situations.

Allāh knew very well that sins would bring misery to your life, so he sent you a lifeboat to hold on to, it is the name of Allāh, Al-ghafūr, and there is a flag on this lifeboat and it reads

Whoever does evil or wrongs his soul then asks Allāh for forgiveness will find that Allāh is forgiving and merciful

[An-Nisā 4':110]

So take advantage of this by assembling all of you sins in front of your eyes and loading them all up. Bring them all together until you're eye to eye with them, then boldly declare o Allāh, I' swear by Your Might and Glory that You will forgive me for these, that You will remove them from my life, that You will veil me from their shame, that You will replace them with good deeds, that You will purify me'.

May Allāh (ﷻ) forgive our sins.

O believers! When the call to prayer is made on Friday, then proceed ˹diligently˺ to the remembrance of ALLĀH and leave off ˹your˺ business. That is best for you, if only you knew.

PROHIBITION OF TALK DURING KHUTBAH

Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet ﷺ said, "If you said to your companion: 'Be quiet and listen' on Friday while the Imām is delivering the sermon, then you would be guilty of idle talk." {al-Bukha‌ri‌ 892, Muslim 851}

Al-Nawawi said, “In this tradition is the prohibition of every kind of talking during the sermon.”

{Sharh‌ al-Nawawi‌ ‘ala‌ S‌ah‌i‌h‌ Muslim 851}

The Prophet ﷺ also said:
"Whoever performs ablution in an excellent manner, comes to Friday prayer, and listens while remaining quiet, his sins will be forgiven until the next Friday and an additional three days, but whoever fiddles with pebbles has engaged in idle action." {Muslim 857}.

Concerning "whoever fiddles with pebbles has engaged in idle action." An-Nawawi mentioned, "It means prohibition of fiddling with pebbles and the like during the Khutbah, and what is meant by idle action here is what is false, rejected and disliked."

{Sharh‌ al-Nawawi‌ ‘ala‌ S‌ah‌i‌h‌ Muslim 857}

THE PROHIBITION INCLUDES:

PRICE FOR TRUE LOVE

Questioner: Someone who loves a person for the sake of ALLĀH, must he say, “I love you for the sake of ALLĀH,” to him?

Sheikh Al-Albaani: Yes, but loving [someone] for the sake of ALLĀH has a huge price, only very few people pay it. Do you know what the price [to be paid] for loving someone for ALLĀH’s sake is? Do any of you know the price?

Someone present: The Most High said, “By Time! Indeed, mankind is in loss. Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.” [al-Asr: 3]

Sheikh Al-Albaani: Well done. That is the answer.

And an explanation of that is that if I really love you for the sake of ALLĀH I would persist in advising you, and you would do the same. Persevering in advising one another is very rare between those who claim to love each other, this love might have some sincerity in it, but it is not complete, because we try to make an allowance for the other, afraid that the other person will become angry, that he will flee … and so on.

It is in light of this that [you can see that] the cost of loving someone for the sake of ALLĀH is that each person shows sincerity towards the other by advising him, always and forever telling him to do good and preventing him from bad—he is more constant in advising him than that person’s own shadow is close—for this reason it has been authentically reported that when parting from one another, one of the habits of the Companions was that one of them would read to the other, “By Time! Indeed, mankind is in loss. Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.” [al-Asr: 3]

BEAUTIFUL NAMES OF ALLĀH
➖➖➖
EPISODE 4️⃣ - AL-JABBAR ( ألجبّار) - THE COMPELLER
➖➖➖

Al -iqraah or compulsion is one of the shared meanings of this Majestic name of Allāh, Al-Jabbar which we translate as the ever compeller.

Another one of its meanings that's not so commonly discussed is Islaah, rectification, to repair the broken. The act of repairing in Arabic is called “Jabbr (جَبْرٌ)”. That is why some people translate this Majestic name as the ever restorer, and it is one of the miraculous aspects of this name that on the one hand it has a meaning of supreme power Al-Jabbar, The ever compeller, while on the other hand it carries a sheer subtle gentle meaning Al-Jabbar meaning The ever restorer.

It is He who repairs poverty with affluence and loss with success and injury with healing and despair with hope and repairs broken hearts.
Examine yourself in the mirror. Did you pick your gender, complexion, hair type, eye colour, height, and skin texture? No, it was all predetermined for you. Then look a little deeper, do you have any control over the millions of simultaneous activities that occur in your body every second of the day? The answer to both of these questions is emphatically no, we are all under the constraint of Al-Jabbar The ever compeller. Allāh (ﷻ) said:

it is He who shapes you in the wombs however He wills

[Āl-ʿImrān 3:6]

You had no say in that, Al-Jabbar legislated Islam, decreed its final form and He didn't consult any being in the process. He commanded humanity to surrender their hearts, their bodies, their minds, their souls because He chose to do so. He prohibited us from rejecting His religion because He chose to do so.

Indeed, Allāh ordains what He intends.

[Al-Māʾidah 5:1]

Now let's stay on this line of reasoning for a moment. Why did He choose Mecca over all other cities of the world? Why were the first 10 days of dhul-hijjah chosen as the best 10 days of the year?  Why was Angel Jibril (عليه سلام) chosen for the task of delivering revelation of all angels?  Why did He choose certain people to give them the gift of Imaan but not others? The answer to all of these questions is the same.

Your Lord creates and chooses as He Wills

[Al-Qaṣaṣ 28:68]

Al-Jabbar, The Ever Restorer was the other meaning, and you have witnessed the effects of this name. Take the process of healing for cuts and bruises as an example. Healing is a complex and coordinated interaction of physical, chemical, and cellular events.  The healing process takes time, with significant strength gained in the first six weeks and about 80% repair achieved after three months. Reflecting on this, the next time you experience a bruise or a cut and witness its natural healing without intervention, let your heart prostrate in love and glorification of Al-Jabbar, The Ever Restorer. He not only heals physical wounds but also mends deeper injuries.

This is Al-Jabbar and to acknowledge Him brings about another automatic acknowledgment which is what? An acknowledgment of how feeble and helpless we actually are. So what is it that's hurting you? is it an accident that has physically broken a bone? a rumour that has damaged your reputation? a mental health condition that has broken apart your positivity? Is it a fear that has broken your resolve to keep going? Or a fraudster or a selfish business partner who has left you broke? Is it the never-ending demands of life that have shattered your peace of mind?

Remember what the Prophet (ﷺ) would say when he would sit between the two sittings of the prostrations,  "Allāh forgive me and have mercy upon me and repair my breakage and raise me and guide me and bestow upon me well being and provide for me"

(Ibn Majah :3845)

MOST PRIVILEGED, MOST MISERABLE ON JUDGEMENT DAY

Anas ibn Mālik (may ALLĀH be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ  said:

"The wealthiest of people in this world, from among the dwellers of Fire, will be brought on the Day of Judgment and dipped once in the Fire then he will be asked: O son of Adam, Have you ever witnessed any goodness? Have you ever experienced any bliss? He will say: O Lord, by ALLĀH I have not.

Then, the most miserable of people in this world, from among the dwellers of Paradise, will be dipped once in Paradise then he will be asked: O son of Adam, have you ever witnessed any misery? Have you ever experienced any hardship? He will say: No by ALLĀH, I have never witnessed any misery nor have I experienced any hardship.”

[Muslim]

EXPLANATION
:
On the Day of Judgment, the one who led the most luxurious life in this world, from among the dwellers of Fire, will be brought and immersed in Hell. Its heat, blaze and scorching fire will make him forget all the worldly pleasures that he enjoyed before. At that point, his Lord, who knows best about his state, will ask him if he has ever witnessed or experienced any goodness or bliss, and he will reply in the negative. On the other hand, the one who led the most miserable life in this world, a life of poverty and need, from among the dwellers of Paradise, will be brought and immersed once in Paradise. The inexpressible joy and pleasure that he finds therein will make him forget all the bitterness, misery, poverty and hardship that he had experienced. His Lord, who knows best about his state, will then ask him if he has ever witnessed or experienced any misery or hardship and he will reply in the negative.

ETIQUETTE OF DEALING WITH DREAMS

Summary of what to do upon having a bad dream:

1⃣ Spit to your left three times (soft, dry spitting without saliva being ejected)

The Messenger of ALLĀH ﷺ said:
"If one of you sees a dream he dislikes, let him blow on his left side three times and seek refuge in ALLĀH from Satan three times."

{Muslim, 2262}

2⃣ Seek refuge in ALLĀH from the Devil and from the evil of what you have seen three times.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“When one of you becomes frightened during sleep, then let him say:

أَعُوْذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللّٰهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ غَضَبِهِ وَعِقَابِهِ، وَشَرِّ عِبَادِهِ، وَمِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِيْنِ وَأَنْ يَحْضُرُوْنِ

I seek refuge in the Perfect Words of ALLĀH from HIS anger and HIS punishment, from the evil of HIS slaves and from the taunts of devils and from their presence.

A'oothu bikalimaatil-laahit-taammaati min ghadhabihi wa 'iqaabihi, wa sharri 'ibaadihi, wa min hamazaatish-shayaateeni wa 'an yahdhuroon.

For verily, they shall not harm him.”

{At-Tirmidhī, 3529}

He can also say:

أَعُوْذُ بِاللّٰهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطٰانِ وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَا رَأًيتُ

I seek refuge with ALLĀH from shaytan and the evil of what I dreamt of.

Auzubillāhi minash-Shaytani wa min sharri mā ra-aytu

{Ibn Uthaymīn's Explanation of Riyadhus-Saliheen: no. 843}

3⃣ Do not speak about it to anyone.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
"When one of you sees (in his dream) something else he dislikes, it is from Satan so let him seek refuge from its evil and not mention it to anyone. It will not harm him."

{al-Bukhari, 6584}

4⃣ Turn over on your other side.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“...Let him turn to the other side on which he was sleeping.”

{Muslim, 2262}

5. Get up and pray if you desire to do so.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
"If any one of you sees something that he dislikes (in a dream), let him get up and pray, and not tell people about it."

{Muslim, 2263}

Summary of what to do upon having a good dream:

1⃣ Praise ALLĀH and feel happy about it.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“When one of you sees a dream he likes, it is from ALLĀH so let him praise ALLĀH for it and speak about it.

{Bukhari, 6584}

2⃣ Talk about it, but only with those who are dear to you or with someone who can give helpful advice.

Narrated Abu Razin:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
The vision flutters over a man as long as it is not interpreted , but when it is interpreted, it settles. And I think he said: Tell it only to one who loves (i.e. friend) or one who has judgment.

{Abu Dawūd, 5020}

If the Muslim follows the advice given by the Prophet ﷺ before he goes to bed, it is hoped that no Shaytan will come anywhere near him, and if he follows this advice when he wakes up from a bad dream, the dream will not harm him.
